If you are GMing, remember...
1. To strongly consider giving out at least one free "tax feat," like Expertise and pre-errata Melee Training.
2. To use Monster Manual 3/Monster Vault/Monster Vault: Nentir Vale/Dark Sun Creature Catalog math. Avoid or manually update anything with Monster Manual 1 or 2 math.
3. That skill challenges have always been scene-framing devices for the GM, that players should never be overtly told that they are in a skill challenge, and that the Rules Compendium has the most up-to-date skill DCs and skill challenge rules.
If you would like assistance with character optimization, remember to tell us what the what the rest of the players are playing, what books are allowed, your starting level, the highest level you expect to reach, what free feats you receive, if anything is banned, whether or not themes are allowed, your starting equipment, and how much you dislike item-dependent builds.
If you wish to talk about settings, 4e's settings are Points of Light (the planes and the natural world's past empires are heavily detailed in various sourcebooks and magazines), 4e Forgotten Realms, 4e Eberron, 4e Dark Sun, and whatever setting you would like to bring into 4e.

Looking to get into 40k, which army should I start with?
I was looking at chaos demons, and their aesthetic/variety/flexibility on the battlefield look pretty good, but I'm open to anything (I'm an adult though, so no grey knights).

Decided to go back and tinker a bit with an archetype I worked on a while ago.
The Futurist: A construct and firearm-based summoner archetype that trades out the Eidolon in favor of buffing Summon Monster (When you only have one instance of it going, to prevent it getting too silly numbers-wise).

I mean. Overall, warlocks in 3.5 weren't really that, and neither is the avowed. "Someone else made a deal, and you reaped the benefits" is one of the explicit possibilities within both the warlock and the avowed. The books also listed a bunch of other possibilities, ranging from gifts, study, radiation poisoning...
In addition, for the avowed, for many pacts, it's "someone poked you with a seed of power, and then your power grew from that starting point." Less 'sold my soul for talent' and more 'nen baptism', in a sense (if you read/watch Hunter x Hunter).
When Avowed 2's SkyMarket appendix comes out (likely once we get the full beta of it out; currently finishing up the stuff for A2's alpha), it's going to include examples of alternate fluffs and backgrounds for avowed. An in-depth handbook to refluffing the class, with examples on all points of the snowflake scale.
Perhaps that'll be up your alley.

How do you prefer gods to be depicted? Since really looking into how the Hive work I have to say I like the set up where the "Gods" arn't distant yet still powerful enough to fuck with reality without being omnipotent/omniscient. It also kind of reminds me of the Grand Marshal of the Necromongers as he was sort of a god figure even though he pretty much prevented anyone else from obtaining the sort of powers he had.

If you rwant to get really technical about it, the Hive's "gods" aren't actually gods at all. They're just an older species thats better at space magic than the Hive themselves.
In the end they're both serving the "Darkness" and borrowing it's power. One of the grimoire cards even says the magic the Hive use isn't their own, that all the signs and rituals and such are basically just "appeals" to some semi-sentient force that recognizes these things. (As a personal aside, I think it's a pretty cool explanation for magic and those elements of it.). Unfortunately, knowing Bungo and their mediocre story-telling, we'll never find out what the Darkness actually is, or the extent of it's power or omniscience, although I'm very tempted to believe it's similar to the Dark Side of the Force from Star Wars right now.

Anyway, the Vex "god" in the Black Garden is preferable to me for the Destiny options. Something that is obviously holding some power (it was able to halt the Traveller's healing) but is aloof in the sense that other than an act of self defense it doesn't seem to notice most things, and for the Vex to have considered it from enough alternate timelines to utterly fail at understanding it to the degree the only logical option was worship...

You do know that people still trade gold IRL, right? And gold coins have enormous value in part due to their rarity, despite not being accepted as legal tender. Even if the crown doesn't want to trade paper for gold, someone will.

Precious metals are called that for a reason. It's not like you can just declare that intrinsic value stops existing. You have this backwards. Gold can never be "worthless", because it's both USEFUL and SCARCE.
