What is your favorite power source for a villain/BBEG? Study, inner strength, sheer amounts of fucks not given?

Strahd is nearly always referred to as the Devil, what would Asmodeus think of that shitstain?

Like all dystopias I like: highly functional.

People in Dystopias easily get into the mindset of just following the law and order without much noise. Thus, the system keeps functional.

But of course, the players and PC:s realize how horrible the system is, in the end.

I could see a kingdom run by some tyrannical human figure, maybe a cleric, that enforces strict rules over society. There could be statues of him all over the city, big brother like watching everyone.

You would have to look at the D&D patheon to see if there are any gods that would work. You could also just make one yourself to fit the world

Something that could wipe an entire party would give much more then 10xp. I actually prefer monsters giving lower xp because then you are less likely to have psychotic murder-hobos that need to kill everything they encounter.

Mmmmmmmaybe Warhammer/40k/AoS, if only by the virtue of GW's IP having viable media outside tabletop gaymin.

Stuff like Planescape and Baldur's Gate probably drew a number of people to D&D proper, but it feels weird calling fans of those games part of the D&D fanbase. For some reason, though, I have no issue considering fans of Dawn of War or Space Marine part of the WH fanbase even if they've never touched a mini or wrote on a character sheet. Maybe it's because "D&D" is a system independent of a specific setting while the various Warhammers draw people in to a setting; you can like Sigil or Waterdeep or whatever without liking D&D, but if you like Space Marine's setting, you like WH40k.

For rules, get CW, but I recommend both books just to read the datafiles.

A big pro of the system is you can whip up any kind of super you want and can generally do what you want.

A big con is the GM needs the balls to say what will and won't fly. Your handgun isn't going to hurt Galactus.

There's also the matter of the rules for character creation not being too concrete. They walk you through what is the bare minimum, but there's no cap. There's no "You have 15 points to allocate" stuff. It's limited by your imagination and what the GM will let you do. It works out better than you think since everyone only gets one turn a round no matter what.

Another pro is that there are loads of characters statted and, even if you don't use the Marvel setting, you can just use those for your own NPCs. Group combat is also pretty fun since it's a pile of dice vs a PC.

Another con is that there's a lot of learning by example. Those datafiles I mentioned are really the only place I learned how to stat out the characters I wanted. Everything's relative to those.

CAPTAIN MIDNIGHT! was a character I made for a supers game. The idea was to do a comedic 60's setting, with some mild deconstructive elements.
Captain Midnight was a true-blue patriot, billionaire genius philanthropist and loving father. He was actually one of the first "Super Heroes" in the setting in that he was one of the only people to put on a costume after gaining his powers and decide to use them to protect the innocent and catch evil-doers. He organized the players into the first Super-Team, and insisted that they all have codenames and outfits like him, much to the chagrin of some members of the team.
His powers were ironically darkness-themed, but he was himself incredibly optimistic and naive. My long term plan with him was that he was going to eventually be worn down by the increasing brutality and grimness of the world, until finally he became an out-and-out villain in an attempt to unite all the heroes against him. He was going to be a sort of more pathetic version of Ozymandias from Watchmen, based partly on Captain Metropolis.

Was going to be his sort of epitaph once he was finally revealed.
The group disbanded after only two or three sessions. The games themselves were very fun, and frankly I'm secretly glad we never got to his heel turn.

It got worse. It turns out at some point, I (somehow) broke the flow of time in Nirn. So that's why Tiber Septim, The Underking, the King of Worms, and the Oblivion Crisis were all fighting each other simultaneously in the rest of Tamriel. It took more than ten times my reserves in Order Magic and various other temporal tricks to put things back together. I consulted the Aedra via An Audience My Lord. They were not happy with me, and only helped me reluctantly to avoid the destruction of Nirn. Akatosh is very good at Time shit.

I rarely use them, because most players will try to kill them and loot their lairs.
And I, secretly being a dragon otherkin, don't want dragons to die in my games.
My players don't know about it, and I've got plenty of other enemies to use in my games.

A Chaotic Good character will possibly have a moral dilemma when having to choose between what they want and saving a life (it will depend on how much they care about the life that's in need of saving).

The Chaotic Neutral character will not have that issue.

Neutral doesn't care
Evil cares only for himself
