Wow, the flavor text on this is awesome. Anyone else have anything neat?
Fist for GOAT Giant
She's probably my worst commander but best deck
>What in particular sucked about it?
WotC built her precon as a trap: never go Full Giant-Tribal. She functions a lot better if you treat everything after her Keywords as flavor text and deck her out with equipmemt

As a house rule, we ruled that playing your commander from the commander zone shares the same effect as playing it from your hand.
Someone runs the Green One for a stompy deck.
Discuss tyranids.
What should be done to fix their crippled dex?
Should they get new units, and if so, what sort of units?
anon in the other thread brought up something interesting, that almost every other faction gets some special rule that allows them to disregard or alter a key part of the game mechanics, whilst nids special rules actively punish them. I'd start with removing that. Perhaps incorporate some sort of 'without number' rule into a decurion style formation? Lots of simple tweaks are available, such as fixing Warriors and ensuring Tervigons don't nuke half your bugs when they die, but to actually make them decent and get rid of the underlying problems they've got to have some special 'thing' that doesn't hurt them.
All the models that are currently out should be put in the codex. (neurothrope, tyranocite, etc.)
We should be able to have 2+ armor and have stuff to deal with it effectively. Lots of things need to have their points values looked at. And increased toughness would be great all around.

What are the best ways to write Amazons in various settings and not just fantasy but shit like scfi or modern settings.

Combat robots/cyborgs owned by the elite, specifically made to look like amazons because hey might as well show them off to all your rich friends
>>50955056
Nunes is quite possibly the most modern of amazon you can get not only is she a lesbo but what she did to that smug cunt is something quite amazing for women's UFC. The fucking foot work and fake outs she did on Rousy was quite the watch.
Infinity did it alright if you want the extreme aspect of it.
Armed feminazis that can and will fuck your ass up. I liked that whole GURL POWER thing they had going on.
Other than that matriarchal societies where women say take more charge in a modern society is kinda of a cool prospect. Where women are taking more of a leading role you know?
What is the culture surrounding /tg/ related stuff in the country that you live in?

Traditional gaming has taken the place of parlor games for the socially apt. As with spiritualism in the early 20th century, it's an acceptable deviation from the social norm - a "dangerous" but temporary excursion into normally unappealing behavior.
Like spiritualism, its status as fad extends only to the boundary of irony - so long as you don't really like traditional games or play then frequently, the momentary indulgence is harmless. This status quo is exacerbated by media which enshrines nerds as noble outcasts and their hobbies as secret wells of wisdom.

I'm in the process of world building up a CP world for my first game as DM ever.
Shadowrun isn't my cup of tea with all the elves and magic and shit.
Is 2020 the best rule set? I heard some people say v2 was better (I think 2020 is v3?)
Why are there barbie dolls in this rulebook?
Any generic advice for a first time dm? I'm a monstrous cyberpunk fan so I'm feeling pretty juiced up and eager to write a whole load of shit up for my little world.
>>50936732
1. Good luck!
2. Right on, SR is too magicky.
3. Yes, CP2020 is best. V3 is mostly awful, don't use it.
4. Because Maximum Mike couldn't afford art and his wife was really into dolls/action figures at the time. We don't talk about it.
5. Nerf Skinweave, lower most armor values by about 4.
Ride the cyber-waves, choombatta.

Thanks friendo. Especially the balance changes. I have 0 Fucking clue how this game is run.
Rules ways it's basically just dnd but with a d10, broadly speaking, right?
>>50937440
>basically just dnd but with a d10
Noooot really, no. Because it's Skill + Attribute + d10 attributes are much more important than in other games, REF especially.
Wounds and shock are quite a bit different from HP.
Don't use the Netrunning rules as written, they're too convoluted and will bore everyone who isn't a netrunner.
Re-read the firefight rules, especially how armor layering and armor-piercing ammo works. It makes a huge difference.
Head shots can kill even the hardiest PCs. Auto-fire is super-deadly.
Basically if your PCs aren't doding or finding cover they're gonna be road meat very fast.

>Thread Question:
What are the Dark Arts of your world? What separates them from the usual sort of magic? Why would anyone use such a power? Who is it's greatest practitioner? Is there any coming back for someone who uses the Dark Arts but later repents, or is Death the only just end?
>>50885284
That is what I try to reach. City that can influence others nearby through trade and financing their wars.
Thought the city cannot be immortal, but has fallen several times during the history. But it has to be either very powerful empire that can hold the trade there or the capturing of the city is not beneficial enough for invading party.
>>50893503
>What are the Dark Arts of your world?
Because all magic is based on life energy and using the excess energy without taking some of your own or others. Using your own life energy will shorten your lives drastically so it is not advisable to do so. Blood magic especially is centered on using someones life energy as the fuel source for magic, be it a sheep or a person. This is considered barbaric by some of the more "civilized" nations, but is very common form of doing mass rituals or trying to foresee future in many different cultures. Human sacrifices are usually seen as very barbaric and they are rarely done by magis. Of course this happens and if it happens in those "civilized" nations where it is illegal there will be legal consequences which usually lead to death of the magi involved in it.
Necromancy is another Dark Art which is not really liked. Resurrecting people into zombies/thralls is seen as very bad thing. Basically going into gods territory, but if the magi doing it is very good and highly regarded. He can technically resurrect person properly back into living. This thought is much harder than basic necromancy.
>Why would anyone use such a power?
https://youtu.be/-1TTN-Ev2KI?t=55s
Well till point where you run out of people to sacrifice.
>Is there any coming back for someone who uses the Dark Arts but later repents, or is Death the only just end?
There might be if the person is seen to be very talented magi and if the persons crimes were small. But most of the times the person is judged and executed.

I'm afraid i can't update just yet, but i will be back later this morning. In the meantime the game is ongoing. For those of you who are unaware here are the rules.
If you wish to participate, when you bump the thread rather than just bumping it post a request for a piece of writefaggotry, along with your best guess at who i used as inspiration for the Medicae's character.
First anon to guess correctly wins. For right now, unless someone else gets closer, the anon who requested a story about a Hospitaler and a Krieger is winning.
To keep things interesting i'm going to start giving out hints. Here is your first clue. The Medicae was initially based off of a character from a TV series.
Hope you are all having a good day.

I'm sorry if i have offended you. I did not mean to be rude, and it was not my intent to seek attention. If i have violated board culture i apologize. I was informed that the previous thread was about to hit auto sage, and in the first thread when that happened i had had numerous anons telling me to start up the next thread before the thread auto saged and died. Since i wasn't sure when the second thread would autosage, and i didn't want it to die before i had the chance to start the next one, i did this when i had the chance. I am sorry for the error, i was just trying not to inconvenience the other anons who had been following along, i didn't mean to bother anyone.

1991 – The Supreme Soviet of the Soviet Union meets and formally dissolves the Soviet Union.
It is 240 years since the Battle of Trenton, a small but pivotal battle of the American Revolutionary War. After General George Washington's crossing of the Delaware River north of Trenton the previous night, Washington led the main body of the Continental Army against Hessian soldiers garrisoned at Trenton. After a brief battle, nearly the entire Hessian force was captured, with negligible losses to the Americans. The battle significantly boosted the Continental Army's flagging morale, and inspired re-enlistments.
The Continental Army had previously suffered several defeats in New York and had been forced to retreat through New Jersey to Pennsylvania. Morale in the army was low; to end the year on a positive note, George Washington—Commander-in-Chief of the Continental Army—devised a plan to cross the Delaware River on the night of December 25–26 and surround the Hessian garrison.
Because the river was icy and the weather severe, the crossing proved dangerous. Two detachments were unable to cross the river, leaving Washington with only 2,400 men under his command in the assault. The army marched 9 miles (14 km) south to Trenton. The Hessians had lowered their guard, thinking they were safe from the American army, and had no long-distance outposts or patrols. Washington's forces caught them off guard and, after a short but fierce resistance, most of the Hessians surrendered. Almost two thirds of the 1,500-man garrison was captured, and only a few troops escaped across Assunpink Creek.
Despite the battle's small numbers, the American victory inspired rebels in the colonies. With the success of the revolution in doubt a week earlier, the army had seemed on the verge of collapse. The dramatic victory inspired soldiers to serve longer and attracted new recruits to the ranks.

Where does the pushy GW staff member stereotype come from? I've only recently started playing and I've yet to encounter it, I'm almost disappointed.. give me some stories
>>50971006
Part exagerrated
part due to GW training
and ofc it does depend on the personality
>They are given an incentive to sell as many possible models.
>They are given no detailed or comprehensive sales training
>They are given no direct oversight on how to handle customers and run a business
>They are young men, typically a first job and have no other way other than to push them on customers
These are generalizations but would make up the majority of GW staff.
Obligatory
ORIGINALITY is greatly OVERRATED on /tg/. The more unique things in your setting, the more overhead from explaining things to players before they can just get to the playing-a-story bit, as opposed to a setting that works mostly as they would expect.
Fantasy works because it plays off all the myths, fairytales, archetypes and popular culture that make up our common cultural heritage. It's over the top, but in a way that everyone is familiar with.
You shouldn't attempt to pull off the most unique and original setting and blow your players' minds with your cleverness - except maybe if you've all played P&P games for 20+ years and have seen and done it all already.
>The concept of originality became an ideal in Western culture starting from the 18th century. In contrast, at the time of Shakespeare it was common to appreciate more the similarity with an admired classical work, and Shakespeare himself avoided "unnecessary invention".
>>50969852
>ORIGINALITY is greatly OVERRATED on /tg/
>/tg/ is one person
Every sensible person knows you have to balance "new" with relatable. Both DMs and players don't appreciate the same old thing over and over. It's about the setting/whatever FEELING fresh. It's OK to be inspired by something you like, but simply copying it note-for-note is shitty.
>You shouldn't attempt to pull off the most unique and original setting and blow your players' minds with your cleverness
I haven't really seen anyone on /tg/ trying to do this. Most I see is DMs or players looking for opinions or ideas. I don't know why you're attacking a strawman as opposed to bringing up the idea of people trying to force "muh originality" in a more neutral way.
>>50969852
>The more unique things in your setting, the more overhead from explaining things to players before they can just get to the playing-a-story bit, as opposed to a setting that works mostly as they would expect.
If you show-don't-tell this isn't necessarily so. Building a city in the tusks of giant elephants doesn't necessitate telling the story of how those elephants were killed or where they lived or any of that shit. And when the players come back to a razed city in a few years do I need to tell them what happened? Not really. They can speculate.
And when I do leave changes "in-text" as it were, it doesn't usually cost much effort either. Like how hard is it really to have thieves call the well-populated gallows in the center of your town the "nevergreen tree?" And how fucking stupid are your players that they would need an explanation for that shit.
People talk about originality like you've got to invent a new goddamn color, but that's a strawman version of what anyone is asking for. People want novelty. There are a lot of ways to hit that target. A lot of them are easy.
>>50970649
>City inside giant elephant tusks
I know this is a thread about originality but I'm stealing that shit
What's the best system to use if you want to run a "you wake up from cryogenic sleep in a seemingly abandoned space station" horror setting?
Not a setting I've heard of, but GURPS would handle pretty well. It's granular, has lots of crunchy and extensive rules for stuff like injuries and improvised weapons and semi-hard space travel.
>>50969657
Traveller I guess.
Although the best horror games I've heard of had no actual system, just relied on an excellent GM and lots of passing notes
