The party is about to fight an Encounter stylized after a Dungeon master and I'm wondering if /tg/ has any for creative attacks. I've already got morphing the environment to previous points in the Campaign and creating illusions of other characters for one-shot attacks. But other than that I'm stumped

Include metamechanics.

As in: "Hand over your character sheet.", make some changes(Make sure it's reversible). Don't mention what you changed. If they catch it great, if they don't, SHOVE IT IN THEIR FACES AND TELL THEM THEY CAN'T DO IT LIKE THAT DM.

Have an attack where the antagonist literally scolds the PCs for not doing what they're SUPPOSED to be doing.

Put them on a railroad.

Have its ultimate attack be rocks falling, and everyone dying.

Have its weakness lie in the fact that IT IS VERY SLOPPY WITH KEEPING ITS NOTES FOR THIS ENCOUNTER SECRET.

As a noob to 40k, I have a few questions but my most pressing is can I nominate another unit as a HQ choice in an unbound army? I have two lists made up but which one I use is dependant on this

Tell the PCs all their powers [system?] have to be based on the legend of the hero they pick, NOT a straight rip-off of a Fate hero [for instance if they choose Gilgamesh it can't be 'that' Gilgamesh, they have to OC that shit], and also should have some degree of Jojo-inspired weirdness.

Yes, part of the appeal to JoJo is the weird and highly circumstantial powers. I was just wondering if it would be better to do Fate/Stay with JoJo stands, or JoJo with Fate/Stay heroic spirits

I like your idea though. Characters stands are BASED off of legendary heroes, like a template. But their powers are half based on the 'source material', and half based on the user itself. Like they're drawing on the platonic ideal of King Arthur, or the archetype, rather than summoning King Arthur himself. Come to think of it this is a far better explanation for King Arthur being a little girl than Fate/Stay got... But I digress

How would you run a Danganronpa game? I've been thinking a couple ways - you could either do basically a fan scenario with the players having to solve mysteries you set up, but it might also be cool to have it being something ongoing you do with a lot of people, where they say more or less what they're doing for a day in maybe even a kind of play-by-post style, and they can try to murder eachother kinda like Mafia/Werewolf.
What would the stat sheet look like anyway? I reckon it could be as simple as a kind of Everyone Is John sheet where you just list your skills and there is a set DC based solely on if it is your talent or not.

Everyone except one player has to go out of the room all the time and even when only one character does something that in retrospect might intercept with someone elses action route it all collapses.

Funny you should ask, I've been roped into a upcoming game based on this series. I generally shy away from weebstuff and I know next to nothing about the games (although the rest of the group have been explaining a few things) but it's the first opportunity for me to not be the forever-GM in several years so fuck it, I don't give a shit anymore. At least I'll get make fun of anime clichés, hopefully.

GM told everyone to make two characters so if one dies they won't immediately be dropped from the game and still be able to participate. I ended up making a heavy metal guitarist chick and a british surgeon. Currently waiting for the rest of the group to finish their characters (only waiting on two people IIRC).

One thing that does concern me is that the GM did refer to the latter as a "beacon of hope". Now I mentioned earlier that I don't know much about this series but between the rest of the people in the group I've figured that the whole hope/despair theme seems to be a pretty strong gimmick. On a scale from 1 to panic, how worried should I be?

What is the difference between a mini for a devastator marine and a tactical marine? Aside the squad number.
As far as I see I can basically can take 5 tactical marines with bolters and claim it to be a devastator squad to get a Demi-Company or Gladius Strike Force. Or I can take a devastator with a lazcannon and use it in a 10 men tactical marine squad as heavy weapons guy.

Or am I overlooking something? That has a lot of impact on how I assemble my minis, because it could give me a lot of leeway to determine point costs.

there's unit markings and (depending on the chapter) variant colour schemes, but mechanically speaking you're not overlooking anything

Sure you could take devs with bolters, but seems like a waste. Look at top tier netlists, tip: they have devastators with 2 grav cannons in a rhino.

Lorewise, in many chapters you have to go through several roles before you become a tactical marine: scout, devastator, assault marine, etc. Tactical marines are the experienced dudes who have already been devastators and so on.

The only real difference between Tacticals and Devastators is the Devastators can take more heavy weapons options and don't count as Troop choices, IIRC the sergeant also gets some specific wargear that normal Tacticals can't take.

So yes, you can just make a Dev squad out of 5 Tacticals.

How would you guys write a tabletop miniature game about drifting?

then you'd throw the PCs into a car chase/race scenario and every time they corner make them roll depending on those stats. The various results would then determine how successful the drift was and you'd keep going like that until there was a clear victor in the chase/race

The same way you write any other game, just replace the "dungeons" with "racetracks", make every "battle" or "enemy" a "curve", and rename all the stats from things like "strength" and "agility" to "horsepower" and "acceleration".

Certain throwing weapons (ie - splash grenades) have a coating that make them bounce on walls. Sticky coating has been more popular so far.

I personally think that you should make EX a thing like where you could possibility of createing a functioning prototype to a Magic, with generations of research and such, but that you have yet to attain it. But If I had to chose I'd go with the silliness of the first option with the statement "Your magecraft is almost on the level of Magic" taken to A+++. So, something like the first with a bit of the third options, Valeria.

Something like Utilitarianism would probably say this is okay, but give me the views of "normal" people.

In a setting where hell is real, is it morally wrong to eat/absorb/burn for fuel/whatever souls that would have otherwise gone to hell, provided that the suffering you cause them to experience is less than what they would have otherwise experienced in hell?

I feel like 5e plays really well and smoothly at the table, and have had no good experiences with gurps. Just piles of recursive tables, and taking five minutes to resolve fairly simple actions, attacks and checks.

I feel that 5e dnd is simple and elegant, and easy to teach to newer players, and I wanted a sci-fi rpg like that.

My friends and I are starting a D&D campaign and most of us are brand new except the DM who's played for a long time. For the sake of diversity I'd like to play a human ranger. The DM pretty much has to help everyone with their characters sheets so I thought to make his life a little easier I'd come here for help. I honestly haven't the slightest idea as what I should be doing in terms of stats, abilitys, archtype and whatever else. I'm not exactly sure how well balanced 5e is but I have no problem just doing the most blatantly over powered, well anything, especially because it's my first campaign. Thanks.

Thinking of swapping my 40k army from Imperial Guard to Tau, but I already brought some models. So far I only have 10 guardsmen and a command squad. Should swap to Tau, and change the Guards to Gue'vesa? Or should I just stick to Imperials
