Settlement Event should have "Nominate a female survivor" at the top of it, and impregnated should have the same wording/effect as Marrow Hunger. Right now you are resolving effects with no target.

Don't have any specializations due to not reading that rule until too late. Have 2 rawhide sets, 1 white lion set, katars, kings spear, scrap sword, and counterweight axe plus a few assorted items like monster grease.

If you've got a Cats Eye Circlet, Dash and Surge, and some decently insane survivors (7+) then you've got a good shot right now. Otherwise, go get yourself a Cats Eye Circlet, that shit is golden. A Zanbato wouldn't hurt you either.

Level 1 Phoenix isn't too awful if you're smart with your survival actions. Level 2 Phoenix is where it starts to get hairy.

The Phoenix rewards bringing highly insane survivors due to fight mechanics which are [spoilers]. It's kinda the opposite of the Antelope in that sense. I wouldn't say it's mandatory, though, but it definitely helps.

As long as you've got Cats Eye Circlet, Dash, Surge, a respectable survival limit (6+), and respectable weapons and armor then you can probably hunt a Phoenix yeah. Just be smart about the Survival Actions and abuse dem flows.

Definitely go hunt that Lion until you get Ammonia, and get yourself some survival innovations. You'll need them for L2 fights as well -- there's a lot more movement in harder fights and a lot of times a survivor has to dash every turn just to be able to attack.

The core game is plenty fine to have a ridiculously good time. The only things I would say are 'necessary' beyond that would be the Gorm, because it adds some much needed variety to the start of the game, and the Gambler's Chest both because it is likely to contain almost as many figures as the core game itself but at $100 but also because the Advanced Kingdom Death: Monster rules within it sound really, really good.

Pic related -- it's one of the 27 confirmed (so far) minis in the Gambler's Chest. And it's likely to go up to 33 to 37 depending on how many of the remaining boxes contain minis. I neeeeed this mini in my life.

The level 1 White Lion gets pretty boring after you've hunted it a bunch, yes. It's a static fight that gets predictable once you know it. It's good the first campaign through as it eases you into the game, but your second time around you already know the ropes and you don't need the training wheels that it represents.

The level 2 White Lion is not boring. That piece of shit will kidnap survivors and sprint around the board running away from the others while it bats its target survivor around like a chew toy. Don't take that guy lightly.

Oh! There is actually such a detail. Problem is, it's not immediately noticeable on the unpainted mini and most people paint their lion mini before playing the game so haven't yet learned the detail to paint it right.

You might be bad at this game. Granted, with the limited amount of resources you have the prologue can always wipe you on a bad day and the L1 Lion hunt can range from retardedly easy to murderously hard. Like how many times did you fail against the Paw and suck up megadamage? Did Enraged come out on both lions? Did you not know about Ground Fighting and get it without Bone Darts to disarm?

You could have gotten a 'kill sequence', or you could really need to learn the Lion's behavior. L1 Lion is not hard to master but I guess it might take a go or two if you're not coming in off years of D&D and Fire Emblem to make grid combat second nature.

there aren't really separate bosses/minions. If you buy the Screaming God, you get the parasite queen and the infected humans as well. Everything each xpack needs is contained within the box, with only the full Inverted Mountain campaign requiring more to actually assemble it, as well as the green armor expansion. Outside of those two, you're free to mix and match to your heart's desire within the main campaign.

There's an extremely loose mix and match policy here. All expansions can only be added in if you want them to and come with everything you need to fight that monster (whether it be minions, terrain, etc), and you don't 'need' any expansions to get several hundred hours of gameplay out of the core box. That being said, adding expansions to your game (especially early game) is going to change the way your settlement expands, and expands on the replayability of the game.

Under existing rules each expansion describes how it integrates into the campaign. You will find all the information in the expansion book. Expansions work as additions. Principally they are not conflicting with each other and you can mix up any number of them, but relistically adding more than 2 or 3 would turn into a cluserfuck and not the kinky kind.
There's also two expansions that can be run as a whole new campaign completely (with different starting setup, different end goal and some global rules).

The Base Game provides "one" scenario and a couple of minor alternate modes. But every time you fight a monster it'll bring a different AI deck that gets depleted differently.

(almost) Every expansion adds a new monster that slots in either on top of or instead of one of the monsters from the core game, giving you both a new boss fight to learn 3 basic and infinite specific variations of and a new set of resources and/or story events to guide the flow of the game. "Quarry" monsters tend to add more than "Nemesis" monsters since Quarries are fought more frequently and provide armor sets. A few quarries (Dragon King, Sunstalker, Gryphon) provide new 'full' games in which they replace the final boss and alter basic rules, as well as being hunt targets for the 'base' game.

In answer to your question, the only expansion I'd avoid if not going 'all in' is Inverted Mountain, since it's designed as a total replacement campaign... okay, maybe Campaigns of Death would also be weak without a selection of old expansions to work with it. If it's a monster expansion, chances are you can be pretty loose with "Core game plus just that"

Of the current expansions, the Gorm adds a lvl.1 monster to your game, and the Flower Knight is relatively early game with some significantly good things for your settlement. There's like 2 dozen models in there, those are generally sold between $15 to $25 each.

On the rules front, the Advanced Rules and all the cards and such that come with it seem rather good, not sure if it's worth $100 for that alone.

If you don't, it's debatable. AKD:M certainly has a good amount of game content with all these 'advanced' arts and disorders, new consequences for principles, philosophies, and scouts. Supposedly there's another system to be 'previewed' in the box and I suspect it's Wanderers (first mentioned with Candy & Cola) but even if there's not that's... it isn't nothing.

And then there's Antas the Child-Eater, our Santa/Krampus Nemesis. Supposedly a quest just to assemble for the fight. Supposedly balls-to-the-walls hard. There's a good chance that he's Lonely Tree-tier garbage, but even the Lonely Tree has its redeeming qualities and would be pretty worthwhile at a lesser price point... so that's a 'full' expansion on TOP of all the rest of the stuff in the box.

And neither Gambler (Currently '7') nor the 00 result have been revealed formally. Both those are expected to be larger than the normal "Narrative and a couple game cards" windows, possibly (probably) even bigger than the 'scouts' windows.

There was a scare that Poots was going to have to increase the price of a GC as an addon or restrict it to 1/pledge because of something big he planned to add. Apparently he cut a deal with his manufacturers so all is well but that might speak to some of the hidden value (or maybe he was already cooking up Antas and we played into his hands with the 'Krampus' twitch reward)

I have full confidence that the GC will be more than worth it, but YMMV

Dragon King and Sunstalker are also huntable quarry monsters, approximately on par with the Phoenix, if you're not using their campaigns.

Currently, I am doing a People of the Sun campaign. For my expansions, I am using Sunstalker (for people of the Sun), Spidicules (to replace the Screaming Antelope), Flower Knight (because I want to), and Dragon King (to replace the Phoenix). I also snagged Lonely Fruit, so might fight the Lonely Tree, but Supernova makes me leery of it. It looks like a difficult fight, and if I lose its Game Over.

Most obnoxious thing is that Extreme Heat rule. All the Lion armor is Heavy, and so is the Gorment gear, which leaves me with only Rawhide armor until I can start farming Spidicules, or get ammonia to make leather.

The pheonix they show has blank white spots underneath some hands in the top right, they didn't even finish it, and 2 of the female lion armours are put together incorrectly, look at their legs, they're all fucking janky.

Looking at their actual website now. Seems it's a painting group made up of VASTLY different levels of skill. Some of their galleries are really good actually, though mind you I still wouldn't pay their outrageous pricing, let alone for seemingly one of their noob level painters to ruin my models and my bank account. People could get better value by investing that money in practice models and paint kit and STILL pay less and probably eventually get just as good if not better quality out of it.

Also, found the auction that lion came from. Yeesh. 350 and only painting and putting together 7 models with shittier quality than above?? Also, the pics of other monsters he's posted on that ebay, the hand is put together completely wrong.

That Set needs some Iron, if you can get that from somewhere, sure.
But the Phoenix can take quite the punch, and it has weird time fuckery abilities, most of the time negating any wounds.
It also fucks over sane Survivors, so only bring the settlements lunatics to the fight.

So, here's a question for those that have gotten far enough.

Which of the three, Phoenix, Dragon, Sunstalker, would people say is the easiest, hardest, and their favorite to fight?

Don't go after Phoenix unless you have full survival actions and some crazy fuckers with a hunt xp or two. In fact, anybody who can't safely fight antelopes anymore is a great versus Phoenix candidate.

Phoenix armor isn't a bad goal, but if you're seriously considering going for it as of LY 8, you're probably in a position to fish for Lantern armor. Keep yourself stocked on picks and mine like nobody's business. Phoenix actually isn't a bad quarry for that, thanks to the Black Skull, though Beast of Sorrow would of course be preferred. Don't neglect filling out lesser sets in the meantime.

I already killed the Phoenix once, and don't even have any full armor set as of yet. I also have a Red Savior (now with ageless ring) which is what carried me through it, as well as the absurd amount of Founding Stones I found through the game.

Hunts like a 3 (Dangerous). Fights differently than a 2 but isn't really that much harder except for doing 4 with monster level effects like Grab. Gives you level 3 rewards plus an iron and other goodies if you play your cards right. Other than the chance of zonking on the hunt, it's pretty much the most efficient quarry to farm.

Keep in mind the legendary quarries are supposed to feel a bit different than the normal ones.
