I'm looking for something that would help me do that. If possible, I'd like to see something that would help me do High Power settings.
I'm already familiar with Anima, Mutant and Mastermind, Gurps and Hero.

I have it on good authority that gary gygax did not use miniatures when playing dnd. However, he is generally regarded as a good gm. Does anyone know how gygax determined which people were at risk of being hit when a wizard cast a fireball?
>>50955607
You don't need miniatures to know where people are in relation to each other. Just ask.
>>50955622
But how do I determine whether fireball can hit both of two monsters without hitting player characters? How do I handle a fumbled bottle of acid?
How do I determine whether attacking monsters reach the wizard or the fighter first?
>>50955635
Just eyeball it. Do they annoy you? Then they're within the range.
What's the best system for running modern urban horror with supernatural elements? I have a lot of experience with nWoD, but I know there's some other good shit out there so I'd like /tg/'s opinion.
>>50955358
Call of Cthullhu
>>50955408
Could anyone pitch me on it or give me recommendations for which edition, etc? I'm a huge fan of Lovecraftian shit in general but I've never had the chance to play CoC.
I adore Unknown Armies for this, it has a unique take on the themes I really enjoy.
Don't Rest Your Head is also good, although it's a very frenetic, fast paced horror game. Player characters in it are oddly powerful, but it uses the powers they have as the seeds of their own inevitable self destruction.
If D&D is superheroes set in medieval times, and D20 does D&D well, why is every D20 superhero system such shite?
>>50954664
Because people think that superheroes means capeshit. Specifically, American kitchen sink capeshit.
That's why.
>>50954664
>D20 doing anything well.
Well *there's* yer problem!
>>50954664
Because superhero games should follow a narrative to be like a story. IE, to be like a comic book. D20 and systems like it focus more on the characters themselves which distracts from the narratives. If you want a good comic tabletop, look at M&M or Heroes Unlimited
Anyone have any good pics to establish settings? Trying to find a few to represent locations in my game.
Specifically, I need a good wizard tower or two. But anything cool would help. Dump folders please.
So, I used to be pretty salty about age of sigmar.
Two of my cousins wanted to get into fantasy so I got them two sets of the get started boxes for christmas this year and after I got all the pdfs on my ipad and helped the two tards build everything I had them playing vs each other in the afternoon.
I realize now that age of sigmar is for them and not really for the older hobbyist like myself. fuck I feel old. I think im going to bite the bullet and go for AoS myself.
>>50954473
How old are your cousins? WHFB was a mashup of all sorts of fantasy and historical-themed shit that was pretty much a love letter to wargamers of all stripes. I would say AoS is certainly more accessible to newer audiences, for all its faults, which is probably why GW broke it out.The sad thing is less than a year after AoS dropped we started getting shit tons of decent Old World vidja like Vermintide and Total War which could have had a Dawn of War effect on the popularity and revitalised the line.
i'll always be salty about it
they killed over 30 years of awesome lore, cool models, and evolving rules just so they could make it more like 40k. i lost my favorite faction, tomb kings, a bunch of my friends lost their favorite faction, brettonia, and what factions remain are shadows of their former selves.
>oh yeah archaon can still be good guish!!!
>lizardmen are actually seraphon btw guys!!!
>[s]space[/s]sigmarines are the new main characters!!! pls buy our new models!!!
fantasy lore was why i played. they killed that. i get that i can still just use aos rules with the old lore, but it just doesn't feel the same. i'll always be a bit salty until they bring back the lore.
>>50954533
They are 14/15
I get that GW was like hey fuck it licence the fuck out of warhammer but all this makes me do is want to play old world. I love total war warhammer.
>>50954565
I made fucking sure my tard cousins did not touch sigmarines. God damn that shit looks so fucking stupid in the store.not gonna lie though the seraphon models look super nice and I want to paint them

So who owns the the board games that FFG made with the GW licenses? Could GW print these themselves theoretically?
>>50953122
They can as seen with Silver Tower.
FFG reprinted a Dune boardgame with their own IP but the same mechanics when they lost that license
>>50953122
The game rules are owned by ffg, the characters and setting are owned by FFG, so like >>50953178 said, they could remake the game with a new IP skin if they want.
>>50953144
Silver Tower (and more importantly, Heroquest, since Silver Tower is made under its banner) is not an FFG game.
GM here. I'm looking for ideas to fill up time on a several in game day long sea voyage. Not combat encounters, just things to happen on the boat both for pacing reasons and so the players don't feel like the game is just a series of combat encounters and skill check. Any ideas /tg/? Oh and by the way, the game takes place in an Elder Scrolls setting, that doesn't really change much but I thought I'd say it.

Let the players talk with the captain/first officer. That's literally it if you don't want combat and doing tedious, menial labour. Unless they are going to sail themselves, then just describe the weather and the breeze and the sun. You know, the entire situation.
And protip - if you never sailed in your life, DO NOT try to do this shit and just skip the entire voyage. Even if your players are equally inexperienced, shit just not gonna work.
>>50952996
Come across a ship wreck, being becalmed, random pirates, discovering an island. Discovering a new species of animal, sailing through reefs...
What are some good official settings for D&D 5e? I want to give my players something with an interesting cosmology and some opportunities for adventure, political intrigue and business.

I like the Sundered Empire/God War setting that was published with the 2002 version of Chainmail that WOTC briefly did(it's technically part of Greyhawk but is somewhat separated from the standard portion of that one)
Have you ever had a campaign where time travel was handled well? Were your PC's the time travelers, or was it someone else? Like someone sent to stop the BBEG or the players themselves?
>Have you ever had a campaign where time travel was handled well?
Well, uhh... technically, nah
>Were your PC's the time travelers, or was it someone else? Like someone sent to stop the BBEG or the players themselves?
Nah, nah
>>50952529
No I haven't.
>>50952923
Fuck off with that meme shit.
>>50952529
Not an entire game, but one of the characters was a time traveler and I thought it was handled pretty well and cool.

As a player, do you like to come up with highly situational, wacky, or otherwise unconventional plans beyond the norm? I find it to be more fun if someone uses the tabletop format to its fullest this way.
If so, post your favorite plans you or another player came up with
>>50951700
I normally try to come up with a plan the suits my characters lifestyle.
Cunning rogue? Sneak in and steal the mcguffin, poison the bbeg at a formal dinner without him knowing, rob the treasury and leg it to another continent before the lich takes over this one.
Honorable knight? Raise an army, inspire the people, gather the 5 sacred artifacts, destroy the phylactery, get killed in the final battle to inspire the party to finish the fight.
Full Caster? Lead the party on a bunch of quests, acquire levels and equipment, learn their weaknesses and backstab them, become lich and rule kingdom.
All joking aside, I don't like buying magic items most of the time, so I spend all of my character's money on a bag of holding and whatever looks interesting in the shops. Whenever there's downtime I write down potential uses for the things I have on the off chance one of those circumstances arises.

Squee isn't good, but it's fun playing a deck designed to kill your general as many times as possible. Skullclamp is the best card you can draw. Using Command Beacon just so you can discard it to a Cathartic Reunion feels pretty weird, too.
