I've been thinking of running a tabletop version of Darkest Dungeon and want to pitch the idea to my group, but I want to have an idea of what dice rolling systems I'd be adapting the game towards beforehand. I've heard in the past that the game already runs on a d8 system so I thought it might be pretty easy to port, but I feel like I'm missing nuances without actually looking at what formulas they use for the game themselves.
So anyone know if there are there any systems around here or somewhere else that have done this before? Or am I delving into other mostly unorganized homebrew attempts from other fans?

Depends how closely you want to cleave to the game. Are you trying to rehash the game in tabletop, or just have something with the same general tone and some of the mechanics (dungeon>town>dungeon cycle, stress, etc)?

I'd like to carry over as many of the mechanics as possible, but I'm more than willing to cut things out to make it work more as an experience than as a rehash. I'm not worried about variety from the game itself as I'm pretty familiar with homebrewing stuff by now and can manage if I get the system together, but I need to actually get that together first.
If there's a system that already exists that would work with basically the same experience though I wouldn't mind just learning that. It just sounded fun to port it and I was interested in the challenge.

Alright, here's how it's going to work. The first 6 posts, OP included, will post a Theme that must be followed, that will shape the world. A Theme is a trope, wide-reaching fact about the setting, or a vague statement.

My only contact with tryanids is watching hundreds of MWG batreps with them over the years. Matt does very well with them so I never quite understood the moaning. They always seemed like a high mid tier army.

As we all know, all of the Traitor legions in the Horus Heresy had a loyalist section. Did any of the loyalist legions have any of their forces turn traitor (besides the Dark Angels).

I'm hoping /tg/ can help me out here. My friend is GMing a nordic themed game soon and I'm playing a slightly bastardish character (at least by norse standards.) The nordic belief was that you only made it to Valhalla by dying with a weapon in your hand, but I want to make a character that denies his enemies that honor by taking their weapons out of their hand if they've not died outright from the fighting. My problem is I was hoping to come up with some sort of nickname for him to be given for this habit, but I'm coming up with nothing. If anyone has any ideas feel free to share them. Failing that lets get a nordic aesthetic thread going.

I find it lacking in unit variety but that's made up in stat specialization
