I'm a long time lurker and thanks to your advice and FPH threads, I lost 30 pounds a couple years ago (5'3 150lb female down to 120lb) and I've kept it off through counting calories, eating fit, and doing cardio.
I've realized that I want to build muscle because my job will entail lifting people (medical shit), and lifting is the way to get strong. I've been doing babby shit with exercise bands at home, but I now have the opportunity to move up and start actually lifting.
I'm starting college this week and my school has a gym. I'll be on campus on Tuesdays and Thursdays and plan to make use of it before classes. I've never gymed before and dead lifting with a barbell is a lot different than dead lifting with a band. I've only ever done squats with body weight or a 5lb free weight.
I read the sticky and I want more advice: give me your best, retard-level first timer advice, shit you wished you'd known from the beginning. Also, is two days a week gonna be worth it? Campus is over an hour away and I work nights the rest of the week.
Note: I'm 30 years old. I know that my "death genes" have switched on and building muscle is going to be harder from here on out. I'm up for it, though.

Get your form right with weights you can handle even if it went south before stacking on working weight. If you let your shoulder blades fly out in bench or round out your power back in squats and deadlift whilst under heavy load it can mess you up and take out out of action for weeks.
Check out Alan Thrall's how to vids of yoj are unsure of how to do a barbell lift, he has good stuff I used.
If you're totally stuck then ask someone who looks knowledgeable.
You'll think all eyes are on you but in the gym everyone is too exhausted / hyped / vain to be concentrating on anything but themselves.

According to Symmetric Strength (pic related) my Pendlay Rows weight is horrible.
My progress with this lift seems very slow (I don't add weight until I can get full ROM). I've watched Alan Thrall's video many times and am doing my best to have good form, but it doesn't seem to be helping.
Should I just switch to another row? Should I stop increasing weight on other lifts until my lats improve?

Oh hai /fit/, I'm a martial arts guy that does a body for life training program to supplement my judo and bjj training. A guy I do bjj with recommended stronglifts 5x5 because I have seemed to have hit a plateau on my regular training.
What are /fit/ thoughts and feels on 5x5?
