My grandpa passed away recently and my dad was going through the attic and found this from when he was younger. He put it by the trash but seemed pretty upset about it so I grabbed it without him notiocing and I want to restore it.

I've never done anything like this before. Has anyone messed with a pachinko machine to know how difficult this may be? Restoring the metal and repainting will be easy. I just can't figure out how to open the door without the key and the power seems confusing.

Any suggestions?

>figure out how to open the door without the key

If you want to do a serious restoration, it might be worth hauling this down to a locksmith, having him pick the lock and maybe removing the cylinder with the idea of putting in a new lock (with key) at some future date.

Once you get it open, some pics of the guts might get you better advice on repairs and clean-up.

I use to have one I picked up from a yardsale. I had a roomate who was an electrical engineer and he had it working off a 9 Volt battery in a few days for lights and basic triggering mechanism. there should be about 1000 steel balls with asian characters on them. You could always drill the lock out but I suspect a strong turn with a screwdriver might also get it open. I mean its not that made a little 0000 steel wool will probably remove the rust. I think its more of a formica than wood or paint.

I dont understand who Japanese could be addicted to these.

I had one of these for a while years ago, my mother found it at a benefit 'yard sale' at her work.

The lighting transformer was gone but it wasn't hard to figure out despite me being 14; it was all electro-mechanical and only had like three circuits. It had normal lights that were on all the time (when there was power) and it had two sets of lights that would light up for a moment if you got a ball in one of the special pockets. There was a buzzer in there too.

When a ball would roll along a trough, it would pass under a switch that would turn the main lights off momentarily, or turn one of two special groups of lights on for a moment... And the buzzer.

I mainly remember "playing" it because the cats we had back then LOVED to watch the balls bounce around and jitter as they fell through.

The circuit board in the picture is NOT mine but the only pic I could find of one exactly like it, mine looks fine so does the transformer yet it produces no electric shock when plugged in any help or ideals would be greatly appreciated the sooner the better before my cattle figure out its not working

What are the tools necessary for building a simple dollhouse? What's required for a slightly more detailed one, like pic related?

for the doll house pictured drill and band saw would be good. look like a router was used to round over the edges of each piece as well. of course also need some screws and glue. looks like they covered the screws with wood plugs. can get those at hardware store if ya want that look.

to make the furniture a scroll saw would be nice to have. and very small nails to make the hinges for the cabinet doors to open etc.

over all its fairly simple.

I built one for a school project in middle school with just a few scrap trim pieces, plywood, nails, rotary saw, and jig saw. it wasn't pretty, but it looked ok with some paint. like the other poster suggested, you're better off with screws for something long lasting.

Hi!
I'm want to make big project but without your help I won't be able to made it (with help I probably still won't made it but it's worth trying)

So I want to make something like Seva suit from stalker game http://media.moddb.com/images/groups/1/19/18674/11896101_603933716413461_851491522477581620_n.jpg

I'm planning everything for a while but I have problem with a helmet. I'm 100% sure that I won't find bullet proof glass looking like this http://cdn3.bigcommerce.com/s-kgpgw/products/130/images/779/mask-full__11762.1447970637.500.750.jpg?c=2
(I'm want it in this shape without nose and eyes)

So I want to ask you those two things:

-Is it possible to buy bullet proof glass and then form it?

-How later make this glass one-way glass? https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/One-way_mirror
I know that it's possible because there are motorcycle helmets like that.

Thank you for attention.

>-Is it possible to buy bullet proof glass and then form it?

No. If you'd bothered to study how it's made you'd know why.

Just make a pretend cosplay suit. A solid clear helmet is militarily useless. If you bothered to study war you'd know why.

Since you've not bothered to study. go do that instead of wasting thread space. When you study, all will become clear.
>>
>>1035408

Bulletproof "glass" is a laminate of polycarbonate, usually UV stabilized (to prevent yellowing in the sun).

You could vacuum form several sheets of it and glue them together. Note also that there's no single bulletproof glass. They're rated by their stopping power; you can easily get windows to stop most handgun and some rifle rounds, but AP rounds or a .50 BMG is a whole other story. What yours will stop would be mostly determined by how thick the mask is.

You can get half-silvered mirrors on acrylic/polycarbonate substrate. I THINK you can vacuum form them along with the other sheets without affecting light transmission/reflectance, but don't quote me on that.
>>
>>1035420

(cont'd.)

This being said, it seems like a waste to have an actual "bulletproof" mask designed like this. It's not like you're actually planning to get shot in the face with this on (if you were, you wouldn't be stupid enough to use a crappy design like this and DIY it yourself on top of that, I hope).

You should just do the single layer of half-silvered mirror, IMO. Going overboard is just going to be a waste of time and money; even on close inspection, nobody's going to be able to tell the difference, anyway.

Need some chainsaw advice. I have been learning about and pruning trees for years and I have decided to start doing it semi-professionally (more of a side-job kind of deal). I am also an avid rock climber and I am comfortable working aloft, so I have been teaching myself tree climbing. I am unsure of which chainsaw to get as a good all around chainsaw. I am getting a MS 150 T-C-E for use in tree, but I need something with a bar length of around 20-26 inches to cover everything else I could come across regarding the type of work I would like to do. Is the MS 440 a good pick? What about something else? Money isn't too much of a concern.

Anything Echo brand. I had a crew come out and chop down the rest of a tree in my backyard. It was a little over 2 feet in diameter and over 8 feet tall so that portion of the tree was too big for me to handle. They were all using Echo brand so it must be what the pros use. I've personally used one before that was years old and it started on the first pull everytime. If you need pro grade long term purchase I'd go Echo.

hey, as the title suggests, i recently acquired an old grayson lathe and have no knowledge of how these thing are supposed to operate

my biggest issues right now are:
-the top table rotates, two fingers will move it with the bolt as tight as i can get it
- i cant figure out how to raise and lower the cutting bits so that it can cut all the way through
-and i have no idea what some of the tools that came with the lathe are

more pics to follow

i bought it from a widow, the only information she was able to give me is that her husband imported it from England when they immigrated to Canada decades ago

any help would be greatly appreciated

You wake up and find yourself in a 15th century Western European barn.
With your modern day scientific knowledge, how would you fare?
Would the average person be able to recreate Napoleonic Technology?

What do you believe you could create based on your education and scientific skill without modern day resources, help, or environment?

I want to see what others believe they could recreate from their own memory to return to modern society.

Electric generators?
Lights?
steam engines?
smokeless powder?

Assume you are in a city, so you have a base level of civilization and resources.

I bought an antique marble bust at an auction.
Then I noticed that the bust is never properly resting on the pedestal no matter how I turn it.

My guess is that the metal rod that's supporting the bust is too long. But since it's never wise to go altering an antique yourself I thought I'd at least ask your opinion. Should I get my dremel and shorten that damn thing?

Just look at this pic. The bust weighs 30 pounds and I don't want it to collapse one day.

Just to clarify, there's a separate thin metal rod in between the pedestal and the bust.
Prevents the bust from tipping over or something?

I'm thinking of making floating shelves out of 1x6 for blu rays. Instead of using L brackets I was thinking of just drill through them and running screws into the studs. Is there a reason why this wouldn't work?
21 posts and 6 images submitted.
>>
>>1033259
Should work, but I would use multiple shelves to minimize the risk of something snapping. Also pre-drill
>>
easy to mess up the holes and not get them straight, also you'd likely need more screws than you would with l brackets since the stress on them would be different and while I'm not an engineer every way I picture what your describing seems to distribute the load on the screw in a much worse way than it would on an L bracket...

also you run the risk of splitting the boards...

maybe test one if your determined to do this? try it with your worst case heavy Blue ray collection... if it holds up all your BBW porn then your probably okay, but really an L bracket is the way to go
>>
>>1033281
>but really an L bracket is the way to go
I concur

it doesn't have to be that big, find a really slim one or make one yourself....paint it the same color as the wall and you won't even notice it

I live in an apartment building and I've had an issue with severe heat for several summers so far. I've had to install an AC and it has helped but it also costs me a ton of $$$ every month. Main problem is that All my windows are E and SE facing so the amount of sunlight that I get per day is huge. I've also tried installing new blinds and dark curtains but none of those have fixed the heat issue since the sunlight/heat still ends up inside of your room.

Last week I was looking at window tints for windows and even the cheapest option was something like $25/window. Well, Few days ago I had an idea that maybe I could line my windows with a space blanket. Went to a dollar store and picked two of them for $2 and I cut them up and attached them to windows with some soapy water from a spray bottle.

Worked like a fucking charm! My temp inside of the apartment is so low now that I don't need AC at all. Space blanket film is very fragile and kinda looks ugly because all the creases, from the way it was folded, are visible but I couldn't really care less. It reflects all the sunlight away from your rooms. It's also transparent so about 10% of the sunlight still enters your room which is great because you don't need lights.

Anyway, my first post on /diy/... hope this is helpful to others.

If you had posted asking for help, I immediately would have recommended the collapsible silver reflectors they sell for car windshields in the summer.

But your solution is both cheaper and more easily customized. Good job OP.

As an added bonus, the mylar will block transmissions from the CIA's MKULTRA mind control initiation satellites!

> If you had posted asking for help, I immediately would have recommended the collapsible silver reflectors they sell for car windshields in the summer.
That actually entered my mind since I have one of those reflectors for my car. That's actually what got me thinking about finding silvery tints for windows. Like I said, those are a great option but these titanium/aluminum films are expensive (I'm guessing they're around $7-10/sq foot).

> But your solution is both cheaper and more easily customized. Good job OP.

kek'd! they're also great at stopping laser listening devices.

There seem to be blinds with a heat reduction property but they cost ten times as much as OP's solution. Next step is to make a dyi roller I guess.

and eau de toilettes, etc. I've been thinking about giving this a try - I've looked at a few resources and want to get a small thing set up.

I know you can get essential oils (for aromatherapy) in health shops - can they be used or are there special perfumier's ones?

Also, it's probably a stupid question but do all oils dissolve in alcohol?

Does anyone here do this for a hobby?

All oils usually dissolve in alcohol. Whatever you're using, be it chemical or natural, make sure it's no more than 38% of the total volume or it will be absolutely disgusting. Don't use the e.o.s in health shops - get www.lgbotanicals.com and www.nativeamericannutritionals.com.

I just got an Arduino. Can somebody explain how the fugg pin inputs work?

>wire goes from 5V to switch, two more wires go from other end of switch to analog and digital pins
>LCD displays inputs of these two pins
>while the switch is pressed all is well, analog = 1023, digital = 1
>when the switch is released analog flashes up seemingly random numbers, usually in the 5000s
>digital stays at 1 but will flicker to and from 0 if I wave my hand around it

Where do these numbers come from? Is there a way to stop it (so analog = 0 and digital = 0 as neither wire should be carrying any current)? I wanted to use a digital pin to tell if a switch is pressed, but obviously I can't do that right now.

Riddle me this /diy/:
I need to put 5-10 cubic yards of sand into a 2' crawlspace, through a hole that measures 15"x24"(pic related).

I was going to build a chute and just rake all day but now I have nobody to bucket load. The worst part is I have a major back injury so I can only haul a couple pails before I'm in agony.

I was considering hiring some salvation army guys but I'd really rather spend the money on a rig with diy's guidance in design.
Any ideas?

OP here, having googled my problem more thoroughly I have discovered I need pea gravel instead of sand. Also need to dig out about 6"-12" of mud. If anyone has tips for digging clay out of a crawlspace it would be much appreciated
>>
Could you build an archimides screw so you don't have to lift the gravel?
>>
>>1028423
Conveyer belt might work, but you'd have to build it for that specific job. Make it so it runs both ways, you can use it to haul out the mud then deposit the pea gravel. If it were to swing back and forth that would be easiest, but nothing about this job is going to be easy. I'd almost consider digging it deeper as long as you're digging. You'd have room to work to pea gravel better, and better access to any electrical or plumbing that are running through the crawl space. Good luck OP.
