How lethal is working with Lead really?
I want to cast a cube of molten solder and use it to electroplate self-etched pcbs.
It's alloy is Sn60 Pb40 and i've really got a 4-5 rolls of rather thick wire, so i decided to use that, i've casted it already but i want to get the flux rest off of it.
Sanding it doesn't sound like a very good idea to me since people are so conceirned about lead, or have i fallen for a meme? I'll be fine in a rather controlled environment, right?
>>
>>1035896
wat?

you use tin plating solution if you want that 'silvered' protected look for self made pcbs

or you just drag the hot iron across everything

or i guess you could use one of those lead pots and dip the pcb in that
>>
>>1035907
My Actual question is if the sanding anything with lead is a bad idea because of health conceirns.
I guess your ideas seem more time efficient.

Asked on /g/ but they know nothing about electronics, only about posting desktops for some shitty nerfed OS.

I have one of those random pc-ps3-360 steering wheels, without pedals (usb).

I recently got a pair of pedals from the thrustmaster ferrari 458 rw set. The jack was cut off, but from what I gathered it wasn't usb, but some bullshit "t-rj12" format like those in phones.

The color of the four wires is the same as the one to the right, but orange is more like piss yellow and blue is baby blue. How do I know which cable does which?

I know rewiring to usb would work, because I did find sort of successful combinations except it only worked digital which defeats the purpose, or when it worked analog both pedals on the z-axis would brake.

1. Your thread was bad and you should feel bad. You came to us going 'fix it /g/!' and then got pissy when we told you to fuck off.
2. That picture is wrong. PS/2 and USB are thoroughly incompatible. There are some devices that can detect USB and switch over to USB or vice versa, but those are outliers and not the norm.
3. The RJ-12 standard is just a connector. It has jack shit to do with what's actually going on in the controller. You would know this if you actually googled your problem.
4. Pedals are not USB. They're just signals either from a switch or a pot. Plugging them in to USB like a retard won't work.

When I say it works, I mean it. It does work, I connect it to the wheel which has got a regular ass usb port meant for pedals, it detects it and they work as expected. I am not hooking them straight to the pc.

The problem is there's six wires, two of which stay on the inside (bridge with red and black) and the other four go to the outside (you can see from the pic where they are on the inside).

Right now I'm just keeping the cpl open with project cars in the background, alt tabbing as I try different wire combinations in real time. If both pedals brake or accelerate I go back to the desktop and try again.

So far I only got them to work well in digital mode, which is absolutely useless unless you only play Outrun. Before you ask: yes, it does definitely support analog, I've seen it happen and I checked the signal. Except, when I saw it both pedals were braking. Recalibrating does not do a thing.

Google does not help because it doesn't have a clear picture telling you which wire does which and how to rewire to usb, because most people with such thrustmaster pedals just buy the adapter and plug them up to the pc, which is not what I want to do.

If anybody has a some sort of blueprint, that would really help. I'm going to try to make it with wood.

Looks pretty straightforward. Get some caster wheels. Buy a dowel for the steering column. Buy a 2 x 8 board or wider. Cut out a square. Then cut holes in the square for the steering wheel. Maybe use a 2x12 for the body. That should get you started.

yo guys can you help me i bought a "Schneider Electric AQUASTAR" wall outlet.

I want 1 outlet to be always on, the other one to be switchble (on/off). I know this is possible but the instructions are very vague

do any of you guys have experience with this??

/diy/ what's going on with my daily energy usage? I'm up at 6 getting ready for work so I understand the 6/7am spikes, and I work all day and make dinner around 6 so the evening usage makes sense.

What's with the spikes at 2am and 12pm??

I live in a small studio so literally nothing is on or running (no heaters/AC, literally only the fridge and microwave are plugged in)

me and gf moved into 4bd house with our 3 cats.. realized a bit late that the insulation is shitty and the AC is ancient. put a window AC in the bedroom (400W) which believe it or not actually saves us money even though it runs all night long. rest of the house is set to 80F. it's early in the month so the price is $0.24/kwh. towards the end it's $0.40/kwh... fuck PG&E.

Hello /diy/

My home heating oil tank ruptured a few months ago. I haven't used the oil in at least 10 years (we switched to electric), but there was probably a few quarts still leftover in the tank. I cleaned up the mess the best I could, but it was on a dirt floor in the basement, so that shit all seeped into the ground.

The EPA cannot get involved, as my house was built to code by 1910 standards, and they would demand it to be torn down.

Is there any way I could go about testing my water for contaminants? I feel a little uneasy drinking this shit now.

>>

You on a well?

Yes: sucks to be you. Dig all the dirt up until you get down to clean dirt. Store the nasty shit in something where it wont spill. Put as much contaminated soil as you think you can get away with into your regular garbage every week until its gone.

No: Fuck it.

hey /diy/ - semi-frequent lurker here with a problem.

I'm plumbling a DIY overflow filter system out of 1.5" black ABS pipes & fittings for a 75gal fishtank. All was working well initially, but I had to add a union joint in order for me to break it down into 2 parts to remove/service it since I can't move the fishtank easily.

Anyways I added the union, cemented everything together, and the damn union is leaking a lot of water. Thing is, its not leaking at the threads like I'd suspected. Its actually leaking where the female threated part spins... Refer to diagram.

Anyone know what the hell I did wrong, or what I can do to remedy this?

Any and all help is greatly appreciated friends...

>picture is of exact type of union I'm using
>I have it orientated the same way as the picture.... with the male threads pointing downwards, and the female end threading up to it

Yea, it has a flat reddish washer. I was thinking maybe I didn't tighten it enough so I put a bit of tef tape and got it... very hand tight..
>>
It might just be defective. Get another one and try again.

I want to build a rain barrel, or just any large rain capture vessel. I know I could just buy one but I guess I want to have one that I can consider a piece of craftsmanship, something I could be kinda proud of. I also don’t want a giant hunk of blue plastic in my yard or one of those ones that try to look like wood barrels. They are not fooling anybody.
Problem is, I have no idea how to start going about this. I know actual wood barrels require a professional to make so that’s right out. Any idea what is should do material wise? Structure? Anything for me to go on would be nice.
Has anybody done anything even kinda related? Should I just shell out for a wood barrel and retrofit it?

>Should I just shell out for a wood barrel and retrofit it?

Short answer is yes you should just retrofit an old wooden barrel.

Making things water tight and nice to look at is a very tough trick to pull off unless you have a really good idea about what you want and the skills to make it happen.

This dude knows his craft, this is how barrels are made, only the big ones are ten times as deadly.

Waterproofing is difficult to say the least. You're much better off looking for an old barrel to repurpose.

what the fuck do you do for a living that you have no idea where to get a cable from when someone obviously thinks your an expert.

the cable is the easy part, measure the spacing between the pins and the size of the holes, search for crimp housings and find one similar, there are hundreds of different types and hundreds of different manufacturers making clones/derivatives but they are mostly exactly the same. order some crimp terminals while you are at it. oh, and a crimp tool also unless you are a bo diddley then you can just use pliers and a bit of the old soldering but be prepared to run away when it burns down again.

this doesn't solve your issue however, a burned up melted to fuck housing like that doesn't just happen, you need to treat the disease instead of the symptoms.
>>
>>1040100
i fix phones dude. and virus removal. why these people brought me this, i dont know.. tis outside the scope of what i advertise.

as for treating the cause of the issue.. let thier staff deal with that. they have electrical staff, they just must have had the day off or something.
