Sup /diy/ I have a question for you. How do you tighten a wallet?
Pic related isn't mine but very similar. The card slots are loose, shit keeps falling out which can be a major inconvenience. I've heard soaking it in warm water for a couple minutes and letting it dry is an easy way to make the slots tighter but I don't want to ruin the leather. Any advice?
From experience, dump your girlfriend. You'll find you're looking in it a lot less.
Seriously though does steam have an affect by shrinking leather?
>>1036884
Already did that.
I just threw away a bunch of junk from the small 'pockets' a couple days ago and the remaining (useful) stuff tends to fall out since the slots have been loosened by the aforementioned garbage. I don't want any of my shit dropping out of my wallet at any time. What do?
>>1036889
How about fashioning a flap sewn to the top with velcro or a snap at the bottom to cover the slots?
so i've got this project, i made this little rubber band car kit and this is going to be an add-on for it by swapping parts on/off the chassis.
what is beyond me is how to wire this, i figure i could use 9v to power it, but then i need to step it down to 7.4 for the motors and 5v for the servo tester (using to control the servo). sadly im just a designer and know nothing of electronics, anyone have a simple solution?
buy cheap rc cars, gut its electronics transplant them. Call it your invention. Cool car steve, win at life get into MIT and freebies from Microshill
>>1036837
yeah i would like to avoid gutting an existing thing.
>>1036837
Ahmed here gave the best advice, best if you cause an uproar and then transition it's cause to racism. That way it will get promoted beyond comprehension.
My personal advice: look for a site like elecrow where you can work together with them and they sell and produce your template and you get your share, even as a barebone kit they will probably add it to their inventory because they have a few lasercutters. It's chinese of course, i ordered pcbs there.
Never done any electrical work in my life, never messed with hobby motors either. I have three hours of spare time at work today and want to hook a motor to a battery and a light switch. I have no idea what I'm doing. Pls help.
>>1036791
Red to positive of the battery
White to one side of the switch
Additional wire from negative of the battery to other side of the switch.
So I assembled this. But the motor doesn't turn on in the on position unless I physically press the wires into the battery.
>>1036869
Ah no, that's what we call parrell. Good way to kill the battery quickly.
Are you sure the motor is rated for only 1.5 volt?
Has anyone had any experience with one of these cheap gimbals? I'm going to be making a handheld device for my GoPro. All of the premade devices are $175+. I figured with the left over GoPro mounts and a tiny bit of fab work I can make something nice for under $80.
>cheap
>Good
Pick one, there's your answer.

Is this for a dji drone? Had a crash with mine (phantom 3 advanced), and the yaw arm just broke. 3D printed it, put back the connectors (Which i bought on the official site, chinese ones actually don't work at all.) and now it films okay. Have to say that my camera is dji's, not gopro.
There is a problem, but i think it is from the crash : the motors won't work, and the app indicates a "gimbal roll error". I think it is the gyro that must be stuck... If anyone has had the same :)
Also, dji is famous for the roll error of its gimbals, apparently (though i haven't experienced it personnally), the stabilisation isn't perfect. Just so you know.
Yeah the fucking firmware or what ever doesn't work. Gives you fucking errors and what not. I have mine glb 3axis sitting on the shelf collecting dust because of that.
Any HVACfags around here?
I need my evaporator changed (leaking).
What should I expect to pay (parts, labor, freon recharge)?
What advice can you give me regarding choosing a company, asking questions, looking them while they work, source for parts etc etc?
Thanks in advance!
get more than 1 quote.. ideally at least 3.. the cheapest one is gonna screw you somewhere in materials or shortcuts.. the most expensive is just gonna screw you.. go with the middle one.. don't be afraid of calling around and asking a few different places telling them company x quoted me x dollars for this, and asking them what they'd charge.
Here's a DIY suggestion, DIY. This is about doing it yourself not hiring someone to do a proper job.
Assuming an r22 system and it was installed with shutoffs on the condenser so they can save what gas you have in the condenser while replacing the coil, maybe $600. If they can't save your gas $1000. If your coil is hard to get out >$1300. Coils run around $300 bucks. Gas is around $100/lb. Labor depends on where you live.
How do I open one of these? I use one a lot at work and lent it to a coworker, now the staplers don't seem to get to the end of the stapler. I doubt I will get a new one soon enough so I need fix it.
>>1036605
>lent it to a coworker
this is where you put your fingers in the handle, grip it real tight, and smash the back end into the coworker's skull.
looks like the dipshit fucked up the rear load slide.
>>1036605
>lent it to a coworker
Big mistake.
Remove the loading slide by unhooking it (piece sticking out on the left side in your pic) and pulling it out. Some staples may have gotten stuck in the slide. Get a piece of wire, bend a little hook on the end, stick it into the staple slide and pull the bent ones out.
Reload with fresh staples and never let it out of your sight again.
>>1036605
push in on the thing shoved up it's ass and give it a quarter turn to the left.
I want to buy a table saw for DIY-tier stuff, not looking to install a 220V outlet and so forth. But I don't want a lump of shit either.
Did some research and the schools of thought seem to be "wait until you see a great deal on a new one" vs "new ones are overrated, just buy a 40 year old Craftsman on Craigslist and restore it".
Thoughts on how to approach it? New or used? Particular brands that are good bets?
what is it going to be able to do that a miter saw and a circular saw with a guide, couldn't?
>>1036501
Go much quicker. I am finishing a project that required a lot of long cuts and it was quite a pain to get accurate straight cuts using a circular saw. Would have been a hell of a lot easier to just slap the wood up against an adjustable fence.
I just bought a Bosch 4100 with a gravity rise stand, and it has proven to hold up to all the positive reviews. I'm pretty new to woodworking and have been using it almost daily for just under a month now.
I was extremely frugal waiting for a sale, and I managed to get home depot to price beat a local store. Reg sale price here in Canada land is 699-799 +13% tax, I paid 545 all in. Great buy IMO.
Sup /diy/ I am interested in having a standing desk for my laptop and paperwork but the cheapest I can find start at 200€. You guys have an Idea how I can save some money by building it myself?
Talking about adjustable desks btw.
>>1036439
>comfy
maybe, he sprung for a slightly bigger than 9" laptop,, as opposed to an overpirced hipster-meme desk, could just lie on the floor like the rest of us.
@OP - hydraulics. I'll say no more, but, someone else might. Youd still need an existing (or new) tabletop, and a bit of metalwork (prob welding) - that + height adjustment, you aint /diy/ing shit under $200, srs.
"adjustable" could be as simple as sticking a car jack underneath it, or manually lifting it and sicking a bolt in the side
So I made It to the second round of auditions guys. Hopefully I don't look like a spurg if I wind up on TV. In any case I'll get to meet Mike Row if I make it. I'll get to rub elbows with some high rollers and have a little more credibility in the investment and tech community. I could give a shit less about the $1,000,000 prize. I mean, it'll be nice but I'm more interested in making connections and finding mentors and like minded beginners than pretty much any amount of money.
I don't want a handout.
I want to have fun and make my own way.
I'll be checking in if I can ever get through on the phone lines.
>>1036387
>>1036387
Good luck anon!
>>1036393
Ty. Still no email or phone reply. I don't wanna spam them. I'm sure I'm only one of several hundred, possibly thousands.
Is this what I think it is?
>>1036367
doesnt look like asbestos

Looks like rockwool to me. Home build in the 1960s? My old place was full of the stuff. Why they use brown as a color I have now clue. Its like 60% fiberglass and 40% wool. See if you can find a full bat of the stuff that still has the paper on it. It generally tells you what it is and what materials its made out of.
I made an AGU fuse out of a brass cotter pin I had laying around. the brass has an approximate diameter of, oh, maybe 1.5 mm? I'd have to measure it with the micrometer at work...
The circuit I plan to use it for runs at 12-14 volts. I'm curious what math I should use to determine the amperage it would blow at... I don't really know what I should google to get the information I need. Any pointers?
Why bother, do it empirically
-Calculate the cross sectional area
Search: brass temperature vs current
Search: melting temp of brass
I found charts talking about the coefficient of temperature? I never took maths in thermodynamics, not sure how to use numbers like "1.5x10^-3" (the temp coefficient of brass apparently) to get an amperage that will melt it...
TV screen repair? I got this for free and the screen ended up being broken and I was hoping I could repair it. If any errors sorry I'm on mobile, any help would be appreciated.
>>1035972
Not worth it. The part to fix it costs more than the tv costs brand new more than likely. Sadly, most tv's are this way.
>>1035972
>TV screen repair? I got this for free and the screen ended up being broken and I was hoping I could repair it. If any errors sorry I'm on mobile, any help would be appreciated.
See if you can find a TV similar that is broken but has a good screen.
Also wtf is that brand just scrap it.
>>1035972
The panel is the main value of the TV really. If the panel's broken, the TV is effectively worthless.
If you *really* wanted, you could tear it down and try to find a replacement panel. The panel should have a part number on it somewhere.
recently made homemade napalm with gasoline and styrofoam, any tips for some doper shit?
>>1035968
Lye soap (old school) and diesel. Is what real napalm is made of.
Personally I'm a fan of using petroleum jelly for napalm, I find it makes for a better end product, is more user friendly and kind of more fun to make
>>1035968
I had a formula for c3 (the explosive- same concept as c4).
Lost it when old PC crashed.
Can probably google it.
Hope you're on a proxy though.
But I can just buy tannerite©
I finally got around to fix a USB hub that lost the connector. The original connector were a "Micro B 3.0 female".
Someone on /diy suggested solder on a normal USB3.0 female connector.
But I found out that the board only has 4 pins and normal USB3.0 uses 8 AND micro B uses 10!
I'm a newb on this and this shit confuses the fuck out of me!
you're mixing up pins and pads, maybe that's why no one responds.
Provide non-shitty pics of the board please..
>>1036012
*Facepalm* You are right, I honestly didn't even see the pins, had to bring out the magnifying glass just to see it. I'm filled with stupid!
Btw do you know how I can figure out which order the pins are?
>>1036024
post more of the board?
How the fuck do I repair these platic parts of keyboard? Shit is too small to apply glue. Taping them is not an option since their thickness is important
The side is about 8mm long
Do the white bits move down to activate the switch?
>>1035961
Yeah
Managed to do it somehow with different glue. Sorry for making thread for this, I didn't notice there was a thread for small questions. Gonna delete this one soon
