So I wanna build a new bedframe because I'm starting to see this girl and I want her to be impressed that I can make a bed. What's an easy and interesting thing I can do to make my bed that currently just sits on the floor more interesting.

I kicked around the idea of a platform bed or a floating bed, but I really don't want to hurt my shins all the time and I love having my bed really low to the ground.

make a simple frame and use hairpin legs?
>>
>>1035775
Just buy a bed and tell her you made it.

Otherwise you'll have to wait x amount of weeks until you can impress her by actually building the thing, and getting right.
If you just buy one you can impress her with it tomorrow.

I'm so fucking torn.
I have a burning passion for woodworking, and i love watching people doing it on youtube.
Then i found this fuckin guy, "the samurai woodworker". He's just as bad as it sounds, i cringe so hard every single video, but i keep on watching, because he's so fucking good i can't stand it. How do you guys cope with cringy ass weebs or obnoxious people in general, which have one or two redeeming qualities that make you want more?

TL;DR
Goddamnit Jessey i hate you so fucking much, but the woodworking game ridicilous

I've been smoking pipes for about 25 years, and I've decided I'd like to make one for myself. I've been watching YouTube tutorials and I think I'm going to make mine the traditional way, with just hand tools, a rasp, and patience. One question maybe folks here can answer, I saw one guy using tung oil on his pipe, but I have some concerns about breathing that stuff and how it would react to heat and moisture. Typically pipe-makers use carnauba wax or occasionally beeswax. Is using tung oil safe?

Tung oil is food safe.

I would argue it a lot safe to inhale then tobacco.

Hey /diy/! I was researching signal jammers and came across one such device called a spark gap generator. Do any of you know about them and or how to build one? Thanks! Pic unrelated

>>
>>1035662
Google has plenty of resources for that.
>>
Ive got two in my bike and 8 in my car. Those spark gap generators are pretty handy. That said, just google a jammer. More reliable and more effective over multiple frequencies.
>>
>>1035662
>spark gap generator.

Its actually called a transmitter.

Also don't fuck around signal jamming anything or building a MIRT, thats a quick way to federal prison

Well, /diy/, I have a bit of a problem. If anyone wants some more backstory I'll do my best to oblige. I'll put it bluntly, though.

My kitchen roof has fallen in on itself and I need to know how I can cheaply repair it. I live in a rainy environment. I have exactly $80 to my name. I was looking at corrugated plastic roofing, some wood planks, some waterproofing on those planks. That comes out to about the money I have.

I don't say it lightly when I say my household is poor. We live in an older house (built sometimes in the 40s or 50s) that had several "improvements" made by the first owners around that time after purchase. One such improvement was a sunroom type situation in the kitchen. As the years have gone by

The years have not been kind to this sunroom. While it decayed and cracked, it was all we could do to keep from doing that ourselves. From time to time we could buy caulking, plywood, and whatever else have you to keep it from getting too bad but there is only so much you can do. We'd have maybe twenty bucks to last two weeks sometimes and when you're faced with a leaky roof or an empty stomach it's no secret that hunger will always win.

Bills have just gotten worse in the past few months. I'm in college and I'm in the awful position where if I were to work part time I would make less money than the university gives me because I'm unemployed. Talk about being stuck in the system, right?

We don't qualify for any federal aid because I live at home. I can't afford to move away from home because of how little I get in the first place, though.

If there's anything else that you need I'll do my best to help.

Sorry if I screw up the posting at all - first time on this board.

Thanks for understanding.

I'll see what I can do. I live in a pretty identifiable area though and quite a few people I know peruse this board. I might be gone for a few hours - I need to do a lot of cleanup. It just finished raining and stuff is flooding.

Hi DIY I have been wanting to make some extra side cash and the idea struck me to offer myself as a residential painter

the problem being sure ive painted a few sheds here or there but i dont yet have the confidence to take on my first job or feel i really know the trade inside and out.....I cant find any opportunities on the area to get hired as a painter or painter apprentice

what should i do to move forward? just do a bit of research and jump in head first? let the customer know i am a beginner for a hefty discount?

any advice on moving forward would be appreciated /diy/ seemed like the best board to ask

I'm planning to do a mod on a Dreamcast: I'd like to construct a case with a 3D printer and make a Dreamcast laptop. One of the big challenges is constructing a battery to power it. How do I make a battery that can be attached to the internal PSU of the Dreamcast?
10 posts and 2 images submitted.
>>
There is also gonna be a 17 inch lcd too, so i need to figure out how to tie the psus to the same battery module.
>>
Remove internal psu and find what voltages it supplies, then get a laptop battery or make your own pack out of 18650s that match the highest voltage and make neccesary circuitry to get lower voltages if the dreamcast psu supplied multiple ones?
>>
>>1035468
Please mod it only if it's broken or damaged.

anyone here have experience building fences? is it worth it to diy or should i just pay someone to do it?

>house on corner lot
>have another 15' to extend back(/side)yard fence
>need to add 90 linear feet of fence, 7 feet tall
>have brother who did his own fence and it came out really good, but tired him the fuck out
>mom had contractor do her fence, had him come out and give me a quote (pic related)
>brother's fence, which was even longer than my extension - only $1200 in materials
>contractor quoting $2700 for the fence, was trying to upsell me with 1-2 gates or privacy fencing but not necessary
>but contractor comes with 10yr warranty, removal and haul of my old fence, no hassle or work on my part, professional installation

well, should i /diy/ or just pay for the fuckin thing?

also, is redwood a good fencing material? i'd have to ask my brother what he used

no one here has built a fence before?
>>
>>1035311
Read the sticky. Why does it have to be 7' tall? In any case, there's no way I'd pay that much for a fence. If you're not over 50 after the first couple of days you'll be conditioned better and it shouldn't be that big of a deal.
>>
>>1035311
I had to move my privacy fence. Sucked the fattest of dicks... 15 hours jumping up and down on cheaterpipe to get faggot tractor to dig. Rock bar all day. I'll be paying someone else next time. Fuck that shit.

I'm looking to install a shed in my grandmas back of house. There used to be one there about 30 years ago, as evident by a very shitty repoint job that roughly outlines the original. The new shed is one of those put together plastic ones with a base
The problem I have is the AC unit. How much of a pain in the ass would it be to have it moved about 8ft to the right, under the window? Is it just a matter of extension piping or does the whole system need to be drained and cost me out the ass?
15 posts and 7 images submitted.
>>
To re-route pipework you would have to discharge and recharge your system yes.
>>
>>1035262
Costs around $400 to recharge a system. Plus you'll need the cost of materials like a new pipe word and longer power cables. Not worth it imo, just put the shed elsewhere.
