I have accumulated a lot of stuff over the years as I was in the auto salvage business for a few years, I have around 50 scrap automobiles, 150 scrap car batteries, 60 or so catalytic converters, and all kinds of miscellaneous steel and parts, I have a shop with lots of tools....what could I do with some of this stuff to make it more profitable than just scrapping it...will try to get some pics of my actual stuff up later if any suitable tips are given here

I've been thinking about tiny house for years, and now I am actually wondering about the feasibility as opposed to the allure of it. How is electricity usually supplied to a tiny house assuming it is partially or part of the grid? Is there normally a utility pole that is erected somewhere close, or are the wires run underground? Also, what about water hookups? Specifically, how are the pipes insulated from the frost line up and into the house?

(not OP)
In the USA, the power companies won't run service to structured that haven't passed building code inspections. And tiny homes won't pass, so you can't get electrical service directly to your little trailer.

You have to run an extension cord from a building that already has power, or you have to get an agricultural service pole put in. The ag pole has a meter + breaker box on it, and some sockets.

The page below says it cost a total of about $1000

Hey guys, what's up? So I'm trying to get a nice gift to my fiancée, so I took her old teddy turtle she used to sleed/watch movies with a couple of years back. That's like a childhood habit that she kept and I think it's really nice.

So, the teddy turtle is kind of big, like 60 centimeters long (about 25 inches, I believe), and I would like to restore it. You know, wash it, stuff it some more (it's a bit "thin', some of the stuffing is gone due the time), replace the eye and so on.

What should I do? Should I go to a seamstress and ask her to do?

I mean, is it SAGE to diy? I'm really afraid to screw up the turtle

On another thread I posted a few of the ways I save money on my day to day bills, I didn't want to hijack the other guys thread so I thought I'd start a "thrifty Living" thread of my own.

Please give us you tips for saving money on day to day expenses anons.

I personally never buy anything over $100 until I've sat down and written down why I want/need it, if I can't come up with a good reason then I don't buy it.

I also look for free wood on Craigslist to burn in my wood stoves, I haven't paid a cent to heat my house for a few years now doing this.

Unnecessary restriction. Don't buy any junk you don't need.
I also learned today that if it's brown flush it down, if it's yellow let it mellow. You know, save shekels by being filthy. This basic idea can be utilized in many ways.

Take water from the toilet to drink instead of pumping it out the sink. The toilet water is already pumped out into the toilet for you so use that instead of running up your water bill. Just scoop it up into a jug and put it in your fridge.

They're both SMT components. The one on the left looks like a capacitor from the color but could be a resistor or inductor. The right component is an IC. Could do about anything.

So I have this PVC Tarpaulin or Canopy or whatever on my truck.

Its in decent condition, but has gotten dirty and stained over the years and I want to make it look nice again.
I tried scrubbing it with detergents and a nylon brush, and even pressure washing but the stains don't want to come off.

Is there any way I can clean it properly. Or maybe even put a coat of paint on it?

any kind of paint that costs less than a new tarp is going to flake off of something flexible like that.

It looks fine to me.

Its not mine in the picture. I've taken mine off for the summer.

I checked the price to have a new one fitted and its over $400.

It may actually be Vinyl not PVC. I'm not even sure.

I've seen some videos on youtube of people putting 'dye' on things like Vinyl seats and PVC pipes and extension cords. I'm wondering if this will work for me.

Hey /g/.

5-7 years ago I bought X530 5.1 Logitech speakers.

For some time now I've only used them in 2.1 mode for my TV, after selling my PC.

As you can see in the picture there are 5 small columns, each with 2 little speakers.

The idea is to make 2 columns out of these 5 with 5 little speakers in both, 10 in total and put them in new wooden frames.

I already tore them apart, now I'm stuck with no idea how to connect 5 speakers to one cable, without losing 90% of sound volume and quality.

I had a set of X530s. They are pretty mediocre speakers even by Logitech standards. It has two identical drivers per speaker, which is pretty useless. If you opened them up you will find they don't even have a crossover or anything. They are cheap speakers though, so you are at least getting your moneys worth. Not like the crap Bose sells.

>I already tore them apart
So they are useless now. You should have sold them and spent the money on something useful.

>now I'm stuck with no idea how to connect 5 speakers to one cable, without losing 90% of sound volume and quality.
How much money do you want to spend on these garbage speakers? The amplifier is in the 'subwoofer' (which is just slightly larger than a decent sized mid driver) and it is designed to drive two garbage universal speakers per channel. You want to be able to drive 5 garbage universal speakers per channel. The amp can't handle that without you losing most of your volume and maybe even destroying the amp.

So you need a new amp. If you are going to buy a new amp you might as well get some decent drivers. That means you can't reuse anything from the speakers, which you already destroyed. They generally sell on CL for $25-$30 if in decent shape. You could have bought a set of used full sized speakers for that. Get an old amp/receiver from somewhere and you'd already be worlds better than any stereo/2.1 speaker systems Logitech maker.

Also, designing speaker cabinets is not just about slapping bits of wood together and having a beer. They have to be designed for the drivers you plan to mount in them or they will sound like crap.

First sorry about english.

Keep the faith OP, you can have a lot of fun with that shit. It will never sound good because you can't have 6 good amp channels and 6 good speakers for 100$, but don't throw the shit away.

>>1038440
Okay I get your point and agree with the general idea but in detail :

- They have a capacitor on one driver to get a bit more treble, Put your ear on one driver then another you can hear it. Of course not crossover on two identical drivers, the filtering is active and it's in the """subwoofer"""

- They are really okay for the price, here it's like 15 - 20€ for the 2.1 and around 50€ for the 5.1 version.

- Totally agree about Bose, it's not even Apple-tier "good but 2x too expensive", it's "bad AND fucking expensive"

>So they are useless now.
No don't be mean

>You should have sold them and spent the money on something useful.
Yes but it's really cheap so you might as well have fun with it

- Putting more speakers on an amp channel doesn't make you lose power, either you plug them in series and yes you might be limited by the amp max voltage, OR you plug them in parallel, you get more power out of the amp but it can overheat, or just produce (more) shitty sound.

- Yes OP can buy a real system and it will work better but it's not the question he asked

- Actually building a closed cab is mostly about slapping bits of wood together, you just need the right internal volume and be careful with materials, sealing, resonnances and stuff. For this kind of drivers we really don't give a fuck, just keep the same volume they were in and you're good. However, bass reflex, horn, the different kinds of bandpass... yeah that's complicated stuff.

SOURCE : I have the x230 on my PC, it's shit compared to a nice hifi system, it's amazing compared to what most people use. And a used one can be 15€ so it has a pretty amazing price/quality ratio.

I got my hands on a x530 and customised it for gf. I'm going to dump the pics and explain.

Brit here, I'm looking to purchase a house in the next 1-2 years and have been very dissatisfied with what's available in my price range (£100-200k). I was staying in a very nice holiday home in Austria and saw that it was produed by Artichouse. After looking at their other models this one stood out:
http://www.artichouse.fi/versatile-and-bespoke-log-home-collections/tunturi-collection/tunturi-196/

I've found a company in the UK who've quoted me £89k +foundations +land +electrial/water/sewage hookup for a fully fitted turnkey build and I've found some nice plots for £20-30k so it looks like £175k would be a safe budget.

Does anyone have any experience with these homes? I wouldn't be building it myself so I'm not sure how appropriate this question is for this board. I'll delete the thread if it isn't.

>>

>found a company
what company?

89k for what exactly?

does it use the same material or just the same design with shit material so it will be freezing?

planning permission for what? does it allow this sort of design?

that design is not suitable for uk because balcony in the rain is for laughs, also what happens to a garden, what is outside those huge windows, why the weird shape living room, why no corridor from entrance to bedroom etc... the design itself is literally shit holiday catalogue tier design with little merit and makes very little sense... why the huge roof for example, why the double height living room, basically why everything and not a good design other than a holiday cabin, yes that is a cabin at best.

and like all other build a house threads... it always ends in "talk to a real life local architect" because 4chan does not have the bandwidth for a proper discuss for you to fully tell us what you need/want and what is feasible and how much etc...

TLDR talk to a real life architect before taking a shit catalogue to a builder and tell him to build this and then becomes a biggest stupid mistake in your life
>>
talk to your local council, you will find they are being "pressured" into making specific places for self build homes, basically they are allocating land that will already have the water/gas/BT ready for you to build on, plus the planning permission will be there already.

other than that, ikea homes can make things easier
