Ello chaps, anyone here got any experience in making neon (or other noble gas) signs and sculptures?

I'm really interested in trying to make some, and I have some questions that I couldn't easily find on google:

1. What kind of glass are the gas tubes made of? Quartz? Silica? Pyrex of some kind?

2. What kind of torches do they use to bend and shape? Depends on the kind of glass I suppose

3. Is there a good way to get into the craft? I have experience sealing, backfilling, vaccuming, and forming quartz tubes, but nothing as intricate as a sign shape.

Besides that, I'll be posting some cool ideas for sculptures.

OK. So after a tiny bit more investigation it turns out that you can very well use quartz tubing for neon signs, it's just that people more often use soda lime or pyrex (borosilicate) glass tubes because of the lower melting point. Basically you don't need to have an oxy-natural gas or acetelyne torch to work it.

But the good news is that I have a lot of quartz tubes. And i have a oxy nat gas crossfire burner. Not to mention a shitload of Argon. So I think now I will just look into buying some electrodes for the ends? Can't be that hard to fucking bend some hot glass, eh?

I'll let you know how bad it fucks up

I'll spare u the sob story
Bottom line is I wanna make a table for my uncle who's confined to his bed, pic related, for a large part of the day.
The table has gotta clip to the handles I circled, So I just need help finding a place where I can buy said clips. The handles have a circumference of 4.5 inches.
After that, finding a piece of plastic/wood to attach said clips to shouldn't be much of a problem.

The overbed table is a what I would go with. In DIY spirit though I think I would take a couple scrap pieces of wood maybe an inch thick something like 4x4 and use a hole saw approximately the same diameter as the handrail and cut them on the edge of those pieces. Fasten those to the base of the table and that takes care of one side.

The other side perhaps use the same method but have the semicircle cuts facing downward. For a better visual as you look towards the bed from the feet with the table in place the left side would have wood supports that look like a backwards C and the right side would be an upside down C. That setup would be something that could quickly be set in place and removed. If the supports are placed far enough apart you wouldn't have to worry about the table sliding.

For his safety it should be something that can be easily removed. If you need a more secure connection you could drill 4 holes-2 in each rail equidistant apart, and bolt a piece of rod through each hole. Drill 4 matching holes on the table and the table can sit right on top of the holes. The base can be coned out to allow the bolts to more easily find the holes with a step bit and a little bit of sanding with a Dremel cone bit.

Frankly the picture >>1033059 is designed for such things, but I am assuming for some reason this won't work for you (too small, no floor space, etc). That's all I have for now. First idea works if you don't own the bed, second idea is better if you don't mind a little modification to the rails.

You need to follow the water all the way to the source to have no doubt it's coming from your AC unit. Not a A/C tech, but it the many houses I've lived/been at i've never seen the drain pipe anywhere other than the side of the house into the grass next to the cooling unit

Anyone here ever make thier own sinkers or reload bullets for profit?

I ask because I have a lead pour pot and access to srap lead for $1 per pound. And there are times when work is slow enough I can do wtf ever I want for a few hours.

I've done a bit of reloading, you're talking about casting the bullets only I assume. I don't know what the market is like, but it doesn't feel like as many guys reload as used to, especially for pistol. You could try, but I wouldn't expect windfall profits. Sinkers I have NO idea about, I've never been much at fishing.

How do I do those things attached to the big balloons?
6 posts and 1 images submitted.
>>
First get 2 microphone stands and a bunch of pom-poms. Then attach the pom-poms to the stands with rubber bands and tape. get 2 large balloons filled with helium from Party City or grocery store. Tie balloons to the top of mic stand. Done. No mic stands? use any size pole with a base.
>>
>>1032463
The ball is up because of helium.
>>
Literally just a rock tied to string with streamers taped on and it's being suspended by the balloon.

The light bulbs in the recessed lighting in my kitchen have been dying very quickly (occasionally, within a day). I looked around online and saw someone say that this could be caused by voltage surges from a spastic light switch.

I took off the light switch cover and grabbed my multimeter to try to get a reading. There were two screw-thingies protruding from the right side of the switch.

With the lightswitch off, I took a reading between the two screws and got 124.7V (which seems a little hot).

With the lightswitch on, I attempted another reading and generated a large spark that wrecked the tips of my multimeter and threw a breaker in the other room.

What did I do wrong? Also, as a bonus, any ideas for clearing up the problems with the kitchen lights? I am in the US and am using CFL bulbs.

>>1032183
You basically touched a hot to itself (ie a short) when you did it with the switch on. That is bad. Don't do that.

>124.7V (which seems a little hot)
How good is the multimeter? Might be within the margin of error if its a turd meter like something from Harbor Freight. If it was a Fluke and had been calibrated anytime in the last decade I would say you have a problem. I don't know what would cause the voltage to go UP though. A drop in voltage isn't uncommon with wiring problems but I've never seen it go up. I am not an electrician though. Maybe someone with more experience can chime in.

>using CFL bulbs.
CFLs hate voltage fluctuation. Try using standard incandescent bulbs until you identify the problem and fix it.
>>
>>1032183
>standard incandescent bulbs

If the switch is in a metal box in the wall, the box is grounded.
When you took the reading one of the probes may have touched the screw (with the switch [ON] both were hot) and ground at the same time.

So my shower was clogged as fuck for a while, draining really really slowly and I decided to clear it out

I opened it with a scredriver and pulled a ton of nasty hair out of there, like 3 big chunks

After that all seemed fine, but I didnt shower since

Now it's not draining water whatsoever in any way, and keeps filling with water if I try to empty it (it's not overflowing the shower chamber but it stays on surface level).

I couldn't find anything on google about this issue happening AFTER the clog is cleared

Pic related it's the best I could do since it has water all over

The clog is obviously not cleared. Rent a snake or call a plumber to clear the drain
>>
>>1031485
Where could it be though?

Previously it was draining slowly now it's not at all, after clearing huge chunks of hair out

That white thing goes in a U shape and has an opening under it, feels clear there
There's 2 green caps like you see in the pic and 1 open pipe that seems clear as far as i can reach ~5-10 inches in it
>>
>>1031483
Is it a self-closing drain, or do you have to put a plug in it? If it's got a closing mechanism, you might've fucked it up by taking it apart and digging around.

If your growing it inside you have to adjust the time the lights on to get it to flower.
That is unless it's a male plant. Then you're not getting anything not matter what you do.

It for sure a male, only the females flower. You can look at parts where the stem splits and check for pollen sacs

Hey /diy/, I'm not sure if this is the proper forum for this kind of thing. I've been lurking on 4tran for years, but it's been mostly /pol/ and /fit/.

A couple months ago, I dropped off my bike and Bafang mid-drive motor kit at a bike shop. I have limited experience taking bikes apart, and wanted to make sure this was done right because I've never taken the bottom bracket off where the pedals sit. A month later, I called to check on the status of the bike. The mechanic had the motor mounted to the bottom bracket, but he was still figuring out the wiring (the manual isn't very helpful) and he'd call me when the bike is ready. He said it'd be a couple weeks. That was a month ago.

To make a long story short, I hoped the bike would be ready by mid-August because I'm going out of state for a month. It's not absolutely necessary that the bike is ready by then, I was just hoping the project wouldn't take so long.

I've never dealt with a bike shop before, so I'm not sure if it's rude to keep calling and hassling the guy to finish my bike or what. I like the bicycle mechanic, he seems like a good guy and doesn't afraid of anything. I called four other shops in the area before I found one willing to take on this project. If he couldn't figure out the wiring, he'd let me know right?

Anyway, what I want to know is should I just call the shop and pick my bike up in whatever state it's in and finish the job myself while I'm out of state? I have some limited experience with wiring fan motors, game consoles, computers, etc., and I'm staying with my bro. He has experience tinkering with electric lawnmowers, if that helps.

Pic related: that's the motor I got (different battery). It's a BBS-HD.

Throw your bike a way and light it with fire. Then buy a cordless drill and have it attacked with a remote and a rubber thnggy and have it push on the wheel directly. Then shoot yourself in the face and light yourself with gasolene.

The shop dont know what the fuck theyre dooing and you prolly wont have much better luck because those kits dont work most of the time, youll prolly need a machine shop (or a shitload of ducktape) to fix it. Hope you got a quote on the retrofit or you show up and they demand a $2000 payment for labor. kek

If I were to install a few new outlets in my house, should I use 14/2 or 14/3? I'm leaning towards 3 because I'm sure I need the ground, right? Is there another way of grounding the receptacle without using 3 lead wire? As far as the breaker box and everything goes, I have extra spaces.

Just doing a bit of research before buying anything so I figured I'd ask you gents. Thanks in advance.

So, I'm a bit stupid. I just researched for 30 more seconds and found out that the 14/2 has 2 leads plus a ground. That being said, is there any advantage or specific applications for 3 lead wire?
>>
>>1030394
Its often used for 220 volt installs in the US, as they have 2 hots. Its also used when you have a light/outlet controlled by 2 or more switches. If its just a standard 110 volt outlet with nothing fancy pants going on then the the extra wire is wasted.
