Hey /diy/

Would this work? Trying to get double the capacity but same voltage. Would rather avoid going right to the terminals if possible.

Kind of.

It looks like it's in parallel. If it is, you're good to go, just make sure the battery packs are at the same charge level before you hook them together.
>>
>>1036831

Thanks. I just hooked up another battery I knew wasn't fully charged to see if it was working in parallel.

Thanks again

Permanent live, switched live, earth, neutral. The light stays on, whether the switch is on or off.

What am I doing wrong?

Let him ask a question if he cant figure it out.

I dont know shit about that so i cant help
>>
You need to take a better picture, but basically you have both switch lives in the permanent, so the switch now doesn't do anything.

Can I use this without the CCFL side of the circuit, just disconnect the bulbs? The backlighting isn't working (it's likely the bulbs), but the LCD panel itself is fine and could be used for awesome

It'll also leave the half of the circuit that is producing 1kV+ live, which I'm not that comfortable with

After staring at the board and a diagram of another very similar inverter board using the same SEM2150 snipping the red ones would seem a good way to go as that kills power to inverter side, and yellows for good measure as then it'll be completelly severed from the rest

Opinions on best AC-DC tig welder that's under $1500 (prefer with torch and pedal, included)?

Looking to build bicycle frames (steel), as well aluminium fabbing later on down the road (hence the ac/dc). I also just want to fuck around with tig welding, as I only use mig at work.

Also need enough amps to use the welder for general maintenance and repair of farm machinery, fences and the like (stick welding) on the side.

>>1036284
Don't some Tig machines let u run sticks off of them too? Idk im lurking hard cause I'm curious as the OP. most people just tell me to go with blue or red. And pay as much money as I can afford...

But that's never helpful.

Also with TIG you dont get all the bullshit flux splatter.
>>
Everlast. cant go wrong with your budget. plus 5 year warranty.
>>
>>1036285
Yeah mate, you can run tig on stick and stick on tig machines.

>>1036287
Cheers. I'll check 'em out.

What's the lowest duty cycle you can get away with for tig welding? Obviously it's not industrial use, but I'm looking to eventually monetize my tig hobby. Only an apprentice so going from 26 an hour to 17 is hard.

Hoping to get set up for boat, boat trailer and other maritime repair and fabrication along with dealing with some car guys, so headers, exhausts and maybe the odd bit of body work, although I'm not too crash hot at banging metal.

hey guys, not sure if i can post this here but its kinda tool related so here goes
i found this thing years ago outside in a field and have always wondered what it is. It looks like some kind of wrench made out of steel or something. i was thinking of making it into some kind of blade. any ideas?

I called my apartment emergency maintenance but I have no idea when they will come. There is a pip on top of my water heater that runs up to my air conditioner I think and it has a little hole in it that is spraying hot water. It has started to leak into the carpet now. I only see one thing that sort of looks like a valve on it but it has a warning tag on it and I dont want to blow myself up or cause more damage. I tried turning off the power but I guess that has nothing to do with the water. Is there anything I can do??
12 posts and 2 images submitted.
>>
>>1036259
First off, whats on top of your water heater? Thats generally where the water comes in and leaves. If you have any shut off valves they will be there.

Second, why would your water heater have anything to do with your AC?

Third, that is a drain valve. Do not use that unless you have somewhere for that water to go and you have the supply shut off already.

Finally, turning the power off is not going to effect the water heater as water is pushed through it via the water pressure in your pipes. There is also a pretty solid chance that it is heated with natural gas and not electricity.

Whatever the deal is you need to shut off the water. If t hat means shutting off your whole apartment then so be it.
>>
>>1036259
Turn off the water, open a tap somewhere and and turn it to hot.
>>
Sorry I don't really know much about maintenance, I live in an apartment, in the closet is the water heater and on top of it sits the AC. I looked all around I can't find any other valves or things to turn its just a big blue cylinder with that one thing I showed the pic of. There is a copper pipe running out of the top of it and into the back wall, that is where the water is coming out of that pipe. It is too far back to reach I can't tape it up or anything.

Is there a quicker way to clean VHS tapes other than, open the case...
>remove one meter
>clean carefully each inch manually with a cloth
>put the clean meter in place
>repeat
This appears to be extremely slow, and I have too many tapes to clean! Would be better if, somehow, I could put the tape on something like the reader, but insted of reading, it would sping and clean it, like one type of car wash facility.

Put it in a clean vhs player on slow and run it by a cloth.
>>
>>1036180
>run it by a cloth
Where to put the cloth inside the machine, in a way that it does not fucks the other working components, like the drum with the video heads, spinning?
>>
Wont running a static building cloth across the surface at moderate to high speed cause static? Would the static cause a magnetic field strong enough to ruin the tape (worse at the end than at the beginning.)

It's been 2decades since I touched one of these things. No idea if what I'm suggesting is possible.

Look at the name on your faucet, look for a model number.

Google those together with 'parts' and find the part. Buy it

Alternatively

>See how expensive they are
>Buy expensive one
>It turns out to be cheap shit and made in a china factory too, all you did was pay for the badge.

No, you broke it because you pushed/pulled it too hard or tried to disassemble it like an Orc. There's no repair for stupidity.

Hello /diy/. With college coming back in session, I'm throwing together designs for my loft. The following images are the design with measurements in inches.

This first image is the top down view. Anything marked red is a 2x8, anything marked blue is a 2x6, and anything marked black is a 4x4. The unmarked squares are 6x6. The small red marked rectangles are vertical 2x8s.

This is an orthogonal view for reference.

My main questions are the following:

Should I use 1/2 or 3/4 inch plywood for the large surface area? It needs to hold 2-3 people + furniture.

The lifted smaller areas are for storage. What plywood thickness should I use for those? Will a single vertical 2x8 be enough support, or should I add another to the postless sides?

I realized my joist distances are unlabeled, they are ~19 inch apart.

I've googled and found a pdf with instructions for calculating joist spans and distances and such, but I just wanted a second opinion from people with experience, thank you in advance.
>>
>>1036102
I'd play it safe and use 3/4" plywood for sheathing.

OP, you need to realize where your loads are going. You should have a 6x6 for all vertical supports, which you don't seem to have in the front under your shelves. You should also consider the extra strain those lifted areas are going to put on the 2x8 girder at the top.

Also, I think you should put supports under all four corners of those lifted shelves, just to be safe.

Also, that thing is probably going to be heavy as fuck.

Good luck

I'm going to be making a large kitchen island (about 5'x5') that only has to stand for a few days for a film shoot (pic related was sent for reference). I can handle the bottom, but I've never worked with stone, and since this is for just a couple days, I don't really want to spend $3,000 on a countertop. Is there a good way to get a solid stone-looking top (preferably a plain white porcelain look) that can hold about 200 lb, and won't scratch easily?

Is there a good /diy/ way to get rid of earwigs in my apartment before hiring a pest guy?

I live on the 2nd floor, I don't have any type of flowers or vegetation in my apartment, and obsessively clean almost daily each morning. I haven't seen any other type of bug in my house, but an earwig about 2 or 3 times a week.

Also my cat stays indoors 24/7 and every 6 months she gets frontline flea and tick treatment even though she has never had fleas or ticks before and no one else comes in my house that has a pet or could transfer bugs.

Any bug spray from the hardware store will work. They are basically ants.
>>
>>1035917
Will that keep then from coming back (like not wanting to cross the spray line) or will it just kill them like bee spray?

Thanks!
>>
I really think you need a psychotherapist. Who gives a shit if you find a couple earwigs a week? They eat OTHER bugs and plant matter ya goon.

Expected 12 inches of rain this week and my parent's new house's back patio floods because the back yard's gradient is bad.

Will a 6 inch deep trench to divert the water help at all? Do I need to make it go somewhere or is simply giving it some depth to pile up and soak in through enough?
11 posts and 1 images submitted.
>>
You'll want it to go somewhere and you will probably want to install some drainage pipe in it. Otherwise it will just pull dirt in and fill the trench.

Does the house have gutters over the patio? If so, are the downspouts being led far enough away from the house?

Really the best bet is to fix the gradient and get the water away from the house with gutters and proper drainage.
>>
>>1035885
yeah and fill them with gravel so you dont have an open trench and if your real fancy that black drainage pipe in the bottom
just make sure your trench leads to lower ground so the water has somewhere to go otherwise you just turned the yard to a swamp

water always takes the easiest path so make that path somewhere else

also this is called a french drain
do one next to the patio too work it into the landscaping
>>
>>1035885
It's not a drain if it doesn't go somewhere. It's just a pond then.

...pun intended.

Good day /diy nosaurs. All contributions most welcome on the biggest project I have ever undertaken.

I have been given the task of doing the electronics for a medium size H-Frame Hydraulic Press. The hardware inc. frame has been built by one of the team. He's a veteran machinist and his work is of very good quality, but he knows nothing about hydraulics or electronics. I also know next to nothing about hydraulics and in doing my research I am concerned this is not simply an electronics task.

The press is ultimately for lab experiments to do with oil and lipid extractions from plant materials. As per board rules and to avoid 'confusion', I would like to state emphatically that there are no legal constraints vis-a-vis the project and (if successful) planned experiments, as well as the plant materials and types to be experimented on/with are 100% lawful in our locality, Barcelona, Spain.

With that out if the way, the good stuff.

I am concerned that this capacitor may not 'hold' enough current to power the press....
