Ive recently been offered a position in an emergency animal hospital. But im fairly new and dont know much when it comes to medication. Plus im squeamish about worms/maggots, and have never had to handle an emergency situation before. Im not sure how i would handle it?
Any stories about emergencies? Anything you guys want to share about emergencies?
My previous hospital was really nice and patient with me, im also scared of leting down the emergency vet
>>2172449
probably will be euthanising animals
>>2172484
Ive been through that at the othwr hospital. My biggest concern is that i wont be able to stomach a worm infestation or something.
I mean, it's all part of the game. You're either in play or not at all.
Ok, so something's been bothering me.
I got a few mice a few weeks ago. One named Funky, the spotted mouse in the artist's rendition, and one named Fresh, the tan one.
Funky's the sweetest thing ever. She constantly accepts peanut butter from my finger, and even will crawl into my hand and let me pick her up (if I offer peanut butter and let her down when she wishes).
However, she keeps shaking her tail. Very, very fast. Like, really REALLY fast. It looks like she's vibrating it.
Online, people say that a mouse wagging its tail means it is aggressive. However, I don't think this is the case. Funky has never once bit me, and she still shakes her tail when I'm not around. She even shakes her tail when NOTHING is around, including her sister, Fresh.
So, why the fuck is my mouse shaking it's tail? Is it aggressive? Or is it not?
(also, peanut butter is giving my mouse diarrhea, or at least stickier poop. what can i use instead to tame it? i'm afraid peanut butter might be bad for funky and fresh)
She's in heat.

thanks

Hello again mouse man.
She wants mouse dick, it's normal and will stop soon. As for the peanut butter, too much is bad because sugar and fat. You don't really need treats to tame them, just keep handling them. Still, if you want to treat them, try giving them their favourite food (if you feed them a rodent mix, see what goes the fastest). Fruit and veg is good in small amounts but don't give it until the diarrhea stops. Or buy some specialty rodent treats from the pet store. They usually have these special cheese or chocolate flavour drops that mice love.
Hornet question.
I live in southwest Ohio and the last few days while mowing the lawn I've seen a big-ass hornet looking motherfucker putzing around my porch. He looks fucking huge, about the size of my thumb.
But also while mowing, I saw him crawl into a little burrow in my lawn that I'd assumed some mole or snake or something had made.
Are there any types of actual hornets in my area that do this, or is this just one of those digger wasps that I don't need to worry about?
Pic unrelated, just a little bee friendo
I think you should consider torching the place
>>2172343
Is it somewhat sandy soil? Does it look like this?
I'd bet it's a cicada killer wasp. Harmless, as it shouldn't hurt you unless you physically grab it or try to eat it.
>>2173408
yeah, OP's description sounds like cicada killer. Another spectacular insect we sadly lack in california. The mating swarms look like great fun to watch:

Good taste. My favourite insect is the Golden Retriever.
My mom is talking about getting a doggo I asked for a long fellow but she said no they are too big and too fast to have as a house dog. She said they need to run alot. Can you keep a long fellow as a house dog or do they only do racing ?
they're couch potatoes, you can keep them in an apartment.
>>2172005
Really ?
>>2172013
look into adopting a retired racer.
My pupper has contracted fleas and I have no idea how to fucking get rid of them
I've tried flea baths, Frontline, fucking flea collars, everything
Nothing is working and I hate seeing her all fucked up scratching all the time and stuff
What the fuck do I do to finally purge my pupper and home of these unholy beasts?
2 doses of advantage a month apart should do it
>>2171971
But how do I purge them from my house?
I live with about 12 people in my grandparent's house. It is very messy, and no one seems to give a shit.
It's fucking disgusting, and I'm trying my hardest to leave.
Should I call an exterminator? Flea bomb?
the advantage will turn your dog into a living flea trap
the second dose is very important!
I would hypothetically like to swim with a great white shark one day.
Does it attack unprovoked?
How do I not provoke one?
Is there a certain duration one can swim with one before they get agitated?
Are they territorial?
What are some tells, if any, that it will want to feast or attack me?
Should I just guess and be lucky that it doesn't feel like nipping me?
Safety tips?
>>2171817
>Safety tips?
Don't swim with maneaters?
And shark's won't attack unprovoked but they will nibble if they're curious. Unfortunately a big shark's nibble is more than enough to kill a man.
Anyway thrill seekers have swum alongside Great Whites just fine. There doesn't seem to be any extreme danger but if the shark comes towards you you're completely fucked.

Last month I rescued a kitten from a sewer and I decided I'd update you on her status.
She's literally the happiest kitten I've ever seen, plays hours on ends, loves toys, and craves human attention and purrs endlessly and loudly.
10/10 bud4lyfe kitten
Qt cat, wonder how long she was in the sewer.
>>2171410
Likely a couple days, it took about 6 hours for her to become friendly so not long at all.
She was about 8 weeks then and is about 12 weeks now.
As soon as we gave her toys she just went berserk on them and was the happiest kitten ever.
Why do chickens have such fluffy butts?
You're sick

After hitting submit I realised what this must sound like, but it was actually meant to be funny and not sexual.
>>2170870
Haha! I was just wanting to know what they smell like too. Just curious. Haha!

Because they're the scientists of the avian world.

Some are territorial and many are loud, however they also exhibit bro-like behavior towards humans who are respectful to them.
Is it possible to domesticate or at least become friendly with street birds?
If I pet one, will I die of HIV?
>>2170428
Post a picture of these black birds op. I know very little. I cannot even tell the difference between a crow and a raven. I think raven is bigger byord.
>>2170434
Ravens are unmistakably larger. IIRC they're also more iridescent and shiny so they'll appear more blue than black in light.
ay guys my bro got bit by a spider 2 days ago, and the skin started deteriorating away, n when we poked it with a needle, green stuff started comin' out. it really hurts, and he said his leg has felt like it was on fire for the last 2 days.
does anyone know what kind of spider bit him? he said it was black, and that's all the information i got from him.
>>2170305

No problem friend
They better be working on a nautical theme to go with the goodies.
I'm soon getting a full time job and I don't have anyone to take care of my dog. There's a bunch of websites full of students who apparently are all animal experts and would just love taking care of dogs. The thing is that they're all super fishy and not inexpensive either.
The only doggy day care in town is pretty far away and super expensive, literally half of my monthly income. The salary is good, by the way.
So what does everyone do with their dogs if they don't have family to take care of them? Most people have jobs and at least half the population here has dogs, so there must be tons of people having the same problem.
Dog walkers. Get someone else to go by your house and pick up your dog, take him to the park and stuff, then drop him at home. Or they do it themselves - do you work close to home? Maybe you can come on your lunch break to let the dog out and then go back
what shitty country do you live in where you don't get any break time at your job?
I walk them before I leave, feed them and hang out with them in the mornint, and then crate them. I almost always come home for lunch, but they can make it if I don't (I know it isn't ideal which is why I rarely do it).
I give them a Kong or something before I go so they have something to do for the first few minutes of being alone. I am sure they mind, but they obey like good boys and girls when I ask then to get in their crate.
Are zoos actually bad? I'm so fucking sick of articles popping up in my news feeds that talk about how animals are "clearly distressed and despairing 24/7" inside of zoos. Is there any actual truth to this?
>>2169364
They're both good and bad.
>>2169364
Some animals fare better than others.
The lions in my local zoo are realy stressed out and miserable because of visitors, they pace in a tiny part of their enclosure where a reed curtain covers them from people
>>2169364
In general, yes. The whole idea of locking animals up and cages so humans can stare at them - I mean, you don't need to watch a documentary to know something is sort of fucked up about that.
Zoos do host breeding programs for endangered species, which is sweet, but 99% of the stuff in zoos is not part of any program.
