I defer to your experience /an/

This is a slightly biased /pol/ thread. The question I ask is this.

>Are dog breeds stronger or weaker due to cross breeding on a whole?

stronger
>>
>>2171868
Could you please present an example?
>>
>>2171867

The term you are looking for is "hybrid vigour" or "heterosis".

I will never own a "pedigree" or "purebred" all it tells me is that the dog is inbred and its parents have won a beauty competition.

I select dogs for type personally, I like landrace types of dogs a type of dog that evolved specifically from people who bred good dogs to good dogs when they performed the job given to them.

Do Nerite snails clean the substrate of whatever falls down there or do they typically stick around on the glass and plants?

Also how many for a 20g tanks?
>>
>>2171319
if you have a good mix of nerites, ramshorns, Malaysian Trumpets and maybe some cories and amano shrimp, your substrate should be in great shape in terms of detritus.

As for the amount of nerites - start out with 3-5 and go from there.

Three quailes, 3 finches, a baby chicken, all dead and countless others attacked.
And now they've broken through three fucking inches of concrete and seriously fucked up one of my quails legs.
I am beyond mad right now.
I work in design tech at a school, I've built a machine that will eviscerate any rat that ventures into it, but now my last line of defence is gone.

How the hell do I rat proof a floor?
Concrete, a steel sheet, then more concrete? I've heard of rats eating through steel buckets.
Right now the only thing I can think of is a suspended cage, so I can see if anything's eating through.

Try a live trap! They're pretty smart, and if you diligently trap and release they'll decide it's not worth it.

That said... wow, I've never heard of rats attacking livestock like that.

The plant general: What the FUCK is that edition
This plant is swole as fuck

Welcome to /plant/, the resident plant general thread. Dank purps, next level veganism and come on. It's motherfucking MMXVI and you STILL aren't photosynthetic? What the fuck is wrong with you lot.

/Plant/ is for the discussion of plants (obviously). Horticulturists, hobbyists and botanists welcome! Questions about plants? Want to show off your two inch dick-I mean plant? Maybe you want to start growing something new and exciting? Well come on over to /plant/!

Introducing a new basic caresheet with every thread
This thread: Nepenthes truncata HL (Also most HL species in general)
>partial sun to bright filtered sun.
Neps do well with high output fluorescent arrays, unlike most temperate carnivorous plants
>lower light will lead to poor growth and pitcher development, but is rarely fatal
>Truncata seem to adapt well to lower humidity.
They aren't picky cunts like ULL nepenthes
>Well draining medium is a must, unless you like root rot.
Truncatas are ocassionally epiphytic. Use 1:1:1 LFS, Perlite and Orchid bark
>Don't keep in standing water.
Why must you harm your babies like that?
>water with dH2O only
>no dormancy required

I work at a pet store that sells animals as the animal care manager. I can't believe some of the people that come into my store.

>How many goldfish can I put in .5 gallons?
>Wait, guinea pigs need hay?
>I stole all these reptiles from Florida on my last trip lol why are they all dying? what's a UVB light?
>We need another bird we thought it would be fun to let it outside and it flew away lol
>I found this turtle outside and I want to keep it (illegal in my state) what do I need? What? That's too expensive. I'm going to keep it in a rubbermaid bin. (somehow shocked when it dies two weeks later)
>People buying pets as gifts. Have them surrendered to us months later because surprise surprise, nobody wants an unexpected pet
>"I want to return this gerbil. My kids picked it up by its tail and its tail came off."
That was a fun $278 vet bill.

Some PetSmarts 'boycotted' the animal shipping company they used because they got fucked in the ass for animal cruelty. So if you see empty PetSmarts, it's because the store wasn't making enough money per small animal to handle the upcharges of shipping the small animals. I'm trying to get one near me to take in small animals from a shelter instead of having empty cages and not selling any small animal merch, but they are being huge Jews about it.

Found this little guy left inside a hot dumpster Friday afternoon. I brought him home and gave him food, water, and washed his fur. He spent the rest of the night sleeping and biting things around the house.

Today I found him relaxing in a dark corner and he came up to me to play. I fed him again and he seemed to eat more than yesterday night.

What scared me was when I found his diarrhea sprayed around his litter box and some still on his tail.

Should I take him to the vet today to check for worms, or any stomach problems? Could something in the dumpster cause him to get sick? Please help, I like this little fella.

My mom named him Jerry btw.

keep it indoors and have it fixed as soon as it's old enough.
>>
>>2173711
idk how old he is, but i'd guess he's probably a month or 6 weeks old. I have no problem taking hin to the vet because it's only 3 minutes away, just dont want them to take him from me.
>>
Kittens are often born with worms that they get from their mother, so it's a good idea to take him to the vet for some dewormer. Diarrhea could be caused by that, illness, or it might even just be stress.

No matter what, I'd recommend a vet visit for the little guy/girl. Get that sucker a clean bill of health.

It's also not unlikely that it has fleas. The vet should be able to recommend a kitten-safe preventative. To get rid of fleas that are on him now, you can give him a bath in Dawn dish soap. Leave it on for five minutes before you rinse it off. Keep him nice and warm while he dries.

Good luck.

He got another dog. From a pet store of all places. Some little poodle mix shit. The law has forgiven him, the public has forgiven him, but you don't just stop being a nigger.

They don't talk about how his dog fighting ring was a hub for gambling and drugs and gangbangers, or how they found connections to a nationwide dog fighting organization.

Does anyone know if there's a (legal obviously) way to get a Latrodectus pallidus In the Usa? They're only found in Israel/the middle east (And Russia occasionally) I'm assuming that finding someone in its home country then buying it directly from them if they managed to catch one wouldn't be legal due to it being a venomous spider and I can't imagine it being legal to intentionally buy a foreign species of spider, am I wrong there? Can you buy/bring foreign spiders to america regardless of whether they're venomous? I obviously wouldn't be letting it lose into the wild but I still assume that I can't just buy them.
Is the best/only legal option just hoping one day that a package from Israel or Eu/Me from like ebay happens to have a baby stow away?

Best bang:buck canned cat food?

I've got two 3mo kittens and feeding them adds up. I estimate at the current rate, about $800-1000USD spent per year. I was wondering if I could lower that a bit without negatively impacting the long-term health of my cats.

I've tried so far:
>Wellness Kitten 3oz cans
cats like it but it's fairly expensive and you only get 3oz cans for like $1.50/ea, have to feed them like 4 cans a day. But it's supposed to have high protein for kittens and they seem to enjoy it.
>Wellness 12.5oz can
these aren't kitten-specific but you get way more for your money (~$3) compared to the 3oz cans. The problem is distributing the right amount, not over/underfeeding. Refrigerating the can thickens the entire formula and makes it harder to deal with. I thought about using a scale to make sure I scoop out the right amount of food, but it seems like a pain.
>Grreat Choice Poultry Platter 5.5oz can
I found this by accident, it's like $0.50 pate and grain-free. A lot of water/"gravy" in the can and the contents look pretty sludgy, but the kittens eat it. Maybe I should just stock up on this as it's about a third of the cost of everything else, but there's gotta be some catch, this can't actually be as good for my cats as anything else? Also you can only get it at PetSmart
>Natural Balance Wild Pursuit 6oz can
This was on sale for $0.83/ea but it seems to normally go for more like $1.25-1.50. This pate is dog food-like in consistency but is packed with protein (11%) and calories (up to 250kcal in 6oz can) which has allowed me to feed my kittens each a can per day, also high protein is good for kittens right? A lot of reviews say their cats really hate it, I can see that, mine seem to scarf it down like they do anything.

Any kind of cat food you guys swear by?
