i don't know where the nest is. i think it's in the ceiling of the car park.

i called 3 animal hospitals and the only one that picked up told me to call the city's wildlife service. but when I call the city wildlife the line just hangs after one ring

No it won't bite you because your skin is too thick.

These guys sting once and then die. The hairs are soft and fluffy but good luck trying to pet one.

You can die if you're allergic. If you aren't the area might swell a bit or not at all.

Hornets and yellowjackets can sting multiple times though. They are pests and a lot less benevolent.
>>
>>2176281
Also if you get stung use a credit card to get it out. Push the card towards the fat end of the stinger so it slides out. If you use your finger you can end up picking the sack and releasing a lot more venom.

I used to own like a billion of these guys. They're nice animals and honey is awesome.

How come that those who worry about biodiversity loss the most are evolutionists instead of Christians?

If one acknowledges evolution such as me, one would know that new species will evolve. It has also been shown that evolution and speciation goes much faster as thought.

An ecological and evolutionary view of the world shows a world in constant motion. A Christian one is more static. They, Christians, should be the ones that care the most.

Also pls don't bullshit me about nature. To eleborate on fast evolution and to avoid misconceptions: insect and plant evolution and speciation can go very fast.

Obviously once you make large animal species extinct it would take a long time before anything big would evolve again. But I happen to think it would go faster as is normally thought of.

The people most obsessed with religion are also often the least-interested in science and ecosystems etc. Hence why creationists and muslims never have jobs in these fields (or in anything involving complex thought really). That absence and ignorance then creates a feedback loop of giving even less of a shit about the natural world.

Because the Bible essentially subscribes to the view of "all other species are there for mankind's use"

Small animal thread general?

Mostly just want to ask a question. Do hamster breeds really have different "personality" traits? I've never cared much for hamsters but after working in a petstore that got "Djungarian" hamsters I fell in love with those particular ones. They're incredibly sweet, curious, and slow and calm compared to the other hamsters which are either too hyper to hold or seem cranky as fuck. Now I'm thinking of getting one.

Those different 'breeds' i.e. Syrian, Roborovski, Djungarian etc are actually different species. Syrians should be kept separately and Robos in groups but I don't know much about the others. Also you definitely shouldn't mix species.
>>
The different species do have different temperaments....as is true for most species of animal

what is the best way for a crazy dog person to interact with dogs but isn't capable of owning one or fostering one for several more years

i already contacted a breeder to be put on a ridiculously long waiting list (3 years) so that's exciting, i just hope she emails me back

in the meantime i want to get some snuggles from other dogs because i am obsessed i watch dog behaviour and training videos and read up on dogs until like 5-6 am every day it's very hard to go on without one

i am watching dog videos as i type this and it bothers me that i can't get one myself until i graduate and hopefully get approved by this breeder

Also bonus points for being an ancient-ass breed

I got a 40 gallon breeder tank for my mice. There was a sale at my local petco, and I got it 80 dollars off. The old cage was small and hard to clean, this one can be cleaned with a shop-vac, hooray.

However, after I bought it and realized how big it was, it got me thinking- What the fuck do I put in this thing? I need ideas for toys. Of course, I get 2 wheels, a few homes, large tubes, and milkbones/hanging milkbones for chews, but what else do mice like?

Also, it's pretty tall. Anyone know of a way to add multiple little levels so they can climb?

>>
>mice
Be sure to get some sort of airflow coming in from the top. Those tanks are not built to house mice comfortably.

As for the toys, mice are pretty easy to please. Get a wheel, something to climb on and something to hide in.

Also, get one of these for their water. They've worked for me way better than the standard drip bottles do.
>>
>>2175353
Make sure you have plenty of air flow, or the mice could end up overheating and dying.

If the tank is tall enough, then build a little multistory house for them.

Basically, get a cardboard box(like for shoes and stuff), cut some holes in it, and flip it upside down. Then get a smaller cardboard box and do the same, but this time put it on top of the other box and connect some tubes/ramps for the mice to climb up and down.

No animal skills here. I've been living in guam for a few months now and it's beautiful, except for the bloody drongo birds. Anytime I come within 100ft of one they start calling and diving at me. I've ignored them so far but now they are actually pecking the back of my head.

My temper is staining. How would you get wild birds to fuck off without killing them? I've already tried yelling, refusing to leave the area, and after the head picking, pegging them with rocks anytime they take off to start diving.

All its done is make them more cautious. Now they follow me from above at 50+ ft and wait for me to lose sight of them.

TLDR: Birds are being assholes and I want a non-lethsl way to make them stop.

regular walks + regular potty breaks + at least one big outing once a week

I have a ~25 pound corgi/border collie mix, and one smaller dog. I would highly recommend looking at medium sized mixed dogs. Personality wise, he's just like having a miniature big dog. I live in an apartment complex with lawns and stuff, if you live in a high rise then maybe not.

Apparently my cat has a heart murmur. We'll be taking her to a vet to get her checked out soon. How long do cats with heart murmurs usually live?

Ugh, I'm sorry for your cat. This is a question for a vet, so I'm glad you're going there soon. If you want to talk to a vet online about it that might help give you better information and options than 4chan. Do you know where to go for that?
>>
>>2174767
Fuck you and your spam
>>
Heart murmurs are really variable, and could just as like be nothing to worry about as indicative of a severe cardiac issue, like holes or malfunctioning valves. Definitely speak to your vet, but a low grade murmur isn't something to worry about.

And lifespan really does depend on the severity of the murmur, and what the murmur indicates. I've got a ten year old who's had a murmur since he was a nine week old kitten. He's always been in good health, except for urinary crystals that were sorted with a diet change and a dislocated toe. We actually forgot he had the murmur until he was seeing a new vet for his checkup about a year ago and they brought it up then found it in his notes.

Yeah, talk to your vet and ask how severe it is.
