You ever notice that it doesn't matter whether it's a plant you're eating originated from South America or a bird from Asia, we're able to digest and get nutrition from them all? I mean, can we literally eat almost anything living on Earth? Short of poisonous things of course.

Is there an explanation as to why we are able to consume such a wide variety of flora and fauna? If we literally just discovered a new species for the first time in human history, chances are,we'd be able to eat them. Heck, if we cloned dinosaurs, we'd be able to eat them too.
Am I the only one who's weirded out by this? Can our cells recognize other Earth based lifeforms somehow?

1. you can't digest most plants.
2. animals are all made out of the same thing.
>>
>>2174417
The DNA structure of the thing you're eating doesn't matter to your digestive system, as its function is to break down the thing you're eating and extract the building blocks from which it's made (nutrients, minerals, vitamins, etc).

Think of it as taking apart an old brick castle and reusing the materials to build something else entirely, like a school. Sure there'll be leftover material that was only useful in the context of the original building, but that can be thrown away.

Why is it that dogs wetter perfectly fine for hundreds, if not thousands of years without vets, but all of a sudden, dogs are mandated to have half a dozen vaccines (none of which they never needed), thousands of dollars of vetinary "care", and suddenly things like rawhide and bones are "bad" for dogs when they have literally never had an issue with it until recently?

Really makes you think.

Dogs are domesticated, so they always had us to protect them.....also, their life spans are shit without veterinary care, less than a third of what they are with it - If you have ever seen a dog with distemper or parvovirus, you can see why they need shots, that shit is brutal
So yes, they can survive with a shortened life span, but it won't be easy, and they will suffer for it
>>
Many dogs died of diseases or illness before veterinary care. Dogs are living longer and healthier lives.

Rawhide isn't bad for dogs, most vets recommend it as it can help clean teeth.

Need help, /an/.

I have a cat raised at home and he went to street about a year ago, a year old. when he came back 2 months ago he was extremely thin and was shaking, having hard time walking and focusing on something. We took him to local pro veterinarian, she said he is dehydrated and might have anemia. They took him and immediately started to give serum.

We left him there, after 3 weeks when we went back to check how he's doing , he was fully in despair instead of getting better, didn't gain any weight, we found him in his case just as we left there, his backside got severely toxicated because of urinal and poo acid, they didn't bother to clean it, couldn't stand up, we immediately took him away back to home and reported the vet of leaving the cat just they thought he was going to die.

He's getting worse now, we feed him by hands and with chicken liver for iron, giving couple of drops of multivitamin a day, some whiskas wet can meal and these all he can eat and all we can buy and give. His poo is getting slickier every day which I think is a good thing at least.

He cannot stand up, he can but its extremely hard for him to gather up.
He is about 3 ponds now at age 2, he eats a lot but we can't determine where the meal is going. his poo doesn't show any internal parasites, yet we still do medication for inner and outer parasites.

He cannot react in time to things passing across his eyes, for the last couple of days he started to react at extremely fast movement trials when we try to fond him or call his name. He suddenly Shines and falls after a second.

He is constantly sleeping, being not able to move out is a factor we think. He also just lies down eyes open lately.

What we can do now to get him better at home? We're afraid of getting him to another vet.

Pic related is him before going to vet.

All cats have it coming. Their entire lives are spent torturing countless insects, smaller mammals, and ruining most ecosystems they've been introduced into.

>let's cat "go to street" (?) for months

God Tier Breed

First post best post.
My rottie girl is smarter than most people's 5 year olds and is less than 6 months. Great hips, great teeth, and great agility. Almost a perfect specimen for the breed.
Easily could've been competition-quality but the only thing that made her pet-quality was the small amount of black fur in the tan spots on her paws.
Thanks for reading.

Yeah they appear very understanding of their surroundings and their owners feelings compared to other dogs.

Heres my female at 6 months old, she is on the light side of rottweilers (about 35kg) and I estimate she will only be about 45kg fully grown.

anyone ever take in a stray? i'm on a farm and city fags always seem to drive out here to dump their pets so i've seen quite a few over the years. we sometimes take in the strays and they often end up being some of the best pets we've ever had. some just end up running away and we never see them again and others we've had friends take or have had the local shelter come get them.

i don't like the shelter option partly because i know they'll end up sitting in a cramped cage for weeks or even months. i also know many of them will just end up being put down which i find pretty sickening.

just tonight we had a pretty young looking(year old tops) German Shepard show up at the door and she's been sleeping on my deck all night. she looks pretty healthy and hasn't been starved so obviously hasn't been out very long. pretty safe to assume she was dropped off and just went to the first house she could find.

i'm tempted to take her in but i already have 2 other dogs both of which are male and not neutered and i'd assume she isn't either so that's a bit of an issue. one of my dogs is also kinda aggressive so that's a pretty big concern. i also don't really want another but she's friendly enough that i'm sure as fuck not going to send her off to suffer in a shelter and most likely end up being killed anyway

Every dog I've ever owned is a stray that we have taken in and they are the best animals i could ask for.

Im not sure how you could really handle that situation unless you are fine with banding (another form of neutering, any questions just ask/google) your male dogs
>>
>>2174205
I'd say take her in, can't hurt to try. For what purpose are your dogs not neutered ?
>>
>>2174217
both male so there was no need. despite being on a farm they mostly stay in the house and are walked on a leash. both were also strays, one is a beagle and they of course like to run off hunting. the other is a german shepard who spent quite a bit of time out running with a pack of dogs(never managed to find them) before he came to us and if he gets out tends to also run off for half the day. he actually came back covered in bites once which we assume was coyotes(they have become an issue) so we try really hard to keep him home these days.

i'm gonna call around and see if any friends will take her but till then i'm trying to figure out the best way to take care of her. she's outside right now but i'd like to get her inside so she doesn't run off or get attacked by coyotes(large packs with no fear of humans) but like i said one of the dogs is kind of aggressive(the beagle) and i don't need them breeding either so i hesitate to bring her in

Just found it near my house amongst tall grass. Seems pretty clean, no remains of any kind -- only bone.

Just putting together a go bag for my dogs, we live on a fault line and we will be walking 6hrs through the city to my parents property in the event of an earthquake.

I already have -

Dog booties.
Harness and saddlebags
Collapsable bowl
Water
3 days of kibble and chews

Things to buy -

Muzzle
Rex specs
Ear protection
First Aid kit for dogs
Antihistamines to use as tranqs if needed

Is there anything I should add?

Not sure if you addressed this already but have you considered actual packs for your dogs so they can carry gear and supplies?
>>
>>2173945

Yeah that is the harness and saddle bags. But most of the gear will be in my frame pack, they will basically just carry kibble and water.

This sounds like it'd make a good movie.

Has anyone here ever watched an animal died a natural death in the wild? I mean we all lose cats and dogs, but we always see dead animals in the wild, but I never see them die until yesterday

>go to outdoor concert with gf yesterday
>walking into park
>out of fucking nowhere A squirrel from the sky
>THUD
>thing fucking suicided from a 50 foot tall palm tree
>some dumbass nearby runs over to some cops standing around
>"THAT SQUIRREL JUST FELL FROM THE TREE!"
>cop says "what do you want me to do, give it CPR?"
>we all stand around in a circle around the squirrel and contemplate existence momentarily
>gf is crying
>me and cop are laughing

Anyway... Anyone else experience anything like this?

I was walking my dog this morning in south Louisiana and I noticed this odd couple. What are they? Are the 2 different species that got stuck together or are trying to mate, or is it an extreme case of sexual dimorphism? Sorry for my potato phone camera.

I'm not even close to an expert on bugs and insects but maybe I can help give you direction.

The one with the orange band to me looks like a male velvet ant. I don't have a clue on the other but maybe it's a case of some kind of zombism. I know some wasps turn their prey into zombies to make it easier to bring them to the nest to feed on.
>>
>>2173743
It wasn't a velvet ant. I want to say it only had 2 segments, head and body
>>
I think the back one is a type of wasp and the other one a yellow jacket or something?

Anyone here makes homemade dog food ?

My pupper is not earing his regular chow anymore I would lile to try something "humid" and mix it to see if he starts eating again.

Thought of mixing chicken with potatoes, peas, carrots , rice and some olive oil

You should rotate flavors of kibble. I buy 12lbs bags and change flavors every 2 bags. Same brand, obviously.

What you have as an ideal is a good treat meal, but not nutritionally stable. Feeding a dog that long term would cause him to be defiecent in something.
>>
>>2173654
Try mixing gerber baby food chicken or beef flavor. It's really healthy and my pug goes crazy for it.
>>
>>2173654

WHAT THE FUCK IS WRONG WITH YOU!

Are you giving him treats aside from his food?

A dog wont starve himself, put the food down in the morning for 10 minutes, if he doesnt eat it, take it away. Do the same at night until he learns that chow time is chow time and you have to use it or lose it.

What brand of food are you feeding? Dogs do not need potatoes or rice. Feed him quarter of a raw chicken once in a while for his teeth and feed a quality kibble like Acana or Orijen.

If he is still not eating take him to the vet.

Seriously, its a DOG! Treating them as anything else is just for your own selfish reasons and abusive.
