Just a half hour ago I went to see if one of my cats was outside at night here so I could let him in, and I found him just chilling with this huge raccoon by the front of my house.

My cat is an orange maine coon who is usually an ass to other cats and animals (as in, he prefers to be alone and away from them, or else he'll growl and maybe slap em' but nothing really serious). Yet, my cat didn't really do anything when this raccoon was here. He was just chilling and watching him, not even showing any aggression or anything. The raccoon wasn't even aggressive either, just wandering around and brushing up near my cat and coming up close to my door when it saw me (and then it turned around and walked away all casual-like right after).

Why didn't my cat and the raccoon feel threatened by each other? Were they being friendly, did they think one was the same animal as them?

Pic isn't my cat obviously.

Raccoons can be scavengers. It's hanging around your outside cat so that when it dies prematurely it can eat the carcass.

I wasn't sure where to ask this-here or /adv/, but I figured since it's more about an animal, this is probably more appropriate.

I had a dream last night and I'm not sure how to interpret it.

In the dream I had a young owl. Not a baby, but still very young. It was brown with white edges on it's feathers and very beautiful, a very light brown, almost gold. I remember being almost infuriated with how pretty and cute it was and I kept going back to pet it. It was also very friendly and watched me wherever I went and didn't mind at all when I picked it up into my lap.

So that's all I can remember from the dream. Google is showing a lot of bad symbolism with owls, but it was a good dream and felt very comforting and happy.

Infatuated*

not infuriated, damn auto correct
>>
Dream symbolism stuff is pretty bogus. yeah dreams can be symbolic but you have to take it on a personal level. Dreams come from -your- brain, not some collective unconscious. And even if they did, things have different meaning across cultures. Everything means different stuff depending on who you ask.

Interpret your dreams personally. Enjoy your owl dreams and don't trust stuff that claims to know what your dreams mean. Only you can judge that, and you can only judge it for yourself.

I think you're better off asking /x/.

Poop.
Poop everywhere.
>>
>>2213979

Do you own a pond? Do you own a decent sized outside space to keep them?

They're wild animals. Unless you rear them from hatch, then they're highly unlikely to actually want human physical contact with you- and the the anon is correct, I highly doubt you'll ever toilet train a duck, so expect them to just poo everywhere.

Afraid it's not the best of ideas- but if you have a garden with some water outside, then they'd be a nice feature to look at and duck eggs are delicious. Be aware you'll need to fox proof any house for them.

I was hanging around with my buddies dog today, a large poodle, probably close to 60-70 pounds. Had some spareribs on my plate and the dog got to them- probably swallowed 1-2 of the small bones. Round bones, no sharp points, probably 1" in diameter, 2-3" circumference. These aren't the long ribs, but more like the ones on the meat pictured.

Walked the dog for a bit, didnt seem to be in any discomfort- gave it some water and it seems like it is doing fine.

Am i freaking out over nothing? I feel like I really did somethin bad here by letting the dog get to the bones. Can large dogs pass small bones like this just fine?

plz no bully, im actually kind of upset about this

You have to dig through his poop to make sure he expelled them.
Otherwise you'll have to take him to the vet.
>>
He'll be fine.
>>
>>2213914

It's not an ideal situation.

Monitor the dog for the next twenty four hours for vomiting, any loss of appetite, abdominal pain, dehydration or diarrhea (with or without blood). If any of those occur I'd strongly advise taking the dog to the vets as the bone might be stuck.

In the future, NEVER give dogs cooked or uncooked bones.

We have a textured wall it was on and when I tried to get it to run in the cup by moving the cup I guess its legs got caught between the cup and the wall.

Is it a bad idea to get a dog?

When I was younger my family had 2 dogs, i really like dogs in general, but I'm not sure if I can make a dog happy.

I work 7 hours a day (right exactly were i live, but i still can't be hanging out with a dog while working), then spend an hour or so in the gym and then other 3 hours working somewhere else, I also try to study atleast 1 hour a day.

I have a pretty big yard but I don't want to raise a dog and only play with it on weekends, what do you guys think?

No, don't get a dog. 7 aways away ok sure some dogs are ok with it, especially old ones. But on top of your other hours you spend fuck no. Dont bother. You would have to change your schedule a lot to not rely on a dog being there just for when you think it's convenient. If you can't change then don't put that on them. Exceptions are with if you dont live alone(and you are not forcing responsibility on someone else) and/or can afford doggy daycare shit.
>>
>>2213815
Yeah, just what I thought

It's just that I'll be really lonely this year and I often see puppers abandoned on the side of the road. It's not like I know a lot about dogs though, I'll probably be a bad owner.

Should I get a low manteniance pet? like a fish or something?

Elk bugling is fucking horrifying. Up close fine but hearing that shit on a foggy almost silent sunrise in the distance is terrifying. The only solace I got was knowing it was a goddamn deer and some some fucked up silent hill manifestation. Between rabbits screaming, owls, coyotes, wolves, cougars in heat, etc these fuckers sound so haunting. I'd piss myself if lived somewhere and I heard that shit right outside my house.

It's so haunting especially to hear in the distance. It sounds so painful. 2spooky4me.

Hey, recent grad here, long-time snake enthusiast and reptile keeper. Ask me anything about snake care, identification (Pacific Northwest is my specialty), how-to, cage building, anything.

Just to get common questions out of the way:

1. Yes I am a recent grad. I have experience in field work, as well as laboratory work. I want to work on snake venom proteins for use in Alzheimer's research.

2. I keep Western hognose, reticulated pythons, kenyan sand boas, red-tailed boas (he's a mutt, not sure if constrictor or imperator, might be a mix of both), and royal pythons.

3. If you don't know what it is, don't touch it or harass it.

I started my lawnmower and decapitated a snake
I panicked and threw the moving body into the neighbor's yard and then their dog ate it

I just heard them this evening talking about taking the dog to the vet because their dog has been ill

Did I give the neighbor's dog my autism?

My pupper has very sharp teeth and likes to bite people. She is rottweiler/german sheppard and I dont want her to be dangerous when older

How do I stop her from biting?
45 posts and 1 images submitted.
>>
There are two popular options to train "bite inhibition" in puppies:

1) When she bites you, punt her across the room. She will learn quickly.
2) When she bites you, yelp in a loud pitch, turn your back on her, and ignore her for a minute or two.

Either option is viable.
>>
>>2213698
As soon as she bites, completely ignore her. Don't even acknowledge her until she calms down. Giving her a chew toy before you ignore her may help too.
>>
