Can we agree that in general, animals are pretty dumb, much dumber than humans think them to be, and that we too often try to read some deeper meaning into something that is simple instinctive behaviour?

Animals are dumb. There's no one denying that. But you have to think of animal intelligence in the context of their brains being smaller and less developed than ours.
Despite that, they can do very intelligent things and learn quickly for something with brains that size.
Look at a Border Collie trained to follow commands and herd animals. It's extremely impressive, showing how smart they are. But at the end of the day, they're still dogs that lick assholes and sniff their poop.

>But at the end of the day, they're still dogs that lick assholes and sniff their poop.
yeah but the reason we have an aversion to licking assholes is because we get sick if we do it. we don't sniff our poop because there's nothing really for us to learn from it. i wholeheartedly believe that if dogs had a canine intellect with logical and reasoning capacities similar to the average human, they would still be licking assholes and sniffing poop because those are behaviors which serve a purpose to them.

I love animals and biology in general. Always had really high grades on anything related to biology and also anything related to languages. I ended up on an I.T. graduation though.

Even though I like computers, I´m unhappy with my graduation and the professions I can have when I graduate. So I´m planning to change to biology.

Is it woth it? I think I´ll love all about it as I always did, but does it provide enough money to have a good life (I don´t want to be rich, just not want to have many worries)? Also, is it easy to get a master´s/Phd degree to work as a teacher?

What type of animal owners are the worst?
My vote is for cats and horses, but retarded doggo owners can be pretty bad too.

If this thread is going to devolve into a shitstorm can it least be about the owners themselves and not about whatever it is the animals do?

A few weeks ago I posted about this hoping I could get some advice on this but nothing I've tried is working. I took in a dog my sisters ex-husband had since it was a puppy. She lived her whole life outside with two other female dogs who were not spayed. She's around 4 years old right now.
Well we've had some problems with her, mostly shes aggressive with our other dog, she doesn't attack him but growls whenever she is near him or even smells him. We've been slowly work on that though but not much has changed. The other problem is she tries to mark in the house. she goes around trying to pee everywhere. I take her for two one hour walks everyday, I constantly praise her when she goes outside and stop her in the act but it hasn't worked.
I gave her to a friend who wanted her because we thought it might be because there was another dog in the house and he doesn't have one but she still marked and even pooped constantly in his house so he just gave her back.
I'm not really sure what to do with her I've already spent a lot of my money getting her every thing she needs so I can't take her to a trainer at the moment is there any thing I could do or is she a lost cause?

Enzyme cleaners where she pees and doggy diapers. Give her a stern "no" and completely ignore her existence after she pees inside for a few minutes
>>
I have heard many people suggest to start keeping a journal of the exact time the dog has an accident, and begin to take the dog outside according to their schedule. I have never had too much of an issue housebreaking adult dogs, but I've read many people having a lot of success with this.

If she sleeps indoors, you could also begin to crate train her as well. Let her sleep in the crate and outdoors for potty literally first thing in the morning.

Have you spayed her yet, btw?

I take her outside constantly but even after i take her out and she pees, the first thing she does is try to pee inside
Yeah we bought her some diapers but I'm not its going to solve anything. No we took her to out vet but they want to wait until after her next heat cycle to get her spayed.

Looking at Longisquama, I personally don't see how this creature could NOT be the common ancestor of birds and pterosaurs to the exclusion of dinosaurs. The skull is very similar to both Archaeopteryx and primitive pterosaurs like Sordes and has an antorbital fenestra, while the skulls of early dinosaurs like Herrerasaurus are already bulky, more similar to Postosuchus and other crocodylomorphs. That doesn't even account for the light build and feather-like structures similar to the earliest birds and pterosaurs. What do you think /an/?

I think you're just being a contrarian.
Your skull argument isn't evidence for anything, considering there's about 60-70 million years between Herrerasaurus and the first birds, and convergent is a thing.
Non avian dinosaurs also have antorbital fenestra, I'm not even sure why you brought that up.
The structures don't resemble feathers, pycnofibres or wing membranes any more than Coelurosauravus or bat wings do, again it's merely convergent evolution, assuming they were even used for gliding.
Disregarding all that, do you have any other evidence that birds have a more recent common ancestor with pterosaurs than dinosaurs? All the evidence seems stacked against you.
>>
>>2214505
I think that when you look at it, it can't possibly be anything but quetzalcoatlus, the mesoamerican creator and culture hero, and that it represents the alien ancestor of the lizard people who have been ruling this socieity since the beginning!
>>
>>2214806
Pterosaurs have hollow bones and feather-like pycnofibers. Primitive birds like Yi qi also have wing membranes. This may also imply that birds are the result of hybrid speciation between maniraptorans and pterosaurs. Given that archosaurs have a slow rate of chromosome and DNA evolution compared to mammals and squamates, it wouldn't surprise me if the teo could form a viable if not completely fertile hybrid.

Why are so many dog owners like this? Why do they expect world protect their poorly trained animal?
Is there an issue with lack of personal responsibility among pet owners these days?

It's cat owners too. They act upset when their cat gets run over. If you don't want your animal run over then don't let it run in the fucking road, it's common sense.

At least you pulled over, a lot of people wouldn't have done that.

Praying mantis. Hermit crabs aren't really suited for captivity. They are (almost?) never bred because of their larval stage and usually don't live very long in captivity despite them being able to reach ages of 20 years.

Praying mantids however are frequently bred and the common species are piss-easy to keep.

Or a cat guy as it were.

I started out with 1 cat. Only one I swear. But I'm on good terms with my neighbor, and our fence is full of holes, so their young cats started walking in my backyard too playing with my kitten. Maybe I should've shooed them away instead of petting them once in a while and giving them some food.
At first it was just two cats. Cute, right? Kittens. Then it was three cats. Four cats. I'm at five cats now. I don't even know where this fifth one came from! I thought they'd eventually leave and go back to the neighbor, but they are keeping my porch and backyard firmly under occupation.

How long do you reckon it takes until I become known as "that weird guy with half a dozen cats" or somebody calls me a cat hoarder? What am I supposed to do?

Make sure they're fixed. You can drag them to a vet or shelter to find out- many places do free or very cheap spay/neuters for feral cats. If they don't get fixed, that 5 is going to turn into 30.

If you like them, keep them. 5 is pretty crazy but definitely not hoarding. Talk to your neighbor or try to find them homes. Or just stop feeding them.
>>
>>2214335
If you let them live outside, they're not your pets anyway. They are just strays that you happen to feed.

Every single day this fatass meows loudly at nothing. It goes on for awhile and it's irritating and it drives me nuts. Normally, she doesn't make any noise when she meows, but for some reason she does when she's wailing like this and it's LOUD
My stepmother suggested that she might be lonely or something, but there's only three hours a day when someone isn't awake to give her attention, and she does this many times throughout the day. What do I do about this? I'd very much like it to stop, especially since my crazy cat lady stepmother answers to her EVERY meow even when she's across the house and it drives everyone insane. pls help

I found just found kitten in my land 20 minutes ago. He's covered in flies. He is blind since his eyes are completely covered with dry mucus. He can no longer walk or move at all. He's still breathing and tries to meow but no sound comes out. He is no longer capable of drinking or eating.

Someone please tell me how can I quickly put him out of his misery. I cant stand to know he is suffering for god knows how long. Dont tell me to take him to a vet. I live in a small village and I have no car license.

Pic isnt him obviously. He's in far worse condition.
