Hi /an/
I'm from /k/, /tv/, and /sp/
Is there any reason I should NOT get a German Shepard pupper?

I'm looking for a loyal, intelligent, defense dog.

I'm currently in the process of figuring everything out before I get my first dog, and I'm wondering if there are some good toys that will wear him out when I'm not able to take him for walks. He's going to be quite large.

>if there are some good toys that will wear him out
Nope. You gotta walk and play with him to wear him out. He's not gonna wear himself out, you stupid mobilefag.

Get a low-energy dog like a pug or something. But even then you have to exercise them a decent bit to prevent obesity, among other things like washing their face daily.
>>
>>2215335
I can exercise him plenty, just not EVERY day.

Plus, I'm totally an iPad fag, which is in a whole other league faggot.
>>
>>2215349
Training is a great way to exhaust your dog. A really good, 10 minute training session can go a long way exhausting him. Start with basic obedience, then work up to tricks. After that, you can play Simon Says, and challenge him to do as many back to back commands as possible.

Flirt poles are amazing too. They are basically a giant cat toy. You make your dog sit/down, and then give him the take it command and let him chase it. It is important you let him get the toy after a bit becausw that is a reward for him. After that, give him the drop it command and repeat. They are awesome for intense exercise in a small amount of time, and reinforcing obidence.

Puzzle toys are also super effective. Kongs are a life saver. Learn different ways to stuff one to give your dog challenges, but remember to work up. There are also tons of puzzle feeders too. These are things like wobble bowls and shaggy mats that force your dog to work for his meal. Most dogs love working for their meals, and find puzzle feeders a blast.

As a general rule, if you cannot exercise him, stimulating his mind is the next best thing.

And one last thing: you should aim to walk your dog every day, preferably twice a day. Walks are mental stimulation as much as they are exercise, so do your best to anticipate always one walk a day.

Long story short:
I moved in with my grandmother because she is too old to take care of herself, before moving in with her my dog used to love me and now it kinda lost interest in me, since I work 8 hours a day, what to do to get the dog interested in me again?

I got home from work and I had noticed the skin on my axolotls had started peeling off. I took one to the store too see if they could help but they had no idea what an axolotl was and said they couldn't help me. I tried looking online but couldn't find much. Does anyone here know what this is and what I can do to help them?

Hello famalams, I'm considering getting a cat, and had a few questions. Is a studio apartment too small for a indoor cat? Any breed recommended for minimal shedding? How nasty is the poo box going to be?

Studio is fine. They like climbing so get a cat tree.

get a shorthaired, dark cat- no white long fur no matter how cute it is. My girl barely sheds.

The litter box isn't bad but you have to clean it everyday. I recommend the tidycats breeze, that's what i have

Alright I have to get this off my chest. Its okay if the thread is deleted for non-relevance. Its just that I visit here from time to time and it feels animal related, and I got no one else to yak to.

Let's just call it 'creepy animal stories'.

Two weeks ago a neighbor of mine died. We weren't familiar. Like me, he was getting old and in poor health, and we both rent small units in an apartment building. The building is, frankly, a hovel at best.

It was a week before the body was noticed from the dreadful smell. On the day it was discovered, I noticed a small white worm on my carpet determinedly approaching me on my easy chair. I scooped it up, unable to identify it, and let it outside.

As I left my unit, I noticed many of them in the hallway, dead. Later I would learn it was a maggot from the corpse two units down.

All the maggots died... except the one coming directly for me.

The body was removed, the room sanitized and it was assumed all the maggots were gone.

Then this week, a sudden plague of green-bottle flies appeared in the building. While most are now gone, a few remain.

And presently, one is buzzing around my ceiling light.

I am trying to reconcile that a bit of my dead neighbor is hovering above me, looking for a way out that it will not likely find.

Now goddammit I am not a superstitious person, but this shit has been quietly freaking me out.

Thanks for hearing me out. If you have similar experiences, I guess this is the chance to share them. I know its a slow board, so I promise to be back tomorrow night to read.

Creepy animal vids, stories etc. I have one other myself.

So this other story was shared here some years ago. I don't remember particulars, but it was about an elderly woman suffering dementia, and was living with her adult daughter in the country.

Anyways, there were magpies, I think it was, that romped the trees around the house. The elderly mother, having dementia, would often throw open the window and call for her sister, Susie. Except Susie had been dead for many years. This apparently happened often, the mother calling for her dead sister, "Suuuuuuusie,.... Suuuuuuusie....."

In later years, the mother passed, but the daughter stayed in the home. Eventually she noticed voices outside, specifically, her mother's.

And for a long time after, from the trees where the magpies perched, she would still hear her mother's voice still calling-

"Suuuuusie........ Suuuuuusie........"

This story starts like all ghost stories with "I DONT BELIEVE IN GHOSTS BUUUUT"

>Dont believe in ghosts, buuuuut
>Two friends and myself go out to the Bisti Badlands. Pic related.
>Its an ancient and dead land. Sacred to native americans
>Like no life. Too harsh. A couple dead bushes and maybe a crow and a couple lizards. About a two hour drive from any civilization
>We go camping, bring a backpack full of sticks for a fire because there's nothing out there to burn
>We make camp, start our pathetic little fire when it gets dark, and start sipping on our flasks, talking and having a good time
>After a bit someone says 'You hear that?' and we all go quiet
>Faint, distant chattering noise
>Huh.. weird
>We forget about it for a few minutes
>It gets louder
>Listen again
>Say "Oh! I know what that is! It's coyote chatter!"
>We shrug it off
>Until it gets damn close
>Like holy shit what ever it is is right there around the hoodoos
>We all freeze, shut up, and look that direction
>Three coyotes come out of the dark, chattering and warbling constantly to each other
>With no regards to the three petrified guys or the little fire, weave their way between us and the fire without breaking their stride or their conversation
>Like you can reach out and pet them without moving
>Not that we did
>Watch them move back out of the fire light
>Hear them scramble down into the arroyos
>Their warbling gradually fades into the distance
>"What the fuck? Did that just happen?"
>"Dude, coyotes are terrified of people.."
>"And fire!"
>Quietly buzz about it before going to bed

It was so fucking bizarre. It's a strange, spiritual land. They were probably skin walkers letting us know we were being watched and making sure we were respecting the land. Or just weird coyotes but holy shit man. Holy shit.

>'doesn't need collar'
No dog needs a collar, but it's still a good fucking idea for other people
>25 seconds in, petsmart employee trying to yell at him to not walk by the dogs with their dogs, guy walks through anyways no fucks given
>he has his dogs go up and sniff other owner's dogs while the owners were not paying attention
>REAL AGGRESSION but the dog wasn't showing signs of aggression (snarling, growling, stiffness) but of excitement to do what it's trained to do (attack)
>"healing"
>dog will attack by someone just looking like they will touch the owner
>bites anything getting close to a car window
>(((bluenose pit bull)))
>'best kids nanny dog'
I have to admit though, that dog is incredibly well trained

From what I understood they wait for a command to attack.
>>
That video actually really impressed me, besides the music. So cute the way they look so expectantly at the owner.
>>
>https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PKRP3wIFXYA
I swear this guy's entire channel is about having his dog aggressive dog meet stranger's dogs.
>introduce dogs on GSD's property
>proclaimed 'guard' gsd
>Don't have a leash for GSD
>the guy has to keep yelling 'no fighting'
>he puts his hand in-between while the dogs are still unsure of each other
>dogs are at a stand-off, no one notices/cares
>he disciplines his dog for giving the other dog a warning
>guy hits his dog in mid fight
>neither owner had control over their dog

I don't know if his dog actually starts the fight, or only instigates it and makes the situation more tense. But the guy keeps telling everyone this dog is fine with other dogs, when in at least half of his videos the end result was unfavorable or he couldn't even let his dog off the leash. He's got a few more where the dog gets into fights or attacks/is attacked by other dogs.

You hear of all those animal rescue services, I wish there were more that took strays from high-cat areas and shipped them to areas with high vermin problems, instead of the government just poisoning the cats.
