crocodile thread pls
Is that the crock from Lake Placid? Did he get loose again?
Just look at this animal, it truly is a modern dinosaur.

>modern dinosaur
Incorrect.
Pic related is a modern dinosaur.
A week ago I adopted an about 2-month-old stray puppy my boss found under his truck. She has mange and I've already taken her to the vet. I am washing her daily and giving her medicine. It seems like it has seen some shit, always trying to be alone and having a sad look in its eyes. When I've tried to bond with it, it seems to like it and has cried if I left her side.
>Basically I wanna know if this can be something permanent or will she chill out soon and what can I do to help her feel better?
She's sleeping in a corner of my room as I type. She did not react to me coming home nor did she want to be touched. She just kinda moved away from my hands.
pic kinda related
>>2209539
How long have you had her?
>>2209539
sounds like separation anxiety. it's normal at that age. plus if she has been abused it's going to take some extra work to get her adjusted but it's something that will become more manageable over time. do you have any pics of her? she sounds adorable
>>2209539
Looks like you're going to have to be patient with her. Start small, like giving her tiny bits of treats when she comes when you call, and praise her for letting you touch her.
You're also going to want to teach her that when you leave, she can't bring you back by crying. Don't give in, no matter how pitiful she gets. She has to learn that when you leave, you'll still be back.
Try giving her something like a puzzle toy (has to work at it to get a treat) when you're gone to keep her occupied.
Also, seconded pics.
Dog keeps do this what do?
>inb4 kill; get rid of it
Exercise dog till exhausted daily and be home more if possible
A bored dog is a destructive dog.
More exercise/playtime.
Its diet lacks calcium so it's trying to get it from the gypsum in your drywall.
Black Widow wrapping a May Beetle in silk
I've probably killed eight of those fuckers in the last two weeks.

I don't get why you people even come to /an/. There are other boards which cater better to your interests.
>>2209489
I try not to kill them unless I see them just walking through my house. They are really good at keeping pests away.
I do keep my covereds clean though-don't want to stick my hand in to grab some food and get a nasty bite.
What is this strange creature?
7" long by 1" wide.

You're fucked kid.

Someone on Ebay is selling a stuffed 'golden retriever' mount. What does /an/ think of this?
http://www.ebay.com/itm/Taxidermy-dog-rare-oddity-golden-retriever-mount-/322250142652?hash=item4b079af3bc:g:HwsAAOSwU-pXtgJP
How do you guys feel about people getting their pets stuffed once they die?
I kind of like the idea of being able to preserve the pet, making it look like it's still alive. But I'll admit, i'd probably feel pretty sad from time to time knowing that my own pet has passed on. But in general, I personally admire the art of good taxidermy.
I don't approve of killing an animal for this purpose but if an animal is already dead I suppose I don't see the harm in having its body stuffed.
Jeremy Bentham was stuffed, sort of.

I stuff ur mum last night :3
I mean I guess there's no inherent issue with it, but it's nothing I'd ever do, and I think people who do it are a little creepy, but that's me.
Like imagine raising and growing up with a dog, looking into its eyes while your chilling on the couch, petting it, playing with it, all that stuff, and then after it dies, you get to look at the cold, lifeless hide from its corpse stretched over a canvas every day. Like, after all these years, you've bonded with the dog and gotten to know all the little odd physiological quirks it has, a taxidermy job could never capture all the little things that really make your dog familiar to you, the uncanny valley shit would just put me off wayyy too much.
So, I was sitting outside smoking when a fox came up to me, step by step he came closer (rapidly) and I (forcefully) shushed him away thinking there is something wrong here.
There was no visual scab (missing fur) on the fox or anything but I felt danger...
Was this just an curious fox or is there something that draws sick foxes to people? Like foxes with rabies FROM water?
(pic related, a fox)
>>2209259
probably in an urban area, right?
he might come for food left by humans and might even have been fed in the past
nevermind this post, I just went outside for a smoke again and this time I didn't see a werewolf but a curious baby fox the size of a housecat.

when I say rural I mean, 4k ppl and in the outskirts
Where's does the stereotype of witches having cats come from? I like dogs.
>>2209223
I imagine cats have probably been historically linked with witches because they were thought to be demonic.
Other animals that Christians believed to be evil include snakes, bats, and owls.
"Evil" animals were sometimes killed in times of sickness and plagues, which was ironically counterproductive because all these animals happen to prey upon disease-causing vermin.
Every now and then, cats also have a "crazy time," where they'll whip around and run about for no reason while looking wide-eyed and frightened, which made some people theorize they could see ghosts, further linking them with the paranormal.
There was also the belief that witches could transform into a cat 9 times before permanently being stuck as a cat. Likely where the "cats have 9 lives" thing originated.
>>2209594
No, cats having nine lives originated from the same place that cats always landing on their feet did.
This is because cats have a very flexible spine, they can twist their entire bodies around in mid air, greatly increasing their chances of landing on their feet. Which greatly increases their chances of surviving a fall from a great height.
It's a lot easier to recover from a broken leg than it is to recover from a broken spine.
It's also really awesome to watch in slow motion.
Title says it all. Can't get him to eat anything. He did eat a little piece of tuba and some pumpkin baby food earlier, now he's refusing anything.
Went to the vet Saturday, got a full work-up. Ver said it may be kidney failure but he's too dehydrated to tell (he was eating less and less since last Wednesday) so he wants him to come back every 3 or 4 days for 2 weeks for fluids. Also on his X-ray it looked like he had something (vet said maybe a piece if bone because of it's opacity) in his colon but it had already travelled all the way through everything else and vet said he should pass it. He hasn't pooped yet though.
I'm worried about liver damage at this point and I don't like forcing him to eat. He'll sniff at food but won't eat it.
I don't know what else to try and any suggestions would help. Tried tuna/tuna juice, Friskies salmon, turkey vegetable baby food, pumpkin baby food, I And Love And You chicken flavor pâté, and his favorite treat vanilla pudding. Can't get him to really eat any of these, he'll lick a little and then get irritated.
Pic is Horatio in better days. Sorry bad phone camera.
>>2209220
>He did eat a little piece of tuba
Have you considered switching from his diet of brass instruments to something like woodwind?
OP here he does have a vet appt tomorrow.
Don't feed him anything starchy, salty or sugary. That's probably why he might have kidney failure.
Give him boiled chicken and that's it. Also, you can give your cat sub-q fluids at home. Just have the vet show you how.
Realistically, who high are the chances of a dog getting Parvo or something else from going outside without all their shots?
It seems like you can either have a healthy, normal puppy from proper socialization at a young age, or keep him locked inside until fully vaccinated and miss that critical window.
What do?
If you get your pup from a reputable breeder then the pup will have been properly socalized before you get it. Breeders actually have people come to their house to play with puppies.
>>2209156
I think it may also boil down to whether or not it's work the risk. It can easily be fatal and often is, and even if it makes it its still suffering. Sixteen weeks is not very old at all. If we were talking months then yeah I can see the hesitation. Your dog will not be ruined for life if you wait. If it has at least started the shots then I might be more flexible, but not with other puppies.
You dont have to keep it locked inside. It can enjoy your yard and a walk. Most dogs that get parvo is from the place or breeder they got it from. You hear it all the time, someone adopted a new puppy or got one and it has parvo. It's very serious but be smart about it and it should be fine unless it came with it and you aren't introducing it into other dogs(especially young ones and puppies). If anything with older dogs, YOUR dog is the risk.
>>2209179
So what about taking it hiking on trails or visiting friends with other dogs? My friends dogs are all vaccinated. I want to socialize with them and they all bring their dogs on the hiking trails together. It's a great way to socialize and get exercise.
What is /an/'s position on Big Game Hunting?
Here is a 12 year old who hunts giraffes, zebras, and other African beasts:

Piers Morgan asked her "How would you feel if I killed your pet cat?"

>Piers the gunbotherer Morgan
Do you know the differnce between propaganda and truth?
Hes about banning self defence guns for the vulnerable, banning big game hunting is just a vehicle for that.
Furthermore hes trying to draw a link in your mind between endangered species and hunting where there is none. Gun owners dont hunt endangered species, the majority of gun owners dont hunt atall and get squeemish about it, just ask /k/.
I could say more but thats enough for now.
>>2209154
Good for her. I bet everything bit of meat was used.
I get people being pissed when it is rhinos or whatever, but for some reason the general public seems to hate this because they think all large african animals are endangered.
Do you know if there is a sustitute of hay?
It is impossible to get in in my country and I want to get a good feed my guinea pigs
Also do you know about any diet that is good for them?
I use marijuana
Where do you live that it's impossible to get hay? I'm just curious because hay is so common in my country.

I actually live in Mexico, a time ago I was in USA but i moved here and i can`t get it
Is this the most alien-looking place on planet Earth? What are some other bizarre-looking locations?

Joshua Tree National Park
Bolivian Salt Flats
Death Valley
Would you abuse an animal if you could get away with it?
Nah.
>>2208989
Nah. I'll snap the neck of a cat though. I don't consider that abuse, I consider that humanely putting a pest down
I have before when upset or mentally fucked, it's something I'm not proud of.....
Are hippos gentle giants?
Yeah they'll let you walk right up and hug them and then they'll kill you.
I think I would rather take my chances with crocodiles.
>>2208982
Like elephants, they aren't necessarily prone to aggression *when on friendly terms*. For instance, zoo keepers can train them to voluntarily open their mouths so they can work on their teeth without putting up a fuss (zoo keeper stands behind hefty metal gate when doing this though). However, and it's a big however, they are extremely territorial and will kill you dead real bad if you're in their territory or they decide you're a threat to themselves or their young or they decide they don't like you. Wild hippos are responsible for the most number of large mammal on human deaths in africa.
