My dog went blind about a year or two ago. I live in Canada and was contacted about a dog down south in San Bernardino in a high kill shelter who was to be put down last week but an activist got a hold put on it. The dog is an absolute cutey, happy with others, and if I don't adopt him he'll be put down.
I would love to have him, but my sole concern is how my dog will take it.
My dog is 9, and this dog is 4. Both male, both fixed, both are medium sized Spitz (Schiperke and this new one is a small Shepard).
Has anyone introduced a new dog into a house with a blind dog? I'm concerned about stressing him out but at the same time I can't stand the thought of knowing I let this new dog be euthanized.
Pic related, the new dog

And here is my current doggo
I have no experience with blind dogs but my suggestion would be to separate them at first. Put the new dog in a place the blind dog doesn't usually go (so you're not making a drastic change to the blind dog's mental layout of the house). Let the blind dog get used to the smell and sounds of the new dog. Maybe let them meet each other through a gate. Barrier frustration would be a pain but I feel like it's important to keep it slow, at least at first.
Even if things end up not working out, you've saved a dog from death row. You can find him another home if need be.

Hey op
My friend has a blind dog.
She's old (14 now)
They got a new dog for her son.
Now the blind dog relys on the new dog. I took the new dog to the vet and she had to stay there overnight, blind dog was tripping out all night.
I think blind dog feels more secure when new dog alerts on visitors and such.
Also easier for blind dog to move around the backyard when she can hear new dog in a specific spot.
When you go to San Bernardino, stop off and see the beach in Malibu.
I was thinking of getting a raven, because they're big and pretty damn smart. Do they make good pets? Are they loud? And how hard would it be to obtain a white one like pic related?
Albinos are a super rare deformity among any species, so not likely at all.
Ravens are as expensive as a hawk to care for. They require an aviary for space, constant attention, and an appropriate diet. These birds are fairly intelligent and are very destructive when lonesome or unoccupied. Getting one is not advised if you can't afford the bird or its much needed time.
Captive breed ravens can expect to fetch a price of a few thousand starting, but may only be acquired through federally approved handlers since they're a protected species.

So what kind of bird would you recommend that is large, smart, quiet, and can be kept in a cage?
>>2216055
>large
>can be kept in a cage
Pick one.
Also
>smart
>quiet
Also pick one. These tend to not go hand in hand.

this board bitches about outdoor cats killing wildlife but nobody insists on keeping the Chinese indoors.
public service announcement: if you or someone you know has chinks, keep them inside.
Those mice are clearly American spies and they're being interrogated. The one on the right's keeping its composure but the one on the left will probably rat him out.
What do you guys think about naming pets after Gods of old? Like Egyptian, Greek, Mayan, etc.
Is it disrespectful?
>>2215957
Nah, not at all. Choose the name you feel is right for your pet.
I think it's disrespectful to the poor retarded people that believe in gods. It's like you're making fun of them for being retarded.

>naming pets after Gods of old

Don't be mean to neopagans dude. Also why does atheism seem to always come with a side of disrespect and smugness?
Found in Southern California, laying dead in my backyard. My dog promptly ate it...
I looked online but I could only find carolina tiger beetle but I don't think that is it, as the legs are different color and it doesn't have the yellowish line around the wings

What's your opinion on lawns?
Are they a waste of water, time, or money for pointless ideal and homogeneity?
>>2215922
They're visually pretty nice, although personally I think at least some wild overgrown grass should be left. Not sure how a lawn is a waste of money though, all you have to do is mow it regularly?
>>2215922
What else could my dogs play on?
>>2216223
Artificial grass is superior to real grass.
In a geology class we are required to do a 5-10 minute presentation on anything geology related. I don't know to much about geology but we are required to cite a reference book and audio/visual source. Is there anything with a lot of information about it that is rather interesting?
Some of the examples were like tectonics, blood diamonds, the Himalayas, alps, black holes, hubble telescope. Those are some of the examples
>>2215804
Do a presentation with just slides of pretty minerals in the style of /v/'s angry geologist anon. Scream everything.
>>2215804
Isn't to be mean, but you should question this in /sci/, weeks ago they had a nice mineral thread

Fucking magnets, how do they work?
What language do crows think in?
Those fuckers are smart as fuck, they can plan shit out multiple steps at a time and they can use tools to help them get what they want.

If I had to be an animal I'd be a crow.
One thing I've learned is that you don't want to mess with crows.
The next time you know it your wallet is gone!
I never thought about what an animal sounds like to itself when thinking. Do dogs think in barks, birds in chirps/caws/screaming? Or it is all visual?
>>2215653
I don't even know how that works in humans. It's very often that you have a meaning/feeling and you're searching for the proper word to express it.
>Daily reminder that if you don't have an Airedale Terrier you don't know what it feels like to own the best breed ever.

When is it time to put a pet down, /an/?
It's never easy to deal with, but my dog's rear legs are starting to go and I know there will be the point where he regularly shits in the house because his muscles are weakening that much. What do you look for in quality vs longevity? I don't want the pup to suffer, but don't want to cheat him out of an enjoyable life. What do?

I have one that's 18...mostly deaf, a
few teeth, and 85 percent blind due to old age. He's also senile imo.
He still gets around mostly ok except for stairs and darkness. He still lets us know when needs to go out.
I will have him put to sleep when he can no longer get around the house on his own or can't manage his bodily functions. I take him to the vet fairly regularly and other than his old age issues he's healthy and not in any pain. I just have to keep a close eye on him outside because he will get confused and blindly wander off. I know the day is coming when he will have to be put down and I dread it. I'll do it when it's time though. I think you will know the right time with your dog as well.
>>2215618
I've had to put down 2 of my dogs over the years because of old age related hip dislocations. I live on a 38 acres so my dogs were inside outside dogs. Both hip dislocations with my dogs happened while they were outside and because of their size and dislocated hips I was unable to get them loaded comfortably into the car and get them to the vet. They couldn't walk or stand at all, would scream when I tried to move them. Omg, it was so sad and awful when it happened.
I had to put them down myself and it was horribly difficult for me. I should have had them put down before their rear hips completely gave way. There were obvious signs that it was getting ready to happen but I just deluded myself by thinking they had more time than they did. It was a traumatizing experience.
When it constantly hurts the dog to walk, stand, sit, bear weight, run, etc. it's time.
Another poster said you will know and it's true. It's hard, absolutely, it's really hard.

I've never understood the point of these American talkshows, or American humour in general. It seems like they're just shouting unwitty snarkiness while making silly voices. There isn't any "joke" to be found in this video. It's just highly concentrated #lulsorandom facebook posts.

Some sort of lupine flower Google tells me.
Looks like it, thank you! How do you search for it?...

I put "star leaves" into google images. It's down a little ways on that search.

Do you like giraffes, /an/?
Turns out there were four distinct species of giraffes this whole time.
They sexy
I fucking love the way they run, it's looks so silly. Pls post more giraffes.
Giraffes are smaller than most people realize
Thread dedicated to large pets (deer, big pigs, monitor lizards, etc.)
What big guys do you have?
I've been planning on getting either a water monitor or a nile monitor. Anyone had experience with monitors?
I live in FL so sunlight and saltwater for swimming are readily available
Is it a good idea to take a monitor to the ocean? (With a leash/harness of course)
