My dad is a total bro these days, but used to beat me up as a kid while drinking. He was gonna throw me down the stairs once, used to pick me up by my collar and scream, broke my thumb in a fight when I confronted him as he was chasing my friends down the road for "ruining his marriage." I knocked him on his ass that night and finally changed things - he bought me a PSP to apologize, which I couldn't play because he'd broken my thumb in half.

I feel like he feels very obligated now that he's not on the booze as much.

My Dad was a shit-bag when I was growing up as well, but he also bettered himself over time. Parents who grow up in shitty environments tend to follow provide much of the same, but there are those who acknowledge as much as change their behaviors.

I'd say take him up on his offer. It'll probably make him feel better about helping you through life, and much more importantly, if will prove to you that your Dad really does care about your well-being.

I was labeled as "that smart lazy kid" all my life and until uni, was able to get through classes without studying. But that's where it stopped.
I fucked up 2 years of college, because in fact , i was the smart lazy kid and had never learned how to study, up till now. I just picked up more info than most other kids did and that somehow had saved me until now. I dropped out and worked for a year. Now i'm back in uni doing the same course that i did at first and it's working. I got diagnosed with ADD and dopamin defficiency. They give me ritalin and for the first time in my life i actually feel as if my brain "rewards" ( for the scientifically uninformed among you, dopamin is the "reward" hormone ) me for studying. It's weird to say this, but when i have to take these meds i feel like most motivated people around me + i got way more social. So yeah, i think you could say it is a thing. When you go from sitting in front of a paper for 4 hours straight while thinking of 100+ impossible scenarios and observing countless insects or other moving things that pass by while studying 1-2 lines to studying 7-11h a day i think you can say that it does in fact exist, and is "curable" by medication.

I was working on the divorce but got discouraged because it costs $, lawyer and time. I'm currently not able to be financially on my own because I had quit my job before I found out so rn I'm dependant on him. It'll take 3-4 months to officially divorce him and that's why I brought up the open relationship idea to him but he insists we work this out. I might lose custody because of my financial position to care for the child. They already told me that they might just separate us for a bit until we manage to work it out but it's not a divorce. The military side is ready to take his side and come at me a full force so that's why I still haven't been fully sure. The state is a no fault state, they told me the cheating evidence I have won't have an impact unless it's evidence of him actually having sex then he could lose in the military side. So because of that I'm still trying to think of how to get him so I can just get it done.
