I'm 28. Dated a single mother. The daughter was really you guys and didn't have a rebellious attitude to me or anything. I really learned to care strongly about both of them but it didn't work out.

It really doesn't matter what /adv/ thinks. If you're a guy thinking of dating one, what matters is what you thinks. If you're a girl who is one, there'll be a guy out there who'll date you. And in either case, it needs to be remembered that /adv/ and 4chan in general does not share opinions that are representative of the real world.

Listen here. You do have a chance. I was in the same situation at one point. It eventually happened at one point. Do yourself a favor, and talk to other girls though. Sift through them, and see if your best friend really is all that great. Dont hold yourself in the corner by not talking with other girls though. If somehow it works out, and you're with your best friend... do NOT be insecure. The fear of losing someone, will ultimately lead to that. She grew and changed as a person and now you're just bitter that that change doesn't include you. Thats your ego talking. Just because she was with you when she discovered her confidence does not mean that you own it. She's allowed to be happy and feel good about herself without you. I know it hurts but she's gone, man. The fact that she's happy without you is going to hurt at first but you're going to have to get over it.

You didn't "give" her confidence, man. Its not yours to give and take. She developed, she grew. Get over it.

Talk about it. Talk about it with your friends. It's very important to talk about how you're feeling. Your friends are probably feeling the same way. I lost a good friend of mine in the 7th grade, and I found out that was that it's super important to talk about your feelings. Go to the funeral.
Just remember that their body may be gone, but the memories you share are with you as long as you remember. But just let go and know that they'd want you to not be upset about it for too long.

I know this is bait but before the /pol/ machine revs up and starts spinning at top RPM I just want to say that no one is wanting white people to apologize for being white or to take responsibility for what happened 200 years ago but you have to remember that the civil rights movement was only 45 years ago.

The pain and hurt of hundreds of years and slavery just doesn't disappear with a couple generations. I'm black and I grew up with stories from my father and grandfather about my dad getting rocks thrown at him when he rode his bike through white neighborhoods and my grandfather going to the shitty black grade school on the poor side of town where the books were hand-me-downs and the walls had black mold while the whites went to the nice new school.

The hurt is still very fresh for a lot of people and just because you were born in a time where lynchings and cross burnings weren't commonplace doesn't mean there isn't things going on that you don't see.

Also, "blacks don't give a shit about white people" is kind of a loaded, inaccurate statement. I think more accurately it would be that black people are kind of tired of white people pretending like racism is over just to protect their own feelings and avoiding an uncomfortable conversation.

Its like kicking a guy in the ribs with steel toed boots for hundreds of years and then when the kicking finally stops you want to take issue with and roll your eyes at the fact that the guy is still limping around complaining about his injuries.

For every black person that uses the race card to explain every wrong thing in their life there is a white person who thinks that not seeing racism regularly means that its over.

Society values women's bodies so by getting other people to praise them they not only feel validated by you but as society as a whole. In the eyes of society, if a woman is not physically attracted and wanted by a lot of people then she's kind of less of a woman. Every day you see commercials, TV shows, movies and music videos featuring drop dead gorgeous 10's with a flat tummy and perfect bone structure and everyone praises them. Why wouldn't you think that a girl, especially a young impressionable one, wouldn't do everything she could to obtain just a tiny bit of the praise and admiration that she sees all these celebrities getting?

At the same time, a woman who doesn't put a great emphasis on looks or who leaves the house without makeup or maybe doesn't dress very sharply or wears baggy clothes is looked at strangely in public. Subconsciously we all sort of expect women to exude a certain amount of allure and sexuality and believe it or not a majority of young women internalize this into their everyday behavior.

On the other hand society values men's virility, power and leadership. A man with big muscles, a man with a fast car, a man holding a big gun, a man leading a football team or standing around a beach with no shirt on and 6 girls on his arm.

Look up Dan Bilzerian on instagram and you'll see a perfect representation of the "male nude". He's a true egoist and perfectly embodies the kinds of things that society praises men for achieving.

In short, we all just want people to like us. We all want to be wanted. We all want to be admired and loved. In a society that teaches children that money and sex are the keys to true power are you actually surprised that young girls use their bodies as tools for validation?
