My problem is that my brain is a never ending train of continuous active thinking. It is really bothersome. What proved some relieve was that I keep lists of stuff I need to do during the week. That way thoughts like that don't pop up anymore, because Im calmed, because it is written down.

Furthermore use f.lux on your computer. Maybe a 'white noise' device such as a fan will do the trick for you.

For some reason she thinks something weird is going on. Don't make it about you, make it about her. Ask "You seem stressed out lately, are you ok?". It's better if you ask this in person so she doesn't have much time to think about it. She'll say something like "yeah, exams are catching up with me lately" and she'll make that her "narrative" even if if it's not completely true. She'll realize she's being weird and then make a conscious effort to be friendlier

Replace the ritual of smoking with the ritual of making and drinking tea. Get a nice quiet spot in your house or outside and just make some tea and take a break from life. Tea ceremonies are a thing for a reason.

I think you're just worrying because that's how you care. It's good to give her space and trust her. My boyfriend feels the exact same way when I go out and he usually feels better after a bit of affection when I'm back home. If you find yourself acting weird and she's questioning it or maybe feeling insecure just be honest and it'll relieve both parties.

Lets give an example, here in Germany I might say in private that I hate all refugees, obviously I know saying this in public would get me shunned because such a blanket statement is easily written off as racist, which it is. If I were to however say that I sympathize with the problems of the refugees but I think letting them all come in without any real plan was a mistake and instead we should be using our desire for humanitarian assistance to improve refugee camps in Turkey/Lebanon/Jordan. To this end we should vote Merkel out.
