what's a good retro game for when you're stoned and want to unwind from your job?

What Mario hack is that?
And most people I play EQEMU servers with smoke. Its annoying hearing their bong rips on TeamSpeak.
What's the best X-Wing game between X Wing, X Wing Vs. TIE Fighter, and X Wing Alliance? I'm looking mostly for the best gameplay and graphics.
>>3689046
i've always been partial to x wing, its the one i played the most. plus if you entered X-Wing as your pilots name your portrait was a mon calamari. to this day i still have a thing for an A-Wing.
i was happy with tie fighter, x wing vs tie fighter and x wing alliance. although i was disappointed with tie fighter when rebel ships being nerfed and tie fighters being able to withstand more that more than a few hits.
Do any of these games work with multimonitor setups? I have a 3 60'' TV setup that I use for X-Plane, would be kind of cool to get some old X-Wing games running on it.
>>3689046
x wing is definitely the hardest motherfucker.
I like x wing vs tie. alliance might be newer but x vs tie had cooler missions.
good /vr/ games to play stoned?
dude weed
Rodrigo Duterte's Drug Massacre for Genesis.
How does /vr/ about reproduction cartridges (with translation patches) for games never released in the West?
I think this is the only scenario in which I would knowingly purchase a repro. Maybe that and a crazy fun romhack.
I think translations are the devil.
When I get a flashcart it'll mostly be to play hacks and whatnot. I don't think I'd buy a repro for that

I don't care if other people do but I wouldn't
Alright /vr/, I'm here for some advice. I know I could probably post this in /diy/ but I figured someone here might have experience with this stuff.
I've been thinking of building my own all-purpose MAME arcade cabinet for a while (4-player cabinet). I have a few questions before I really get into it. It will hopefully be something similar to, but not identical to, pic related. I know following a guide would be the easiest thing, but since there are so many guides, and I have my own idea on what I want, I'm just going to make my own design.
1. Should I use a CRT display, or should I just use HLSL effects to get similar results (heard of hlsl, haven't tried it myself. All I know is it's a bunch of directX effects that let you emulate scan lines and shit)? If a CRT would be the best option, which model of TV or monitor?
2. How powerful of a PC should I use? I don't plan to run any games past the ps1 or n64 era. I'm asking because I know someone who can sell me old computers for cheap.
3. What is the best PCB for wiring the controls? I'm looking at I-PAC boards (http://www.ultimarc.com/store/section.php?xSec=2), but I want to know if there's a better alternative.
>>3688382
I bought an old cab and gutted it. I'll post results, but how do you remove these kinds of buttons? They came with the old machine and I wanna reuse them.

I want to get this so bad but everywhere I search it's so fucking expensive.
Anyone knows what's the status of the NES mini? Will there be more in stock?
Do you think they will release a mini SNES in the future?
Also retro replica/relaunch general thread.
Just get a raspberry pi and put retropie on it, it's the same shit for the same price or cheaper.
>>3688323
I'm a hardware pleb, don't really understand how to do all that.
Just wait til after Christmas. The prices are sure to plummet then.
If you're buying one as a gift, you're either gonna have to camp out in front of a store for hours, or just pony up the dough for some scumbag scalper.
Sup /vr/
Can we have a nice "Y2K futurism aesthetics in retro games" thread? You know, stuff like you see in Wipeout, Nitrous Oxide, games full of techno music and technological optimism of pre 9/11 era. Is there anything similar?

>sup /v/ i'm lost

What is your point, exactly?

Outrun 2019
Is the Master System the worst globally released Sega console?
Or should that title go to the Saturn, which was ultimately the reason for Sega's death?
>>3687945
Nintendo had some sort of no compete clause Japanese developers had to sign in order to get a license to produce NES games. Aside from the reset button being on the console, the Master System hardware was decent. Still, it was probably the worst globally released Sega console.
>>3687945
The SMS did very successfully in Europe and South America and actually outperformed the NES in those markets. Europe got a lot of exclusive games and many ports of game gear titles to the system.
The Saturn did okay in Japan but pretty much failed everywhere else.
32X or Game Gear
I'm 9 hours in and bored out of my god damned mind, someone trick me into thinking this is fun cause I don't see why people like this "game".
>>3687773
I got to the time skip and stopped. Great art and some good characters but I just wasn't feeling it. I plan to at least try IV someday.
Game is great but is slow and methodical almost to a fault. You kind of have to be in the Dragon Quest mindset of sit down and enjoy it at its pace. I admittedly never finished it because Suikoden III was scratching that aforementioned itch better than BoFIII (I didn't finish suikoden either...).
Meh its still a great game you just gotta be in the mood for what it brings to the table.
The toddler part is pretty boring and slow, but it gets better afterwards.
Its another "it gets good after X amount of hours!" type.
In the American Playstation version of Resident Evil, the screen fades to white when you die. I recently started playing the Japanese Saturn version of the game, and it doesn't fade to white, so the deaths are more gory.
So, does the Japanese Playstation version fade to white when you die or is the Saturn version the only version that doesn't censor deaths in this fashion?
Also, let's talk about censorship in video games.

Was the prototype of RE1 with the multiplayer ever found?
>>3687734
No. I don't think one exists. I think multiplayer was scrapped pretty early on considering how little is implemented in the earliest prototype that we do have.
>>3687724
I think Resident Evil 2 death animations were cut from the japanese version too. Also, for all versions, before you encounter the first Licker there's a headless corpse of a cop. This head is supposed to drop from the ceiling when you encounter the first Licker and the blood that drips comes from that head.
Good games for PS1 that don't drown you in fucking cutscenes or dialogue. I never owned a PS1 growing up, and it seems to me I wasn't missing out on much. Finally bought one and tried playing some games from friends' recommendations. Vagrant Story, FF8, Metal Gear Solid, 30 minutes after starting each of these games, I've experienced less than 5 minutes of fucking gameplay.
I generally like RPGs and stuff, but these seem REALLY dialogue/story heavy compared to most of my favorites, which were on the SNES. Do they get better later on, or should I cut my losses and try something else?
>>3687649
Einhander
R-Type Delta
Arcade ports
RE1-3 get going pretty quick, Silent Hill also isn't exceptionally story-heavy.
SotN
Omega Boost
Tenchu 1
Wipeout series
Those are all the ones I can suggest that I've personally played.
>>3687649
Vagrant Story has a slow start but once the game starts, the cut-scenes are generally infrequent and quite short
Somewhat on thread..
What rpgs (jrpg/wrpg doesnt matter) that only has minimal story to it?
i played too many too long to care about another almost magical teenage boy saving the world.
What are these tube things supposed to be?

What was VR like before 2000?
Virtual Boy doesn't count.
(pic related is from 1994, iirc)
>>3687538
looks nifty, but I have the feeling it's missing the sensory deprevation that helps convaying VR properly, hu?
>>3687547
it's literally the worst thing ever made
I've set up a Quake3 server and I would like input. What were some of your favorite maps, models, play modes, settings? It will probably have bots on there most of the time. If you'd like to sign me up for gay porn or have any suggestions, feel free to email. Will leave it up indefinitely unless somebody spoils it.

Anyone know how I can get this working on epsxe? All I'm getting is a black screen
Specifically the English patched version from emuparadise
Get the NTSC-J ISO and patch it yourself. It's the only way to be sure.
