What are some examples of retro game remakes done right?
>>3690106
Personally, I never liked it. The art style seemed ridiculous. Should've stuck with Amano's drawings. The whole charm of the game is lost with that awkward chibi 3D. I understand the original sprites were chibi too, but it was the standard for the time because of low res, and the artwork showed how the heroes were supposed to look like. Instead, they went with kiddy 3D (I guess because it's Nintendo platform). These models look awful to me. Also, the 3D is just needless when you keep the top-down view of the original. Why is it there? No one knows. I'd rather have a strict 2D grid like on SNES. Should've stuck with 2D for such a low res, or at least make it good like Dragon Quest Monsters Joker.

Never played the 4 remake, but the 3 remake is an improvement on the original in almost every way. Definitely an easier remake though because the original 4 is better than the original 3.

definitive version of the game as far as I'm concerned
I have played all of the Silent Hill games and I've always wondered if there's something inside the closed doors (the ones where the lock is broken, etc). It's possible that there's nothing there and they're just models/sprites made to simulate other rooms that happened to be close, but.. as an amateur programmer, I know that not all the doors are sprites. As a matter of fact I know there's some doors that lead to real rooms with something inside, something that the programmers could've hidden inside and only they know what they are.
This also applies to the first 3 Resident Evil games.
Anyone knows how I can find an answer to this? Maybe using the game files to see what's behind the doors or even the walls? I think that it's impossible to do a "no clip" kinda trick but I'm sure that there is a way to see models and maps in code, like a Pokémon game or an old NES game.

I think some of the textures have hidden pictures in them. I start having schizophrenic episodes playing them due to it.
>>3689720
are you serious? which one gives you that?
>>3689861
All of them. Plus binaural beats in the audio. I can see them looking at me in your image. The illuminated corner holds many faces. Theyre literally everywhere.

I like Ys but I don't know how to pronounce it so I don't ever bring it up.

So if I buy this all I need is a USB controller? Plz help I am trying to avoid nintendos artificial difficulty at getting a nes classic
You're better off emulating on a laptop or desktop pc
>>3689471
Buy a raspberry Pi for half the cost and do the exact same thing
You could do it yourself for less, unless you really want it to look like that. Them yeah, you'd just need a controller and maybe an HDMI cord
Farewell to AC. I had some good memories with this game,
Man I used to love playing this game. My first MMORPG. Easily the best PVP in any MMO I've played to date.
:c
Former City of Heroes player here, so IKTFB. Be thankful you had such a good, long run.
This thing is a shitbiscuit but that may be due to my time as a video game player coming after the NES's prominence (first home console was the SNES).
That said, all the attention lumped on this thing has made me think about worthwhile NES games. Do you guys have like a big meme sheet of must-play-or-kill-yourself NES titles?
>>3689126
this one omits super-obvious games

If there's one thing that getting a NES flash cart taught me, it's that yes, most of the library is shit.
There are some gems, though.
What are some good casual or multiplayer Dreamcast games? I'm giving my 7 and 8 year old nephews my old Dreamcast for Christmas. I've had it for years, but I never used it since it was given to me with no cables, and I don't know much about it's library, but I've got the cables now, and I've started burning discs.
My current list is Star Wars Episode I: Racer, both Sonic Adventures, Hydro Thunder, Crazy Taxi, San Francisco Rush 2049, and Jet Set Radio.
They're not very smart kids, and they've never played anything other than phone games before so I think casual or multiplayer games would be best. Taking turns is never as much fun.
Propeller Arena is a must.
My ISP might also be massive fucking faggots right now, because after downloading Sonic my whole connection has gone to shit, and 90mb games are taking 10 minutes to download.
I'm looking the jump onto the Might & Magic series, I was told that the World of Xeen saga (IV & V) would be a good place to start. Can anyone vouch for this or any other chapters? Also if there any other similar games that could be recommended, I'm all ears.
Cheers.
IV is a good place to start and really easy to pick up and play.
Hell, I remember playing it while still being in primary school, not really having a clue how half of the shit in the game worked, and still managed to beat it.
It's a simple entry for starters. You get visual feedback and don't have to worry about too many things. 3 is fairly similar.
If you have a lot of RPG experience it may feel too easy in which case 1 might be more appealing.
The games from 6 onward have more complex game systems and movement is no longer restricted to grids so they seem like a larger challenge for absolute beginners.

M&M III is another option, it's comparable to Xeen and probably shorter.
Just curious.
What sort of input lag are y'all getting with SD signal inputs to your HDTV?
Best I can manage is 0.8 frames which isn't great. Any way to improve it?
>>3689091
You mean 80 frames? 0.8 isn't bad. If you're even measuring accurately.
>>3689127
Pic is related as far as my method goes. Might be inaccurate as it relies on a human factor.
Are there any other ways to measure which might yield better results?
>>3689307
Well, since it seems as if you're using the 240p test suite you could use the other built in lag checker.
My old man just gave me these and I was wondering if they were worth anything past sentimental value. I believe this is just a demo of the game as well. No answer will be taken as fact without proof
It looks like a third party packaging of shareware Doom. Fact, there are millions of those in the wild. They're worth little more than the 1.44"s they're saved on.
A close up of disk 1/2.
I kept mine because I paid money for them and the box/instructions were pretty cool. They are worthless as no one really uses 3.5" floppies, but they are mine so they do have sentimental value to me. I already own it, and I still downloaded the Underground Gamer torrent of all the Doom stuff, so the physical discs are just there to be a memento.
>>3689058
They appear to be shareware, as in demo copy meant to be freely distributed in hopes to get people to buy (register). Worked well in the early days of baud modems.
>ITT: retro games that are STILL underrated
Let me start with Magic of Scheherazade (anyone who's played it is hearing the grandiose theme music)... which was an amazing game that was done in (at least in the west) by committing the crime of being an RPG before FF7 and the fact that no kid could pronounce or even remember the title of the game.
Oh and if you're going to play it, don't plant the seed in the past and reap the rewards in the future. It just breaks the game.
>>3688938
Genpei Tomaden, a platformer with 3 kind of modes, and multiple routes
>>3688938
I rented this game so many times as a kid because I could never track down a cartridge. I think an SNES sequel that refined and balanced the combat systems could have been truly great. I appreciate the novelty of the game now but don't really find it engaging anymore. But still underrated and very interesting. Deserved that sequel, at least.
But it's always frustrated me that RPG settings get recycled so often when there are so many world religions and folk traditions to steal from.
>>3689546
>But it's always frustrated me that RPG settings get recycled so often when there are so many world religions and folk traditions to steal from.
I agree wholeheartedly. I'm so fucking tired of dwarves, elves, dragons in a vague dark ages Europe.
Give me something new!
>Secret Santa Day at work yesterday..

What's even fucking worse is the person who gave it to me gave me a fucking dirty ass used one not even from the box. Like I don't want to complain about a gift but when I saw this shit with scratch marks in a bag I was just kind of like "Ooooh nice.."
>>3688912
>ask for something

This is a /v/ tier thread. sage

Your own dumbass fault for writing you wanted something retro gaming but didn't want something retro gaming.

Cheers BITCH
In those 4 hours, 5 thousand more war criminals invaded your country.
>ITT: Best 'slow' games.
Don't have to be puzzles per se, but any retro game in which breakneck reflexes aren't integral to integral to the game.
I'll start with one of my favorite games from the NES, and definitely one of the best soundtracks (despite having like 3 songs).
>>3688697
>Lolo 1
My nigga, just beat it yesterday. Felt some of the last few levels were a bit bull but overall fun game.
Highly recommend pic related.
