What are some bad arcade games? Can anyone think of any?
I remember not liking both Double Dragon 3 and Gauntlet back in the day because they felt like "microtransactions the game" more obviously than any other.
I have a personal hateboner for the Mortal Kombat line of games because it took away my SSF2(T) competition for what I saw was pure flash and no technical substance (even back then).

Favorite game on n64 and why?
Battle Tanx

Sin & Punishment. It was the first N64 game I played (bought a few before owning the system), and the visuals and play mechanics impressed me. It was fun for me then, and I still find it fun now. These days, I guess it is because it triggers a few people on /vr/ for what I see as "no real good reason."

Anyone a fan of the Shining Force Series? One of Sega'a best series before they decided to turn into anthropomorphic animal garbage.
>pic extremely related
Shining Force was done by Camelot though, the guys behind Golden Sun.
>>3668369
Camelot was originally founded in 1990 as a division of Sega known as Sega CD4 (Consumer Development Studio #4)
>>3668357
Shining Force was okay. Gameplay-wise it wasn't very good (absolutely terrible balance, some of the gameplay mechanics were poorly thought out, the battle pacing was really slow, the AI was beyond retarded, the level design was generally uninspired, etc) but the game had a lot of charm and the visuals were nice. I thought the second game was a lot worse in every way, it was a larger game but was even more poorly designed, had much worse writing, and the exploration parts were a chore. The 3rd game seemed a bit better than the 1st but not by much, so I never bothered with the following scenarios.
>before they decided to turn into anthropomorphic animal garbage.
I'm obligated to warn you that 90% of Shining Force fans only like it due to centaur girls and other subhumans.
I've been emulating tons of C64 and ZX spectrum games from the early 80s over the last few days, because people keep saying how PCs would've saved the industry after the crash without Nintendo.
All I can say is, what the hell is this? These are basically more colorful 2600 games. Crappy arcade ports, choppy scrolling if it existed at all, games that last 30 minutes, bugs everywhere, mostly unplayable games. The only advantage seems to be the ability to pirate software easier which would've killed the industry faster if that was the only draw.
You really expect me to believe this shit was going to save video games in the west? I'm sure some people would've made do, but if this was the quality we could expect, most companies would've gone under by the nineties and you'd only have hobbyists releasing demos and shit.
Face it, Nintendo (and later Sega) introducing a quality standard and releasing excellent first-party games was what saved the industry, and if you believe otherwise you're completely out of your mind.

Don't you know that the computer game industry never collapsed? Jesus christ go out and learn something
>>3667725
C64 games are legit fun though
>>3667753
It didn't collapse in the two years between the 2600 and NES, but I think we all know it wouldn't have stayed that way for long.
strut your stuff, /vr/. make sure to timestamp.
Ugh I have a Dreamcast but no Sonic games for it.

OP Question: Anyone know anything about the Atari 7800? Mine has a tendency to reset itself, but not constantly (so probably not a problem with the reset switch). Ms. Pac Man resets right after I leave the title screen (but not during, as I can tell from the continuous animation), but Pole Position will randomly reset during a race. Any idea what would cause this?
>>3659464
It might be the reset switch like you said or some where along the lines the reset signal could be triggered somehow.
I'd get some contact cleaner and spray it into the switch and push it a few times until its dry and try again.
I got this bootlegged copy of Shantae off of AliExpress a few days ago. It worked fine and the label and cartridge look nice enough (generic "GAME" logo aside), although the cartridge had a slight bulge that looked dumb and made it hard to fit in my Game Boy.
The battery that was on the cartridge was too big, and the epoxy blob chip was preventing it from fitting well. I replaced it with one of the smaller batteries and ultra-low-profile holders I use when refurbishing Gameboy carts, although I had to re-wire parts of the PCB because the old battery holder was wired up in an unconventional way.
I used my Dremel to cut and isolate part of the positive area on the back of the board that one of the two ground legs on the old battery holder was attached to. From the front of the board, I filed away the reverse side of that area and the common ground, then bridged it with a resistor leg and some solder, thus transforming it into a common ground pad. I hotglued down the new battery holder and soldered it to the pads.
Now the cart works perfectly and has no annoying battery bulge. Even with the extra fuss I think it was well worth the $8 I paid for it even if it's a bootleg.

Here's a clean look at the inside so you can get a better look at the bridge and where I ground away the protective enamel to reach the copper.

The Atari 5200 console and games
or
The Atari 7800 console and games?
Your overly simple question belies your overly simple mind.
7800 had ballblazer and ninja golf.
I don't know much about the 5200.
To put it in simple terms for this thread, discounting discrete (inferior) arcade ports there's only a literal hand full of exclusives for either platform period. The 7800 is probably slightly more worth having assuming you have an Atari 8-bit computer already like an XEGS or also if you have zero Atari systems and only want one.
