Why is this so expensive
Because belts
>>3684303
I'll never understand why belts are the bane of so many retro electronics. My laserdisc player needs the tray opened manually because the belt has weakened for example, and it's too risky for me to rip it apart just to make the tray pop.
>>3684332
Because they stretch over time
So, Ultima Online is /vr/, right?
Anyone have any experience playing this gem?
>>3684269
Yes but I played pre-uor.
That was like in 1996.
The golden era of uo
>>3684312
It wasn't released until 1997, you dingus.
>>3684315
97 then!
back when you could cast spells with heavy crossbows and place houses in dungeons.
How well are most pal region original playstation games optimised? I ask because I they don't look to be running any slower to me when I compare them to videos online. I had to mod my mega drive because I couldn't stand how slow it felt, especially how the music sounded, but all the music in ps1 games sounds as it should. I wondered if that was because I was playing it on fds mode on my ps2, but I'm not sure if that affects the actual game, or just load times.
I was going to play my Symphony of the night again, but then wondered whether I should download it instead as I'm fairly certain I've heard that it wasn't a game that was optimised well.
Is there any way to get pal games to run in 60hz?
>>3684232
Short answer no
Long answer only if someone goes out of the way to hack the game, the hz the game runs at is in the games code.
>>3684232
Game speed back then were dependent on the framerate, with some rare exceptions like Crash 2 where they manually compensated his run speed. I would stick with NTSC if possible unless the game is PAL exclusive.
>>3684707
Some PAL versions are outright better.
Suikoden 2 has various bug fixes for example
Was it game of the decade?
Nah.That'd be DKC2
I spent ages jumping on that tire in the tree house while I listened to that happy

What's the best way to play Castlevania: Rondo of Blood? I got the original game to work on a pcengine emulator, but the patcher for the english version won't work for whatever reason. Is the PSP one any good?
>>3684064
Original Rondo has to be unlocked first before you can play it in the PSP Dracula X Chronicles, just a reminder if you don't want to play the remake.
SNES > Remake > Original
Does it have to be in english? It's not like the plot matters.
Long story short, some Vidya game store where I live is selling some old psx/ps1's that were repaired but never picked up by their owners. They have around a dozen or so consoles, and 3 of those are original psx's and the rest are various psone models, I didn't have time to check the model numbers, and since I know the story guy he's gonna let me take first pick on Tuesday before he starts selling them. Any notable models I should keep an eye out for? Again, I dont know what models he has and ive got no way to find out until I go to buy them since they have them in a box and the boss told them to not open it until they get controllers to sell them with (which come on Tuesday), so id appreciate a list of some notable models. I can only get one because alot of people want one so it's a one per customer type of shit. All I've seen online so far are the 1001 model which has skipping and overheating but the best sound chip. They all have new lasers and modchips to play backups.
>>3684058
>but the best sound chip
Don't even bother unless you have an audiophile sound system and audiophile ears.
The original model PS3 is the best for playing PS1.
>>3684106
I dont have a ps3 nor do i want one, i want this for collecting purposes mostly Since i know ps2 can Run ps1 games just fine. Is psx > PSone? Any advantages in hardware in any model? Or just better asthetically?
What do you think about this game?
What do you like/dislike about it
And the most important question: Did you manage to beat Mizar, the final boss? How do you beat him? What's the secret?
>>3684046
Never beat the game. Time to boot up my n64.
I did have several hours of multiplayer and unlocking secrets though.
The 2 player mode was legit op if the person controlling the robot was good.
>>3684048
Same here
Didn't beat the game as a kid, finding all tribals wasn't very easy, there were always 2 tribals at the Tawfreet stage that I missed.
it looks great, i liked to play it the few times that i rented it.
finaly bought it a few years later to feed my rare collection, before the retro hype mind you, so it was cheap.
have tried to play it a couple times, since then, still do every few years or so, but the game is just not easy to get into, so i havent beat it or even seen the majority of the game.
Getting an Everdrive 64 soon as I liquidate my collection, what are your favorite / most fun N64 multiplayer games? So far I've done some research and got a list of what I want to check out but looking for experts like you /vr/.
My list so far:
Battle Tanx: Global Assault
Diddy Kong Racing
Excitebike 64
F-Zero X
Gauntlet Legends
GoldenEye 007
Mario Golf
Mario Kart 64
Mario Party 1-3
Mario Tennis
Pokémon Stadium 1-2
Super Smash Bros.
Wave Race 64
Any other games you personally recommend for 4 player mayhem? I'm fairly familiar with the system but more so with the PS1.
I like rampage but i think its only 3 players
>>3684024
That's alright. I should have just said by multiplayer I mean 2-4. But I'll check it out, thanks.
>>3684019
Road Rash is fun
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dqmlmiH7QhA
Just bought this
Damn its sweet but is there really only 8 courses?
>>3684009
You should of bought the version with rumble support.
>>3684009
8 courses for that generation of racing games was common. Wipeout, Ridge Racer Type 4, etc. Speaking of Ridge Racer, the old ones only have 3 courses plus maybe 1 bonus one.
>should of
learn your language you incredible faggot.
Who else has fond memories of Toki?
The arcade version is fantastic.
I love the music. I wish they'd made more than a few songs though. There are only two main stage themes.
>>3683943
Genesis version is completely different and probably one of the hardest games on the system, if not the hardest.
>>3683979
It's not really that hard.
>>3684029
Did you get the true ending with Membrane as the final boss?
If not, go play it again.
What's the best version of pic related, in terms of translation quality, censorship, and general gameplay or technical differences?
ROM hacks/fan translations accepted if they're considered good enough.
>>3683937
Just play the original release.
>>3683959
but muh Woolsey
>>3683937
The Anthology release on the PS1 is my favorite. An updated translation with better menu load times is really all you can ask for a rerelease of FFVI. The GBA release may have a lot more content, like an official boss of the Kaiser Dragon and some extra dungeons and Espers, but the GBA's soundchip makes the game sound awful in comparison to the previous releases.
Don't even bother with the IOS release, it's the embodiment of trash.
Was Working Designs really at fault for this?
Was this one of the games that they upped the difficulty from the Japanese version for no apparent reason?
>>3683996
That's what I though, but this statement makes me unsure
>"Working Designs made a mistake when tweaking the parameters. As Vic explained on NeoGAF: "On Exile 2 it was an issue of limited number of modifications because we weren't doing the game reprogramming, Telenet was. It was a small number of tries. And on the second-to last time, we had it *almost* right, so we added like +1 to the monsters, but it was like that scene with the fat guy in Meaning of Life where the waiter gives him that one wafer and he explodes. That +1 exceeded some limit internally and made the monsters exponentially harder rather than incrementally."
>>3684073
The biggest question was why the felt the need to increase the difficulty in the first place? It's not like the rental market was a threat to the TG16 scene at the time Exile II came out.

I recently purchased a Sega Genesis advertised as working off ebay, and it sort of works.
Whenever there is a controller plugged in, it starts pressing down and doesn't stop.
This happens in either port.
Do I need to buy a soldering kit?
>>3683516
have you tried another controller?
>>3683524
Yes, I tested the one it came with and a second one I bought. Both ports do it.
Also tried cleaning out the ports with a q tip but they seem pretty clean of dust or anything.
>>3683516
I don't think a soldering kit will help you learn how to locate the correct thread to post in. Or learn you how to do anything for that matter. They're pretty useless unless you know what to do with them.
