CRT Filter or No Filter when emulating?
>>3683482
I emulate on a CRT
CRT-filter for handhelds
No filters for the rest.
>>3683482
Sort of wish there was a filter that just did the color corrections. Games seem too bright without it, and the only emulator that I know has this is Higan, but it's pretty botched on there, and makes the colors WAY too dark.
Whats your favourite retro /m/ game?
Super Robot Wars F/FF (Saturn/PSX)
Assault Suits Valken/Cybernator (SNES)
Omega Boost (PSX)
Great Battle IV (SNES)

Gihrens Greed Blood of Zeon Dreamcast
What are some of your biggest regrets when it comes to collecting /vr/?
>Selling my CIB copy of paper mario for $30 in '05
>selling my mega drive and it's collection of games for $100 back in '07 to buy a wii
I doubt there'd be bigger regrets than parting with your old stuff...
>Sold NES and the 3-4 games I had for it back in the 90's for like 5 bucks at a garage sale
>Had an entire collection of PS1 games I sold for barely 300 dollars on eBay about 12 years ago (mostly RPGs like Xenogears and Valkyrie Profile).
>Bought some of those titles back in flea markets and old video stores over the years, but they all have cracks and super-glued price stickers.
>>3683071
sold my N64 for 50$
Sold a boxed Earthbound with strategy guide on eBay for $150.
Also used to work at an entertainment exchange in 2008 that had an amazing Genesis stock that no one ever bought from because no one gave a hoot about Sega games back then. I go there now and they have no Sega games whatsoever.
What offsets the regret somewhat is that I got my hands on a CDX that I still have to this day.
Retro games with level editors?
Pic kind of related but obviously not retro
What genre? Official ones only or romhackers' made ? There is a lot.
The most interesting one I can think of is : in Japan there was this Game Boy game that was in the same genre as Advance Wars (although IIRC the first instalment came out before Famicom Wars, but I could be remembering wrong).
There was a level editor, and there was also a device that could allow you to upload/download levels on the internet.
Yes, on Game Boy.
I just don't remember the name of the game.
Also a Jap only re-release of Tenchu on PS1 has a level editor.
Rayman re-release on PC.

Nectaris GB
>>3683043
NES;
Lode Runner
Excitebike
This game is amazing. Are there any other games like this on the SNES?
no
play ogre battle 64
>>3683032
Ogre Battle 64 has one of the worst OST of all n64 games. I'm sure there are only three different songs that ever play.
>>3683536
that's not saying much considering the N64 had one of the worst overall soundtracks per game
Looking for something like clocktower... horror point and click
Doesnt evan have to be point and click actualy...just looking for something older that might give me the creeps...and something i can emulate on my android phone...
>>3683024
Elvia and the Jaws of Cerberus
Waxworks
Not sure if they'll go on Android but it should be possible if Android has dosbox.
>>3683065
ScummVM is preferable over dosbox when it comes to point-n-clicks.
Shadow of the Comet
Anybody here play retro sports games? Me and a friend just stayed up till 4am playing NBA jam te on SNES. I was up till midnight last night playing NBA live 96 with a different friend. I know this sounds fake because nobody on this board has friends, but I'm speaking the truth.
Older sports games can be had for 1/10 the price of other games. Rather than ignore them we should see them as an opportunity. I look at them like trading cards. These games have my favorite stars and I like to collect them.
Anyone else still play these?
I still play Blades of Steel all the time with my uncle, he introduced me to gaming back in '86
I used to play NBA JAM every day in elementary school
>>3682896
Blades of steel is great. I play rbi baseball on occasion. I have double double that gets pulled out. NBA Hang Time which is a shitty NBA jam clone.
One that I have nostalgia for is Madden 64. I haven't pulled that one out in a few years tho.
>>3682878
Only sports game I like.
GOAL GOAL GOAL YES! GOALGOALGOALGOAL YES! OH NO, OWN GOAL?!

What's her name, /vr/?
Every time someone mentions Dungeon Keeper or Thief I find myself running for the disks.
>>3682834
>reinstalling
>not haveing you game installed on your disk at all times
I literally cannot live without having a way to play Dungeon Keeper whenever I feel like it.
When I was finally upgrading to windows7, my biggest worry was whether I'd be able to play Dungeon Keeper on it.
KeeperFX was a godsend.
>>3682834
I need to play Yu-Gi-Oh! Forbidden Memories at least for a few hours every 2 weeks or so. I played other yu-gi-oh games but this one... There's something special about it for me.
Why did they fuck this one up so much? Only the skater thing is acceptable, rest is really boring levels with jackasses of spyro and really unfunny/annoying banter of shit locals. Aesthetics are less pleasing, music also. Spyro 2 was much better game with better challenges like keeping turtles away from pot and generally funnier.
Feature Creep. They wanted more playable characters and more minigames, and ended up making the game less fun.
Sometimes too many features will end up sinking a game.

Anyone got some varied weaponsets that are a little on the obscure side, or maybe shit like Blood weapons without extra baggage tied in?
Fun games you have created within games? I wish I could post this on /v/ but I'm sure they would just go "muh autism" as the kids never know what it was like to play a limited number of games repeatedly for long periods of time. An extremely simple example is beating a game as fast as possible which later became known as speedruns. Before people only did such as a challenge out of boredom and not for donations.
Something my brother and I used to do with a new fighting game right out of the box and again once we were sure we unlocked all of the characters is to split the characters evenly (if an odd number then someone get the random character icon and that be treated as a character) dodge ball style by picking whoever look cool/powerful. We would fight using the characters with the rule that you might use every character at least once before you can reuse a character and you can use the same character for two matches in a row unless impossible otherwise (your last one). The winner will get the loser's character. We did this til bored (my brother generally give up around 1:2 ratio) or until someone get all of the characters. The winner of the whole thing can hand pick out of all of the characters and give the loser the reminding half. Afterwards we get rights over that character and the other person can't choose it without permission. Of course the whole thing is meant to be fun and just for silly bragging while smack talking each other. Trading the characters like Pokemon cards were also fun while being virtually free. Of course being nice to each other we often give the other their favorite character if we had no interest in it otherwise. We did this for Mortal Kombat, Killer Instinct, World Heroes, Street Fighter and many other fighting games and even did it with Smash though we did the stages as well for that just for giggles. Kinda became a tradition while getting used to the game.
So anyone else were as creative with their old games?
I once tried to beat every Mario World level without letting go of the right D-pad button.
>>3682663
I really admire people who come up with creative ways to play games like this.
I've enjoyed things like speed running, sequence breaking, weapon restrictions, etc. for many years. I think the most unusual thing that I did was manually dissecting password systems through repeated play to discover all of the possible variables. I was then often able to construct passwords that would be impossible to get through normal play. My most thorough jobs were on Tetris Attack and all of the SNES Mega Man games (7, X, X2, X3). I have stacks of messy notes in storage somewhere. I've been meaning to dig them up for years.
>>3682663
does no death runs on super c count? im so close, i get up to the last part befor the final boss.
or that top down corridor gets mesicne its fuckign BS
I figure someone here can help me out, I'm trying to find the best emulators that can run games as closely as possible to the original console, none of this graphic enhancements, widescreen mods bullshit.
Bonus points if it has settings to make it look like a CRT
>>3682642
The settings to make it look like a CRT would be a graphical enhancement. Just buy a CRT from someone local. 99% are junk or in the trash already. Probably sitting in a grandmas house or old computer place.
No emulator is going to be absolutely perfect.
Get the real machine if you care.
It would take a day to order a 30 dollar retro console and go looking for a CRT under 100 bucks. Why waste time looking up emulator settings.
>>3682642
Popsloader and Popstarter are the closest emulators you will ever get, there is no other argument.
Are there more retro games in style of Castle Excellent, Robin Hood and La-Mulana? Action-adventure/puzzle, where you have to solve puzzles, find many items and possibly revisit some areas, whose parts were unaccessable before. What would you recommend?
Metroid
>>3682408
Something more obscure than Metroid or Castlevania?
>>3682401
I know of a bunch, but I need a sec to collect my thoughts on it
One to try in the mean time is Goonies 2 on NES by Konami, really good game but easy to get lost in.
Can someone please tell me what I'm doing wrong in this stupid idiot game for retards? I've been trying to make progress for TWO. SOLID. HOURS. and I keep getting set back to that fucking asylum cell with all of my items gone and all the enemies I killed magically reincarnated and more than ready to spew unskippable vocalized dialogue out of their non-existent mouth holes. Is there some part of the mechanics I haven't figured out? Some room that I just haven't come by?
I got as far as the game expecting me to play fucking hide-and-seek in Twinsen's house and whaddya fucking know, immediately some guys come in and send me right back to the looney bin.
I just wanted to find out what these fucking elephants and rabbits are talking about in their moronic voices and all I get is "EY BUDDYYY". I HATE THIS FUCKING GAME.
>>3682332
Are you banned from GameFAQs or something
>>3682332
>stupid idiot game for retards
look who's talking
Is there a version with controller support? I'm full pleb and can't get used to keyboard.
Good Japanese PS1 games that dont require knowing the language?
>>3682294
LSD, but that might be stretching some people's definition of a "good" game, also good luck finding a real copy in your lifetime
>>3682294
Do you want us to include fan translations too, or naw?
Yes both please
