You are now aware that there are retards out there who allow people to hack up their original famicom carts to put translated versions of games on them. These retards could buy flash carts or Chinese made bootlegs but it's "just not the same as having a real cartridge" to them.
How can I do this?
I much prefer to have the original hardware than use flashcart.
>>3685170
Just buy from the chinks. It's cheaper and will last longer. If you contact them they'll put any rom you want on a cart and make labels for you.
The correct approach would be to learn Japanese and play the games in their true form.
Be honest when 5th gen was new did you even still give a shit to play your old consoles?
I got a 3DO in 1995, played games like Gex and Total Eclipse for a bit, then went back to SNES and Genesis.
In 1996 I got a PS1 and N64, and then yeah I was too busy playing stuff like Mario 64, Wave Race 64, Ridge Race Revolution and Tekken II to give a shit about 16-bit, but in christmas of 96 I got DKC3 so I played the SNES again for that game.
I think I went back to 16-bit consoles in the early 2000s.
6th gen wasn't doing it for me that much.
I was pretty enamored with the Super NES when I got back, but still played the original NES occasionally. Same thing when I got all the relevant fifth gen consoles (PS1, N64, Saturn).
I was still on super nintendo until playstations dropped in price to 100$, but once i got one i didnt give any fucks to play 4th gen anymore. I was still jealous of the people who had N64
How many of you have had the misfortune of purchasing a game that you thought was legitimate/genuine, and then later found out was a reproduction or fake?
If you have had it happen, how did you discover the game you purchased was not a real copy?
>>3685045
Later when I had internet I've discovered that they didn't really made 16 different super mario sequels.
>>3685045
OP are you saying one of those SMB/DH are fake? Both labels are legit variants. The one with the bottom bar came along later.
>>3685045
one on the left is a later revision and also has a smaller glob top pcb. nobody would clone smb/dh
Is this something speedrunning faggots do?
>>3685018
Yep, I don't know how they do it...it's impossible for me
>>3685028
Requires precision timing on when to turn around before getting the bomb, and some arm pumping (rapidly alternating Aim Up/Down) for extra speed.
Sup /vr/, remember me?
This game had cool as fuck music
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Q0cSnKt6qW4
I sure do, you gecko fucking bitch.
>>3685064
Was there any reason they completely slutify Nikki in the sequel? She was cute in the first game.
they told me it was hard. Giving it a go on difficult next time.
Real Hardware, no cheats.
It's not that hard, just tedious.
As a kid I could never get past the lava raft section due to awful hit/landing detection. And I just didn't care enough to beat the game legit, so I used the level select to bypass it.
The final battle is really easy.

Let's get some recommendations going.
Post pics like this or give me your Top 10 from your favorite systems.
I started one of these a few months back and /vr/ insulted me.
ITT: Amazing minor characters with little to no following
that dialog sounds familiar...
Uh, okay.
>>3684876
Fallout is full of fleshed out minor npcs you can miss on your first play through isn't it?
Like the AI computer in the basement of the military bunker? Pretty sure that's FO1, haven't played them yet.
Why does everyone love this game so much? I could never get the hang of it as a kid and I still can't now.
The controls feel like you're constantly on a layer of ice, everything feels so slippery, like there's a slight delay on the input
I don't see how a game like this could be shat out and praised as much as it is, especially when F-zero launched with the super nintendo and has some of the tightest controls out of any racing game I've played on the SNES
I don't know either, never really liked it. Probably just a nostalgia thing. DD is superior
>>3684837
> blames nostalgia for Super being shit
> cites double dash as an actually good MK game
You're a blind hypocrite, anon.
>>3684830
>The controls feel like you're constantly on a layer of ice, everything feels so slippery,
Yeah, kind of like racing an actual go-kart on those tracks. Go Figure.
What do YOU consider to be the hardest retro game?
Pretty sure there's some literally inpossible mess of an Atari game out there somewhere. That ons.
The hardest game someone might actually want to play? Solomon's Key, maybe. Or a Druaga game, both just because of the sheer number of levels with limited lives.
That game ain't that bad. It has unlimited continues.
In 'Battletoads' you only get so many lives.
The NES port of GnG was terrible.
So I just added a 7800 to my collection. While looking up games for it I realized that there were only 59 licensed games released. I'm going to go for the complete set.
Any tips?
Also, Atari 2600/5200/7800 general
Well it's backwards compatible with the 2600.
>>3684616
Definitely get Ninja Golf. Also if you don't already have a 2600 collection, get Robot Tank and Battlezone. Maybe Secret Quest as well, it's like an Atari Zelda - but in space of course.
>>3684616
Buy low and take your time if you are trying to get a full set for it. Atari systems of the 2nd/3rd gen are not really in demand right now because most of the weeb collectors grew up with NES and later.
If someone is bidding hard against you, let it go for right now because the last thing you want to do is raise prices for the fucking re-sellers,
Try to get the sound upgrade add-on, it really helps some games not sound like dog shit. How the fuck did Atari think that releasing a system with a decade old sound chip would work?
Where do you find Game Genie or Action Replay codes for old japanese games? I'm trying to find something for the SNES remake of the first 2 Megami Tenseis to make it less tedious, like an EXP multiplier or an infinite healing items cheat.
>>3684514
You just need toGet Good Faggot
>>3684586
I am good. The game's just designed where you need to grind an excessive amount and I'd rather save myself the time and effort.
>>3684514
If you're on an emulator, just learn how to use Cheat Engine or the emulator's built-in cheat search function. It's just a lot easier and the Megaten remakes are particularly simple to hack, so it's a good place to start.
Is this the best platformer of all time?
>>3684483
It's good and the graphics are god-tier for NES. The physics in particular are very advanced and are at the core of game's mechanics.
But that said… Nah. I don't feel that star throwing mechanic was that intuitive. The level design was pretty good, but it's not on the level of SMB, Sonic, Megaman or Castlevania.
It's one of the best Sunsoft games, but it falls into the same pit as their other titles… Amazing graphics and music, but when it comes to substance it's just a very ordinary game.
>>3684483
For NES, probably.
It's got nothing on Sanic, though.
>>3684483
Arguably on NES.
My only complaints are some of the secrets seem way too obscure and to get the true ending is kinda bullshit but still a phenomenal game.
>>3684591
Disagree, however I wish there were more area with walls or thing to bounce them off of. Nothing more satisfying then riding a star and killing enemies.
ITT we post any interesting/weird/terrible consoles designed to either be a clone of an existing console, or a console with emulation that comes bundled with games.
I'll start off with the Power Games Penguin, this little guy is a Famiclone from China, not a terribly good one either, but I've always enjoyed the fact there's a console out there shaped like a penguin for no apparent reason.
>>3684410
>penguin
I guess I can see it
>>3684410
I like Famiclones and I tend to buy them when I see them super cheap. I have three that I really like believe it or not. One is just a Retro Duo but it's nice that it also plays SNES and uses SNES controllers but it's pretty well known. I kind of recently picked up a Power Joy model I'd never seen before that instead of being built into a N64 shaped controller (I have at least 3-4 of those) is built into like a PC flight stick shaped controller. It's pretty neat. Then probably my weirdest one is a King Game Computer 2 which is a keyboard Famiclone. The included game has a typing tutor and actually does mouse control. It's somewhat disappointing that you can't control regular Famicom games with the keyboard and have to use typical 9-pin Famiclone controllers though.
>>3684481
Actually remember owning an original Power Joy, got any pics of the one you found?
Do you guys map your controllers so that when the game says to press A, you have to press the button labeled A on your controller, or so that you have to press the button on your controller located in the same place as the button that does the same thing on the original controller is even if this means you're pressing a button with a different label than prompted?
>>3684304
Same location as the original controller because of muscle memory
>>3684304
As close to the original layout as possible. There are a handful of games that have on screen huds that coincide with the button layout
