i have points saved from a hotel rewards program, i can get up to 16 nights free in certain locations...top choices are:

1. Belo Horizonte, Brasil
2. Maceio, Brasil
3. San Pedro, Honduras
4. Pamplona, Spain
5. Mexico (but too scared to go?)

i've never been to latin america, but my main motivation to go there is to try the local food and fuck locals

if you were in my position, which one of these 5 places would you go to?

Hello friends,

I'm doing a two and a bit month trip through Peru, Chile and Argentina. I'll be starting off in Lima, and probably gunning straight for Cusco after a few days of adjustment in Lima. Anyone got any tips for backpacking in South America? I've saved up around $10,000 AUD, so money should be pretty much sorted. Also, am I totally fucked if I don't really know Spanish? I know the barest basics, and am taking a course a month in advance to help out a bit, but I'm still concerned.

Apart from that, what are must do things in these countries in my time frame? I'm spending my birthday/xmas/NYE in Valparaiso and then going down to Patagonia for three weeks. Thanks.

Check out Calama as you head down the coast of Chile or if you decide to hit Bolivia. Bolivia is awesome BTW. i was lucky though, when i was in Calama their was and illegal desert rave party going on and that shit was awesome.

Valparaiso, Chile is a must hit spot bud, its about an hour an a half outside of Santiago. Its got some siiiiick graffiti art on the majority of its buildings. Its perfectly legal to paint on the buildings with a permit. Its like the San Fransisco of South America.i would spend a few days their. From here you could hit Calama. I backpacked south america without knowing any spanish. I meet people who did though and we traveled together, shit was amazing.

Cordoba Argentina has some of the pretties women i have ever seen in my life. i mean holy shit. Its home to one of the largest universities in Latin America, so hit that shit up amigo.

I really wish i knew spanish though bud, it would have opened up my whole fucking world. Im learning it now though, Round two incoming!!!

Picture related, Valparaiso Chile!

Wonderful, thank you. I'll keep it in mind as I'll be passing through the Atacama for a few days anyway, so I might as well head there :)

Desert raves sound cool, anything else you can tell me about that? It's mostly meant to be an outdoors/hiking/climbing/horse riding kind of trip rather than a party one, but you've piqued my interest.

I went to Peru 2 years ago. Maybe you could go to Arequipa or do the Inca trail. I enjoyed both.

Otherwise if it is not indiscreet, how did you manage to save up 10.000$? I'm a 18-year-old fella who don't receive a lot of money except few bills from family or summer jobs.

I'm looking for a nice holiday next spring. I like vast landscapes, i.e. the north of Canada and also Wandering around the caucasus in Georgia really appealed to me.
Thought about alaska or Russia, but since I'm in Germany alaska is out of my budget atm and I'd actually like to speak Russian before going there since even in Georgia getting around in English wasn't that easy.
Any suggestions?

Talk about going WWOOF'ing.

Share experiences, rant about strange hosts, etc.

I'm heading out in January to do my first term WWOOF'ing. No clue how it's going to be, but I expect hard work and healthy food, so I can lose the flab I have on my stomach.

Also, I'm so, so sorry, homely elderly Japanese farmer couple, but my experience with quiet, manga-loving girls is the exact opposite of what you think.

I'm sorry your daughter-fu isn't who you expect.
>>
I stayed with 3 hosts in Japan. It is important to clarify beforehand:
1. how well can you two communicate
2. how much time are you expected to give
3. what is your level of interaction with the host (not just "get your food at gtfo")
4. how many WWOOFers are staying at the host?

Overall a good experience.

I've gotten all that taken care of. They're nice and chatty the people I'm gonna stay with.

What visa did you enter on? My embassy wants me to enter on a working holiday visa, which requires a fuckload of paperwork and cash to get.

Hey guys,

I'll be in Berlin for 4 days in October. I've already been thrice, but always with family, and they are not interested in the underground/bohemic/etc stuff. Now I'm going with friends, so here's my chance. What kind of places could you recommend, that makes Berlin the Berlin we hear so much about? I'm thinking flea markets, thrift shops, clubs, pubs, stuff like this. Thanks in advance.

I've flown them twice, several years back, they were neither notably wonderful nor particularly terrible. My memory is there were jokes about their safety record at the time, but jokes are not data -- if you are concerned maybe look into that, just to cover your bases.

Like almost all airlines, despite the praise of those who are fans of a few, or the fulminations of those who hate others, airlines are not that different -- they all offer you a moderately unpleasant experience (in coach, at least) with the benefit that you are allowed to get to your destination quickly or, in some cases, at all.
>>
>>1166042
I think a poor safety record should be the only criteria for rejecting an airline which is otherwise cheaper/more convenient. A few inflight peanuts and meals aren't worth $400.

http://www.jacdec.de/airline-safety-ranking-2015/

It's good enough, go for it.

I've flown China Southern to from LAX to Bangkok via Guangzhou. They're fine I just remember the seats were had almost no padding and the terminal at Guangzhou having absolutely no food options. That sounds bad but considering how cheap they are it's totally worth flying with them.

>Manhattan

The most famous borough by far and the center of NYC. NYC revolves around Manhattan more or less, but Manhattan is not the only important borough.

It's very densely populated, and the area from the Southern tip of Manhattan to 59th st basically serves as a giant "Downtown" (in the traditional sense for NYC.

North of 59th street is more residential but very densely populated still.

>Brooklyn
Most populous borough, very densely populated. Ranges widely in neighborhood type, like all the other boroughs. Brownstone Brooklyn (the parts of Brooklyn near the East River) has become super gentrified over the years, and is extremely expensive now.

Brooklyn in general varies widely. It is probably my favorite borough.

>Staten Island

Least populous and least densely populated borough, sort of isolated because the subway doesn't go there and is kind of a long drive from Manhattan. The North Shore is pretty urban but much of Staten Island is pretty suburban for NYC standards.

>Queens

Very densely populated but also has some suburbanish areas in the Eastern portion. Extremely diverse. Generally low crime with some exceptions.
>The Bronx

Very densely populated, and is the poorest borough to my knowledge. Most neighborhoods are either poor or working class. However it's still not particularly dangerous anymore. Some neighborhoods are nicer than others.

Home of Yankee Stadium

Overall it has a lot of positives and isn't as bad as people say. I can definitely see parts of The Bronx gentrifying.

I'm going to be traveling outside of my country for the first time in my life (also my first time traveling solo) and want to go to Europe for about a month (probably in march since that's the slow time for my work)
My current LOOSE plan is to fly to Prague then take the train to Berlin then to Amsterdam then pairs and finally Barcelona spending a week in each city. I plan on staying in hostels along the way (due to their social nature so that I might be able to meet people who also speak English)
I am interested in food and drink, museums, night life, meeting people. I'm not interested in drug use or whore houses.
I'll be 22, I don't speak a second language and I will be relying on public transport and walking to get around.
Is there somewhere I should spend more time, somewhere I should spend less time? Is there a place on my list that you don't think is worth going to, a place not on my list that should replace it? also looking for input as to whether to stay in a hostel or hotel.
any and all advice is welcome whether is pertains to my questions or not.

Doesn't anyone from USA (east coast tri-state area preferably) want to travel the world starting September 2017 ? I want to get a small group of maybe 4 people to do a RTW trip with. Age range 24-31 years old. We would all collaborate together to come up with an itinerary and plan. I'm a nembie traveler that never even left the USA, and want to embark on this adventure. It would be cool if an experienced traveler wants to come along, but mainly looking for other newbies to share this with.

Straight simple question.

How long will £1500 last me in Vietnam, Cambodia, and Thailand.

Living on a cheap as possible budget and I also don't really drink etc so I won't be out partying and stuff.

Thanks

I spent about £1000 in 5 weeks. That was for private rooms with a/c. So you could definitely could go cheaper. I remember there was a dorm room for $1 per night in Cambodia.
>>
>>1170007
Okay, well I'm thinking of making this last around 3/4 months? I'm going with another person and we both have £1500 and we have found hostel rooms for £5 between us for a night, so £2.50 a night each and then food daily
>>
First rule of travel is you always spend more than you think you will

I spent about £1000 a month in that region. I did party and drink a fair bit but was cheap on food and accommodation.

With Brexit your money is now worth 20% less than mine was. I'd say 6 weeks.

Or other security pouch options.

I've been looking into getting a belt loop pouch (picture) but can't find one that has a long enough "cord" and be lockable at the zipper by a padlock. Does anyone know one that has these qualities.

I've been to like 9 countries where all the Internet forums say you need to be overly cautious with your wallet and use money belts and shit. All I have ever done is carry my wallet in my front pocket and have situational awareness and everything has been fine
>>
>>1169823
>situational awareness

This.

But if wearing a money belt or whatever makes you more able to relax and enjoy yur travels, go for it.
>>
>>1169823
Money is one thing.

Your passport is worth more then money and a money belt isn't a bad idea to keep it safe. If you get it for that purpose, it also makes sense to leave some emergency cash in there too.

I had a nice time there, I saw loads of egon shiele paintings, beetoven's grave, little hedgehogs on the street and there's this crazy theme park called Prater that runs 24 hrs, theres a roller coaster that is a pitch dark room with these flashy lights, it felt like and lsd trip or something.

I wouldn't say it is overrated but it is definitely expensive.

There are some great palaces and museums, and there is overall lots of great history throughout the city.

Schönbrunn Palace is a great alternative to Versailles, especially given the hordes of tourists at the latter.
