I came back home after living in a continent for almost a year. After that it was weird. Most of the people I met was acting weird with me. When I happened to walk by past them I would wave or say hi, and they would ignore me like I never existed; or when I have a conversation with someone e.g. from work, there's just nothing to talk about anymore.
I am beginning to feel isolated, depressed and feeling the consequences. I am getting lesser hours from work, people I try to talk to seems to be fake and hostile. The only friend I talk to is a high school friend whom I never see face to face anymore, but online.

Does anyone here feel this way also? What is happening, and what do I do?

obviously we can't really know exactly what's going on from that alone, but yeah, I feel like this, but probably for very different reasons

people naturally connect emotionally to people who share their experiences.

having experienced many different things, you now naturally have less commonality with people.

people don't connect often on a purely intellectual level. so you can't talk to them about what you came to "understand" or whatever, but neither can you share your emotions with them.

congrats, you got a little older. it's natural.

you can either go back to having a somewhat limited perspective, and enjoy the same things as your peers again, and in exchange gain emotional warmth again, or you can continue to push traveling, and slowly become less relateable to normal people.

I haven't found a way out. I just try to keep contact with my closest friends, who drift away one by one. I speak three languages now, and I've found people in one of those languages relate to me a liiiittle better.

we're just getting old anon. find a wife and pop out some kids.

Not even trying to be rude, but what did you expect? A year is quite awhile, no matter how you cut it. Many people find a degree of separation that """extreme""" to be very distancing, but all that should tell you is that you were never super intimate friends in the first place if the responses you listed when you came back are what you experienced. You have some cool adventures under your belt now and that counts for a lot more than just staying put. I'm not saying flaunt it around, but you can safely know to yourself you've experienced things the vast majority won't.
>>
>>1166999
I can easily interact with all kinds of people. I do sometimes keep a distance with people who are sometimes energy drainers people who are just all drama. But, I have accepted that I'm primarily introverted and need a lot of time on my own. Don't overthink or overanalyze. The right people will be accepting and the others you really don't need in your life anyway.

Hey, /trv/, I'm going to take a trip with my girl in December probably and I'm wondering if Mongolia is worth it for a few days? I don't really hear anything about Mongolia, has anyone been?

Considering I live in Japan so this would not be a long flight, do you think Mongolia would be worth it for a few days?

I've heard a couple of stories about mongolia, one of them was about hiring a guide and horseriding the steppes

it sounded pretty cool. something on my bucket list, but maybe not something I want to immediately do.

hope others can be more help
>>
Bump, thanks guys.
>>

There are a number of people here who have discussed Mongolia... great natural beauty; steppes, Plains, deserts. Horses. Camels in some parts. Among the least densely populated countries on Earth if you like wide open spaces.

But I'm not sure December is a great time to visit--Mongolia is famously, ferociously cold in the winter. Also very dark.

The sad part is that the desecration, destruction and financial rape of ancient history was a goal of the group that invaded there. There won't be any reason for tourists to visit interesting places of the past anymore.

Hi guys
i want to travle Australia. Feel the vibe, and culture. I am going to travle alone, because my friends are either broke, retarded or enlisted in the army. Im from europe btw.

Anyway, this backpacking trip will be challenging, since ive never visted Australia before. Inb4 visit another country.
What should i do there?
Where should i visit?
Where to sleep/eat?

What states did you want to visit?
>>
Thought about the north coast, i want to learn how to surf and shit atleast
>>
If you want to experience Australia for what it is, you should go during our summer or spring. It will be hot as fuck for someone coming from Europe, but if you go in winter it would just be like visiting a less cultured, less interesting version of Europe, so you may as well go to America.

>What should i do there?
It would probably be best to spend most of your time on the east coast. We are well known for our beaches and there are plenty of good ones to visit. The two meme ones are the Gold coast in Queensland and Bondi beach in Sydney.

As far as major cities go, they don't really have too much to offer, at least much less than European cities - aside from the capital cities, city tourism mainly relies on beaches and other natural attractions. Visiting Sydney probably a good idea, however.

One good region to visit (quite a large region) is the north coast of NSW. There are quite a few nice coastal cities and towns, such as Byron Bay, Coffs Harbour, Nambucca Heads and Port Macquarie. Keep in mind these are quite a distance apart. These will be good if you are into beach life and want to experience that aspect of Australia.

Another region I highly recommend from my experience is the Blue Mountains region. Aside from a number of cosy small towns like Bowral, there are tonnes of outdoor/scenic activities due to the Blue Mountains national park.

Also worth visiting on the east coast is the south coast of NSW. There are a couple of good coastal, beachy cities like Kiama, but I found the best aspect of this region to be the small towns such as Berry which can be quite relaxing and comfy.

As for more inland regions, you'll have to travel a bit further, however they show a completely different side of Australia and in my opinion are just as interesting than the coastal cities as far as culture goes. The quintessential ones to visit are Armidale, Orange, Bathurst, Mudgee, Cowra and Goulburn (in my opinion).

Interested in travelling around Taiwan in November or December for around two weeks or so, most likely in a group. Any tips or advice? Recommended destinations? Hidden gems, or places to avoid?

Budget isn't a huge concern, although we're looking at staying in hostels. Any advice about Taiwan is very much appreciated.

The north has Jiufen, the oceanside town that Spirted Away was based on. For sights, Taipei

has 101, Elephant Mountain, Taiwan Democracy Memorial Park, and Tamshui. For art, it has

Huashan 1914 Creative Park, Songshan Creative Park & MajiMaji. If you like Myanmarian food,

go to Huaxin rd aka "Little Burma". Night Marketwise, Raohe & Linjiang have tons of good

food.

The east coast is a nature lovers paradise, you have Yilan / Hualien / Taidong. Yilan I've

yet to go to, but have heard the scenery's good, and it has the Kavalan Whiskey distillery.

Hualien has Taroko Gorge which is impressive. Taidong can take you to some of the outer

islands, Green Island & Orchid Island.

Down south, you have Tainan, Kenting, and Kaohsiung.

Tainan is the old capital, and now the food center of Taiwan. If you like history, go to

Anping or Chikan Tower. For art, go to Qimei Museum, The Cultural Center or Xinmei rd. For

eating as much good food as you can, just walk around Guohua rd / Youai rd, or go to Huayuan

night market. You can also get to Penghu Island from Anping.

Kaohsiung is a lot like Tainan, but with more western influence. Here you can find good

European / American food. As for places to see, go to Pier 2, LDR, Xiziwan, Lotus Pond, Fo

Guang Shan Temple, Monkey Mountain, Rueifang night market, Cijian Island, Xiaoliuqiu.

Kenting is where everybody goes to the beach.

As for the west, you have Alishan National Park if you like ancient trees. Ershui / Jiji for

cycling in rice paddies / mountains. Yuanlin for a good small town experience. Taichung for

Indian food and Luce Chapel. Miaoli for Tea Sage Hut.

Lmk what you're in to and I can give you more specific suggestions
>>
I'm going to be doing a layover in Kaohsiung for 23 hours. What are things I can do to fill up that time?

Taipei is great, been there twice with my family and have never been anywhere I liked more. In Taipei I'd recommend going up Elephant Mt. to see the city from a cool angle. In general you'll find good food everywhere.

On a related note, if I'm there alone for the first time in a for months as an 18 year old, is there any chance I can find other Americans in my age group to hang out with?

Any brothers of the Craft get out there & visit other lodges / meet other brethren when on the road, in the finest Masonic tradition?

Has anybody else ever felt like they were completely and utterly overwhelmed by where they were for irrational or inexplicable reasons?

Whenever I walked the streets of Tokyo, even with a group of fellow foreigners like me and with a year's worth of Japanese language learning under my belt, I felt a very acute yet impermeable uneasiness, like I wanted to go back to my hotel room and stay there to watch TV, I felt as though the flashing lights and the people and the sounds were converging in on me, and I had to go.

Two years later I went to India, and navigated the most crowded, the most loud, the most smelly, and the most chaotic streets I have ever seen in my life. Never before had I imagined horns and streets to be this loud and common, and groups of this amount of people and the sheer volume I was seeing was inconceivable. Pile on top of that the disfigured cripples who panhandled for money, the mal-nourished children rubbing their stomachs and mouths, the hunch-backed old crones, the touts and scammers trying to suck you dry of every rupee you have, the vigilance needed in order to not step in cow shit, and finally, the constant and ever-present fear of theft, murder, or rape, if you're a woman.

Yet for all of these things I felt in India, It never came close to the level of fear I experienced when walking through the avenues of Akihabara, or anything else for that matter. For all the terrors I experienced or was at risk of experiencing in India, I went on with a quiet yet collected professionalism, even as my tennis shoes were stolen from the temple I visited. In Japan there was something different, and obviously something that would make me feel worse than what I did in India. In fact, living in Las Vegas Nevada, I get the same feeling I got in Tokyo as I do whenever I have the misfortune of visiting the strip, which gives me the same shivers and chills that Tokyo does, with similar anxious effects. Does anybody else know this feel?

Unless you had a Canadian flag on your backpack, gtfo.

Well gents its time I cross this mother off my bucket list being in So Cal most of my life meant i was stuck with Disneyland cause going to Disneyworld at that time costed a arm and a leg (still does).

I'm combining my vacation days along with Thanksgiving (my anus is already puckered up for lines) to make it a 5 full Disney world day trip. What can you Disney world vets offer in terms of advice?

>>
>>1166621
It sounds like you realize it's going to be busy. And believe me, it's going to be extremely busy with long lines, tons of tourists complaining about how other people are in the park (well duh, it's a holiday and people have the day off), and exhausted cast members missing their family. Thanksgiving day (and the weekend) will be crazy, but the evening around dinner time should mellow out.

Pack a lot of patience, realize all the nice restaurants are already booked, and just enjoy spending time with your friends/family.
>>
>>1166692
My game plan is to ride the attractions really early (when kids still asleep) and really late ((when kids going to sleep) in between them I'll ration out the 3 fastpass per day limit to the most popular rides. Thanksgiving in theory should be relatively calm (everybody eating turkey) so I should be able slam all kinds of rides and Sunday should be less hectic

Im really thinking in moving out of the US.
Ive been a resident here for about 13 years. I dont have any criminal background, and i have a bullshit bachelor's degree.
I am Mexican, the upcoming election really worries me. It worries me that my residency can be taken at any time and ill be thrown to that shithole that is mexico, and be killed because my spanish is not proper and im a "nortern with "money". The place that i come from is like that, i just had some familly killed.
And no, i cant just become a citizen. Its compicated.

What are palces that are easy to migrate to?
Ive done the move once, and i can do it again. Learning languages and being accustomed to a different culture is not a problem.

If i sell all my assets plus ehatever i have in savings, ill probably have around 50k USD to play with

Any mexican expats here? That arent in USA?

Why don't you spend the next year or two nailing down a very useful master's degree, using the land of opportunity and income you can do to multi-task a degree and work both.

Then, you can think about emigrating somewhere that actually might give a damn about you. You're right in that a basic bachelor's isn't that easy to market. Maybe you'd even be happy teaching English...but the best jobs want that Master's.

Im very pessimistic so i always try to be ready for the worst.
Thats why im looking ahead to see whcih places i can go before its too late and i am forced to go to mexico.
Idk about teaching English, specially since its not my first language i will probably be less desired.
