Hey /trv/, me and my girl are wanting to head to an all inclusive over Christmas/new years. Leaving on the 27th of dec.

Whats the cheapest/most bang for your buck option? We're coming from Canada and would pref something in the Caribbean. Cuba would be ideal, but would prefer wherever is cheapest. What would you all recommended? Also what sites are the best to purchase from? Or would we be better off booking flights and hotel rooms ourselves and not going through something like sunwing.
Thanks!

A carribean cruise would be the most bang for your buck, though coming from Canada you have the added cost of getting to the port.
>>
Fellow canadianbro here, I travel to Cuba 2-3 times a year.
Christmas/NYE is definately one the most expensive time of the year to go there, so try to go right after NYE or before xmas if your budget is tight.
I won't even talk about the other destinatipns such as Cancun or Punta Cana, since Cuba is always cheaper.
You can directly shop on Sunwing, you won't find a lower price anywhere else.

What kind of place are you looking for? How old are you? Do you want a peaceful secluded resort? Do you wanna go out to nightclubs every day? What's your budget and where are you flying from?
>>
>>1169455
i get motion sick real easy / we wanna be able to go and leave the resort when we get bored of it.

I have about ~$5000 saved up and plan on backpacking across Vietnam, and maybe Cambodia if I get that far. I don't plan on staying in 5 star hotels and eating at high end restaurants everyday, but is this enough for, say, a month of wandering the country and seeing what kind of wacky adventures I can stumble into?

>Cheap hotel/dorm - $5-20
>Local meal - 50c-$3
>Higher tier/western meal - $5-20
>Beer - 50c-$2

Yes you'll be fine. You will have plenty left over to splurge on fancy accommodation/souvenirs/whatever.
>>
That is enough for a month. Rent a nice scooter and you're good to go. You will find decent hotels for $15 - $20 a night. You could find them for less too, Ive stayed in places for as little as $6/night.

You can eat 3 meals for $5. I found really good pho for $1.60 usd. When I realized how cheap food was I was paying $15/day for good food rather than double portions of street food.
>>
1500$ a month is enough without trying too hard in 90% of the places of the world.

You won't spend more than 4k including everything flights and vaccination etc.

Pretty much this. I'm slightly more optimistic though and like the idea of building a new world and branch of human culture.....but even if the thing just fucking explodes and kills everyone a minute after liftoff, those few who attempt will achieve immortality in a sense. If you've got a comfy life, career , and are happy with your current and lokley prospects for the future I can see why you would be afraid, resentful, or just apathetic about this notion though.

Hey Anons, is doing a road trip from SF to Vancouver during November a bad idea? I'm asking because I hear the weather is shit there and it is almost always raining. Thinking about taking 4 days off to do so.

One day to drive to Portland and rest. Next day to get to know the place and drive to Seattle.

Second day same deal, get to know Seattle and drive to Vancouver and spend the night there.

Third day, get to know Vancouver and drive back to America to spend the night as far south as we can.

Forth day drive hxc to get back to SF.

Me n my m8 from Florida would be doing this, so we would be sharing the driving time.

Excuse my bad English

I was in the Tehran in April and best advice is don't respond to woman in street that flash you

Hard to explain but in street covered Muslim Iranian woman will flash gringos/foreigner and ask you to follow them for sex.

It happened to me and I almost was killed. I follow her she wasn't really covered just head scarf she was maybe 20? I went with her to her house and we start to kiss and I got her naked and I was in underwear. Her brother or cousin or i don't maybe 30 years old came in and start to choke me.. Lucky I am 195 cm and do training judo so I was able to get free. But he chased me in the street with knife later but I got away.

I've been doing a lot of driving recently, and have been running out of music.

What do you guys listen to when you drive/ride the train/etc?

I'll throw some shit down. Stuff I listen to normally, but more often then not it's the only stuff I can listen to when driving.

WTF are you guys on about? It's a /trv/ story about a woman, at 90 years, instead of trying eke out a few more years, made the most of the time she had left with an endless road trip.

It should be inspiring that it's never too late, but also at the same time inspire you to not wait until you are 90 to seize the day.

Pick one.

Your best bet would be to couch surf or AirBnB in the DC area, somewhere within distance of a Metro. Most of the National Monuments and Museums are free. If you have more cash and time you could take a train/plane/bus to NYC, find alternate lodging and look at the buildings and places you have seen on TV.

i'm very interested in the German language and hope to visit someday. i plan on going to school for it in Cleveland and it would help to get some insight from anyone that speaks it or even some some native people from Germany.

Learning a second language is useful if you will use it.

It might be very useful if you plan to work somewhere in Europe where it could be used.

It's very unlikely you would ever use it in the USA, but you should follow your interests.

It's free for foreigners to study at the university level in Germany, btw.

A lot of people are trying to learn German in order to go to a University for free. I self studied before going to my local university to sign up for an advanced German course. I started off using apps to learn words such as Memrise, then I started reading and translating childrens books starting from books you would read as a small child first starting school. Then goosebumps from R.L. Stein, and then Harry Potter and Eragon. By the time I started reading popular novels I had a pretty decent vocabulary. I started speaking it using Google Translate voice option and it picked up most of my words I pronounced correctly. The most awkward part was looking for German native speakers to have a conversation with. I paid tutors to speak to me in German who were all pretty happy that I had already started learning and past the "ja, nein, bette, danke, hallo" stage. I traveled to Frankfurt for 2 weeks and whenever I spoke to someone I asked them to correct my grammar. I am far from fluent as a native speaker but Germans have not gave me a hard time with speaking their language I think because they know I am at least trying. I often wonder if they get pissed when Americans talk to them and just expect the Germans to know English.

Man, I can't express my thanks for this site. I have been wanting to pursue a master's degree and live in Germany but the fear of costs and difficulty of admission have kept me from spending much time researching the possibility. With this, the misconceptions I held were cleared so thank you. Do you know anything about the chance of finding work in Germany after the program is complete?

Currently on my first ever holiday to Vietnam and staying at a really nice 3 star hotel. How much does housekeeping usually make per week/month? And how much should I be tipping?

This morning I left 100,000 dong (lol) on the desk with a note but I realized that was only $5-ish. Is this too much or too little (by Vietnamese standards).

TL;DR What is a generous tip for Housekeeping in Vietnam? (Something that will leave them with a smile)

I've been really interested in going to Morocco lately. I'm interested in Northen Africa in general and Morocco seems to be the safest and most stable country to go to right now.
Problem is I know very little french and no Arabic. Would it be terribly difficult to travel around anyway?
Also I can fly directly to either Agadir or Marrakech which city is the best base if I want to travel around a bit in the country?

Morocco is a really nice country, I went there about a year ago and it inspired me to go all around the Middle East

You'll be fine with just English in the major cities and tourist areas, but it wouldn't hurt to learn a little bit of French. Even the basics would be really helpful. Don't bother with Arabic, the Moroccan accent is so strong even other Arabs can't understand it, so you'd have no chance.

For Agadir/Marrakesh, it depends on what you want to see. Marrakesh would probably be better in my opinion as it's close to the Atlas mountains and the desert, and you can get trains to the other cities fairly easily, even if trains in Morocco can be a bit shit (my train from Casablanca to Marrakesh was 2 hours late and the toilet was literally a hole onto the track). You can definitely fly into Marrakesh too, but I'm not sure about Agadir.
>>
>>1166357
Thanks! I'll try with some basic French then.

I definitely want to check out the mountains so Marrakesh sounds perfect.

>I definitely want to check out the mountains
That's so nice to hear instead of the usual
>is $600 a good deal for a one-night camel trek? I've only got 36 hours in the country.
I go hiking in the Atlas every year so I could answer any of your questions in that regard.
Definitely learn as much French as you possibly can. It'll make the difference between you only being able to communicate with 90% of Moroccans, or only with people who want your money. Michel Thomas+Duolingo+LP phrasebook = fast track French

Marrakech is a horrible introduction to Morocco (hasslers, scams, rudeness, etc) but there's nothing of interest in Agadir, unless you want to access the southern 1/3 of the country.
