Experiencing a minor quake gives you an interesting travel story. The odds against having trouble with a major one a pretty long: would you be afraid to go to California?

In the US, the south is more slow tempo. But you don't want methland, racial tension, fat ass, deep south. I'd say consider Austin, Texas, but you'd be very late to the party.
