I watched the first 12 or so episodes til they beat the big bad in the underdark, then jumped ahead to the episode after Orion leaves just to spare myself the drama. Halfway through now (ep 42) and loving it.

Perfect emulation is not something tabletops are capable of. Ultra in-depth simulation of that kind is better undertaken by computers that can number crunch away.

What tabletop RPG's and such excel at is capturing an authentic feel, tone and creating an experience from it. Using just enough details to keep things consistent and ensure they all fit together to let the group storytelling being undertaken go ahead without unnecessary restrictions.

What do yous think of putting puzzles in dungeons?

Are they fun or do they just disrupt the flow?
What are some good puzzles that avoid the typical 'Red Key in the Red Hole' cliche?

puzzles normally are useless because it tests the players and not the characters so it become a problem when the players cannot solve it or when they solve it but there are only stupid characters in the party.

It can be done, but I believe it would be more rewarding to do a simple quest, even just a fetch quest to complete the red key to open the red door.

A good puzzle in my opinion would be something that requires knowledge of the world they play in.
For example, if you play CoC, and a player know a detail because he read the books, that is a good "puzzle" in my opinion.

I just had my first session as a DM last night and built what was essentially a test dungeon both for my own skills, my players, and their characters. I had a puzzle that involved objects related to some gods needing to be placed in the hands of a statue and a riddle to help tease out the solution and alternative solutions. It was completely optional and they could have advanced without solving it, but there was a motif of the Ioun (the goddess of knowledge, prophecy and skill) throughout the dungeon and thus the puzzle itself was integrated into the overall narrative. The various objects and solutions I am using to foreshadow and plant story seeds.

It was very difficult to make a genuine dungeon puzzle not break immersion and feel like it belonged. Barring a situation like that where a person/thing in the narrative specifically builds a puzzle as a test, or a mad wizard being obtuse for the sake of it, they don't make much sense.

Because traditionally wizards in RPGs have a great amount of power, which is then balanced by being slow and weak, ie the 'Glass Cannon' sort of shit.

The reason the wizards in the video you posted aren't slow and frail is twofold. One, it's a video game, and a fast-paced one at that. And two, you can only be a wizard, there's no class balance needed. It doesn't matter if a non-wizard would fall behind, because you can't be a not a wizard.

Went to the bathroom quickly while it was combat turn to take a leak. Finish, wash my hands really quickly and all hurried like because I didn't want to miss much of the combat, it was a hard fight and I was playing a buffing cleric so I had to keep good track of the flow of combat. Come back running to the table. People stare at me weird.

Fly was down.

I usually go commando.

Worse is, zipper was stuck and it took me a while to fix it so I couldnt just casually sit and zip. I had to turn around and do it really obvious.

There was a girl in the group. I never went back to that game.

Games Workshop says were approaching the Time of Ending. If this is a reference to the end of the era as we know it then it could mean the emperor dies on the throne with his body finally giving in, or possibly as told in prophecy and hinted at in all the editions that Emperor will be made flesh again.

Would you table the Emperor and his forces in a game?
What impact could this have on the core of the game itself? Would SM chapters still be relevant for sales if the Emperor is a playable unit?

Very interesting but wouldnt that be too much from a production standpoint to create new units for each Primarch or would they be tied to their already released chapters which could work?

This should also bring back the SOB as some kind of rebel faction possibly where from the emperor all Primarchs are declared mutants to be destroyed? it would be like a second horus heresy all over again?

What kind of homebrew modifications do you make to CP2020, if any?

Makes the fails spectacular and the successes equally so. Taking the critical chances from 10% down to 3% while making other rolls more varied

To add on to the previous edit crits don't auto succeed/fail but cause dice to explode. This makes moments feel more cinematic and a bit more realistic. When you roll a 12 you roll an extra d6 and add that to your total. Get another 6 and you get to keep rolling. Same for rolling snake eyes. Roll an extra d6 and subtract from your roll(negative numbers are okay)
>Initiative
Putting a limit on initiative actions allowed to each player. They can only take 2 combat actions and 1 non-combat action. These actions will take place at your initiative value, and then you next action will take place at -5 from that initiative value and so on. Actions still get the penalty as before.
>Awareness/Notice and Hide/Evade Based on Cool
Flavor change, so Super Solos don't necessarily have to be Einstein, but they can Rambo
>Gun Skills
Condensing the Gun skills into three categories. Handguns, Rifles, and Heavy Weapon. If you fire it one handed you use your Handgun skill. Two hands use Rifle. If it's unwieldy use Heavy Weapons

>Stat Changes
Adding a new stat: HS(Humanity Score) which will take over half of what empathy used to cover. This is also a flavor change. It was odd how min maxed super solos started with the empathy of Mother Theresa. It also allows a Hannibal Lector type character to be played(i.e. someone with great people skills who is incredibly insane). To deal with the 10th stat You can start with 65 Character points instead of 60(Feel free to adjust for whatever power level game you want to play)


This part is super optional, and I'm not going to give details unless anyone wants to request it. >Classes
Doing away with the class system an dropping Career Skills from 60 to 50. Where are the Special Class skills? In a custom Edge and Hindrance system a la GURPS and Deadlands.

I doubt the churchies will know what a fire warrior is anyway unless you frequent church with 40k buffs.

Again, wire mesh and papier mache.
You can make a wire mesh mould of your head and then work upwards from there. Use pencil to mark eye level and then alter the shape accordingly til you can plonk a suitably large monocular red lens at eye level.
Safe to say, have some tau fire warrior models handy. Unpainted if possible, to better look at the shape.
