So how edgy is it, on a scale of 1 to edge, to make magic in a setting drain and corrupt the life force of nearby people and nature itself? Creating freak storms, droughts as well as monsters as the more it is used?

>On a scale of 1 to edge?

Dark Sun

That's why the setting is post-apocalyptic.
>>
>>49560887

Dark Sun ruins the concept by making it too closely entwined with the 'plot' of the world.

So I am working on a campaign that will feature the players taking over the role of Big Goddamn Heroes from the old immortal heroes. However, I have this idea that the players will first play out a scene where the old heroes win over The Old Ancient Evil. The idea is that five players will play as five pre-made characters of really high level, and then right before the climax of the battle, the real game will begin with the actual characters.

Has anyone done something like this? Anyone wanna share any stories about it and such?

Bump. No one?

This seems like a good idea. I've had it before, but never really had an opportunity or desire to use it.
>>
>>49561032
What do you mean "you've had it before"?

So what's the /tg/ scene like in Australia?

Specifically Sydney (specifically north of the river >_>) , but I'm a giving and curious man, I'd like to hear about the rest, too.

I've played videofriends all my life and have plenty of people to play those with, but I've got few people to play boardgames with, and they have limited time to do it, and with some friends they're really just being polite.

And you can forget about RPGs. I've squeezed out about 10 hours of pnp games out in my life (save playing Heroquest as a kid with my dad) with some videogamer friends but they weren't super into it and I don't want to play RPGs online - I wanna be there and in the moment, among other things

I know literally no one that's played RPGs or modern boardgames in my day-to-day life if I haven't been the one to introduce them to it.

I'm sick of reading stuff like /tg/ everyday for no reason, or watching SU&SD for games I can't justify buying

So I'm at the point where I'll have eat my anxiety and go try my luck with random pugs in the wild but gaming stores are already rare enough, let alone having to roll the dice (figuratively) trying to find a bunch of randoms you get on with (and who aren't That Guys).

Anyone have any success in the wild playing games with random Aussie grognards?

Anyone know any cool places with games around the city?

Anyone just want to talk about /tg/ in our crusty dypostia?

Shit

Perth has a gaming guild that rents out a community center every Saturday from twelve to twelve, has around 4-6 groups in the afternoon and 2-3 in the evening. Plus a couple of gaming stores scattered around the greater metropolitan area and several wargaming clubs.

There meetup based groups and the like.
>>

I've lived in every state:
>Gaming scene is weak in Western Australia. Restricted largely to local groups and small gaming clubs. There are a couple of corporate gaming stores, maybe two Games Workshops, and one really good store based in the basement of an old bank.
>Same deal in Northern Territory, but with fewer gaming clubs. One GW, one Good Games.
>Adelaide pretty solid. The usual spread of GW's and Good Games, but there are a lot of little independent stores everywhere. They're viciously competitive though - don't let them know you go to the corporate stores if you do.
>Queensland: Cairns resembles Darwin but with less infrastructure, Brisbane pretty good.
>Sydney: I was so busy in Sydney that I never got out to game. Seemed like there were a decent number of stores about.
>Gaming scene is on-fucking-fire in Canberra. Politicians kids are some cashed up fuckers. Sore losers though. Jolt Games is a great venue.
>Melbourne: Spoiled for choice. All the corporate stores you could want, dozens of independents, massive 'hang-out' community, Facebook groups abound, gaming clubs in every suburb. This is the traditional gaming mecca of Australia
>Hobart: Surprisingly good. Four stores with dozens of active players, mostly within walking distance of each other. I guess they don't have anything else to do with their 7 hour winter days and constant rain.
>Norfolk Island: I asked a guy if he knew any local miniature gamers and he directed me to a senior citizens centre where they were gluing model airplanes together. Great bunch of dudes. 10/10. Would glue airplanes and talk about the Korean War with again.

What kind of pansy ass barbarians are you? You guys never stand up for yourselves and let have those Nighties or whatever the fuck their called do all the fighting. When trouble comes you just run and hide. No wonder he gets to boss you around. I mean some Poleis keep a few of the best guys under arms full times to drill and train, but this is just shameful.

Let me tell you something: a REAL FREE man stands and fights to defend his family, his Polis and himself with all his fellows with shield and spear.

But of course, /tg/'s gonna demand storytime, so I'll get to typing.

>>49557021
You don't. Just let him do his thing and get his feet wet.
>>
>>49557021
He'll figure that out as he goes along. Don't be a dick and start asking about all the far away lands and rolling history checks to fuck with him.
>>
I'd say don't. If he has NPCs in mind, that's probably good enough to start. Just let him know in game that you and your character are interested in who these people are and why they're doing what they're doing
If you can stop short of being annoying with it, he'll probably find it flattering if anything, and might be encouraged to come up with more detailed stuff as you go along
a few sessions of asspull lore before it reaches that stage won't hurt anyone

ITT: Bullshit Yu-Gi-Oh cards.

This motherfucker can negate the effect of a spell/trap/monster you activate, destroy them and THEN PUT THEM ON THEIR SIDE OF THE FIELD.

Completely ruins the combo of almost any deck. Makes the Dem Bois deck actually viable. It was added to y-go-pro a while ago.

I don't even play YuGiOh and I can tell you're a scrub by the way you complain.

Reading the card it doesn't even seem that bad, you have spawn a token with it to do that effect and it's completely telegraphed so you're opponent can just cast the least beneficial spell/trap.

Guys my crew and I wanna start playing D&D but we know shit about it, we only know that its a role game in a medieval era, so well all of us love that kind of tales and shit, we all read the lord of the rings and the name of the wind.

I actaully read funny green texts about D&D here in /tg/ but I dont know were to find the miniatures, the charts and other stuff, I found one rule book surfing the web but no more else.
I think I must watch videos about it or something, but if you guys have something better, please let me know, some advices for begginers what do or not.
*This is my first post, so if it isnt right to post something like this just say it.
one last thing, im so sorry if my english gets hard to read sometimes, I'm from mexico and I'm not so familiar with the languaje

You will need to get the Player's Handbook, the GM Guide, and the Monster Manual.

>Official /5eg/ Mega Trove v3:
https://mega.nz/#F!BUdBDABK!K8WbWPKh6Qi1vZSm4OI2PQ

>Pastebin with resources and so on:
http://pastebin.com/X1TFNxck

You don't really NEED miniatures, you can just use graph paper and little toys that fit on the grid. Someone will need to run the game (play as the monsters and shop keepers and regular town people), he is called the Game Master or the Dungeon Master (DM or GM). Everybody else just plays as one character and describes what they want to do and the GM narrates what happens.
>>
We actually get asked this a lot.

To start, some people will want to make sure you understand that there are more tabletop roleplaying games besides D&D. With that out of the way, the best way to begin is with D&D 5th Edition.

http://dnd.wizards.com/products/tabletop/players-basic-rules
http://dnd.wizards.com/articles/features/basicrules

Those links are for an introduction to the basic rules to give you a sense of the game, and for the rest you can stop by the 5e general thread to download all the books in full.

The easiest way to start actually playing is with the D&D 5e starter set. It costs about $20, and includes a physcial copy of the basic rules, character sheets, an adventure designed for new players, and even a set of dice. You will, however, want to buy more than one set, and the best deal on dice is one of the $20 bag of dice off of Amazon (with the Wizkids and Chessex brands being recommended for bulk, cheap dice).

All in all, you don't need miniatures if you're just starting, and can use anything from cardboard tokens to glass beads. For the most part, you can actually play 5e entirely without miniatures.
>>
A note on dice: it feels better to roll dice in person, but if you really can't afford dice or can't get them, you can roll online or something: https://www.wizards.com/dnd/dice/dice.htm

I would love to be captured by Dark Eldar.

Just being flayed , have them inject toxin which fires up every muscle in my body as they subject me to a torture device which directly fucks with my nervous system and have my bones melt would be fucking great but it still would be just a warm up. I wish they would also impale me, rip my jaw off, display in public and won't let me lose consciousness.

If you're enjoying it, they'll stop. They'll probably deaden every nerve in your body and then toss you into a sewage sump near the torture chamber. You'll be tormented by hearing others undergoing the torture you crave but couldn't even feel anyway. Plus you'll be covered in rancid dark eldar poop.
