D&D 4e General: Weebshit-free Edition
Remember to hide hengeyokai threads, ignore hengeyokai posts, and do not reply to hengeyokai posters.
If you are GMing, remember...
1. To strongly consider giving out at least one free "tax feat," like Expertise and pre-errata Melee Training.
2. To use Monster Manual 3/Monster Vault/Monster Vault: Nentir Vale/Dark Sun Creature Catalog math. Avoid or manually update anything with Monster Manual 1 or 2 math.
3. That skill challenges have always been scene-framing devices for the GM, that players should never be overtly told that they are in a skill challenge, and that the Rules Compendium has the most up-to-date skill DCs and skill challenge rules.
If you would like assistance with character optimization, remember to tell us what the what the rest of the players are playing, what books are allowed, your starting level, the highest level you expect to reach, what free feats you receive, if anything is banned, whether or not themes are allowed, your starting equipment, and how much you dislike item-dependent builds.
If you wish to talk about settings, 4e's settings are Points of Light (the planes and the natural world's past empires are heavily detailed in various sourcebooks and magazines), 4e Forgotten Realms, 4e Eberron, 4e Dark Sun, and whatever setting you would like to bring into 4e.

Thread Starter: What was the party composition of your last 4e game?

Essentials was a mistake
Except for the new expertise feats, I love those.

>Thread Starter: What was the party composition of your last 4e game?
Elf Hunter ranger / Tinker Gnome Artificier / Changeling Desert Wind Monk / Half-elf bard (with mark of storm) / Dwarf Fighter
Was an Eberron campaign, sadly died before it got off the ground.

I honestly like the idea behind the classes, plus the imbalanced hybrids are fun to build with/for.
I'm looking to play Kill Team but I've seen there are two versions: GeeDubs and HoR. Which do you prefer and why?
>>49505818
there IS a general for this, ya know >>49469744
>>49505873
People just seemed to be discussing their specific kill team, I just wanted to know which version I should play
>>49505818
Standard killteam for rules that dont work with every army, Limiters on what can be brought, and having to take a whole squad instead of the ones you want.
HoR for a feeling of custumizability, allows 2+ armor, typically removes MCs and gives you neat little almost HQs.
So what would a Space Marine chapter be like if they prefered to burrow underground in combat?
Think a entire chapter of Marines that can travel underground like well armored mole people. Including vehicles.
Well there are those siege drill things for Krieg on FW. Functionally I think they'd be no different in operation than your normal SM force- it'd still be treated as deep striking. You're just doing it from the ground instead of the skies.
I suppose you could cook up some homebrew rules where a certain radius around a deep striking unit now counts as difficult/dangerous terrain, maybe the vehicles have a bonus to tank shocking.
Brother, the xenos are coming this way
Ok then, we shall launch a suprise attack
>Marines begin to claw at the ground like animals
I laughed, thanks OP
>>49505797
Sounds like a Space Marine Chapter made out of...
...Squats...

Okay, so my party is about to get into a fight where it's almost certain one or more of them is going to die, and it's almost certainly going to be one of the two medics, because the enemy they'll be fighting is intelligent and has fought them before so the enemy knows what's up and who to target (also, one of the medics has made some tragically poor decisions about the calibre of their defensive gear).
So if one or more party members die, I can hand them an NPC sheet taken from the soldiers nearby, but the next stage of the session after the fight it doesn't make sense to have anyone other than specifically the party at the scene.
What should I do for players that have had character deaths, then? The NPC soldiers probably wouldn't be let in to the next stage, and there's not time to introduce additional members to the crew.
>>49504572
>The NPC soldiers probably wouldn't be let in to the next stage
Why not? And would it be possible to put a prisoner room after the BBEG?

Electricians sure as hell can be.
>An eccentric 24 years old millionaire is funding a group of memesters supporting a radical candidate's bid for presidency in an attempt to prove meme magic is real
Is it just me or does this sound like the basis for a great Unknown Armies campaign? How would you flesh this out?
>You ever met the kinda people that go to these Trump rallies? These dudes have got energy to spare!
>We're talking guys who beat off four times a day!

>prove meme magic is real
Sounds like he's going to get Sleeper'd unless Hillary gets there first.
A few options
>Sleeper campaign, try to keep the magickal bullshit to a minimum without getting public attention
>cabal of meme magicians traveling across the country to turn the people to their side
>avatar trying to use the clusterfuck that is this election to create the perfect conditions to ascend as something
>Clinton hit squads dealing with adepts and gutter mages, while seeking the Elixer of Life to keep her alive
>radical candidate
>radical
when you kill yourself, please post it online and link it in this very thread
>when your players cancel two hours before the game

>mfw today's game was going to be my only human contact this week
should I kill myself now?

Fuck them and go out.
Or stay in and wallow in self pity, whatever you want.

b-but today's sunday man
nobody goes out on sunday
So, what's actually playing a TTRPG face to face (as opposed to online) like? Isn't it awkward to sit across some fat neckbeard pretending to be a legendary swordsman, and next to an acountant in his 40s pretending to be a slutty bisexual elf princess? If I were invited to play a TTRPG IRL, I'd probably try roleplaying for the first three minutes before excusing myself, going home and crying in my pillow.
Everyone is a bit nervous. Drink some beer, it's there for a reason.

You might want to think about the assumptions you're making here.
Hi /tg/
How do I get into D&D?
What should I buy as a starter (aged 25)? I'm an absolute noob.
Warm wishes
Jonathan
do you have friends to play? if yes, then you dont need to buy anything

A simple straight forward module

If you enjoyed it get a core rule book, monster manual and dungeon masters guide and off you go
One golden rule for dungeon mastering for your journey: "don't say 'no', say 'yes, but...'"
if you dont, then find a group that can show you how it works. either way you dont need to buy anything to try it out. only moving forward
>>49503364
Well, he might need some dice. Or a dice-roller app.
>>49503364
Many thanks for the informative post. I'll look into it in detail this afternoon.
I have some friends that also want to start playing the game, but just like me they have zilch experience with the game.
What about the game sets that are being sold, like the "lords of waterdeep" or that "starter set"?
>>49503373
Which dice would I need then? I've seen lots of fancy ones in stores before, but I have no idea which ones are necessary to play this game.
My apologies for these silly questions. I should look this up, but while I'm at it... Well.
All the best
Jonathan

>Mark plays ranger or bardI can't remember well, was a few years ago
>generic "you all meet in a tavern" intro, we soon get hired by a dwarven woman to clear out her basement or something
>questioning her at her house, everyone starts getting the hang of roleplaying
>descend into dungeon, start murderhoboing
>Mark is a good role player, a good player, and a hilarious dude
>play for hours, everyone has a great time
>this game gets everyone into ttrpgs, eventually the founders of a D&D club at our high school
>after game
>Mark pulls out his laptop to show us some homebrew stuff or something
>he has fucking /tg/ open
>mfw
Even later, our DM who grew up with him told us a bunch of weird but funny stories about mark. Favourite one
>Mark is sick one day, doesn't show up to school
>feels better sometime through the day, decides to go to school even if late
>shows up to classroom when everyone is out at the time
>later
>class is being held
>teacher goes to cupboard to take something out
>opens the door, Mark casually walks out of it
>teacher doesn't know what to say
>keks were supposedly had
Mark if you're reading this, I want to play in one of your sessions.
>thinly veiled attempt to reunite with Mark
I wish you luck, OP.
I hope senpai notices you, OP.

Mark sounds like a real cool dude
What are some /tg/ approved boardgames?
Any? Any boardgame is /tg/ by nature.

>>49502283
Well of course, but which ones would you personally recommend? There's a difference between acknowledging they exist and actually liking them.
Nissa was the big thing, but I'm just super hyped that I got a skysovereign. Airships FTW

And a shit ton of Commons and un-commons.

He killed a villain and took his icy cold heart as a memento of all the evils that exist in the world that the paladin fights against. The sheer hatred in the heart has preserved it and the Paladin keeps it in a jar that he carries in his rucksack.
