I have no GM experience. Me and some of my friends want to try pen & paper RPGs but non of us have played before.
>>51019297
The more I run games, the less I am able to answer that question.
>>51019297
It depends at least in part on what system you're using, what did you have in mind?
>>51019297
If you're just starting, the best advice is to just start. Pick up a game, read the rules (and the advice on how to play in those rules), and just have fun.
All the best advice will just sound like common sense and will be forgotten about until you're a few sessions in, wondering what you can do to improve your game, and that's where the hard part begins. It's easy to know you're supposed to give each player their moments to shine, to let their decisions have impact on the story, and to do your best to make everyone enjoy a fair, but difficult, yet not punishing experience, and another thing altogether to remember all that while performing all the other tasks a GM must do.
So, for your first game, don't worry too much. Half of being a good GM is just being a good person, and if you're already playing with your friends you've got a good start. Just read the rules and the advice the writers offer you, be willing and ready to make mistakes, and just remember it's a game.
>little experience with D&D and roleplaying in general
>played a bit, tried DMing horribly in my youth (using terrible, terrible homebrews), but that doesn't count
>decided to learn DMing, but have noone to play with here and don't wanna go on roll20 and stuff without experience
>convince a buddy to play a solo campaign with me (he has little experience too)
Any tips? I thought I'd rather learn to improvise from get go, so as not to become a railroader as many new GMs do, so is it okay to just pick a setting, write a few generic quests & encounters and just give my player freedom? It's gonna be dungeon crawling for a while anyway, until we get hang of combat.
If it's just one guy, ask what he would like to do and then make the campaign about that.
>>51019114
You already chose a system? D&D doesn't really work with only one person (imo); it's a game about a team, not a solo adventurer.
I guess you could just use a bunch of NPCs you both control to some degree, but it sounds kinda eh.
>>51019142
I just want to learn D&D since it's most popular and stuff. Once I learn to D&D a bit, I can go on Roll20 and get some experience, and with experience I can tackle other systems.
This is the pinnacle of evolution Imperials, look closely
This is what peak performance looks like.

What are the best DnD campaign 'lets plays' out there or whatever they would be called?
So far I'm aware of 2 high quality efforts, the CriticalRole one GM'd by the guy that voices McCree in Overwatch and all his voice actor buddies and one I've barely started called Threshold which was recommended with high praise and starts off promising.
This is partly research as me and my friends are planning to create our own youtube channel where we publish our roll20 campaigns so if anyone has advice for what does and doesn't work in these campaign lets plays I'm all ears.
Might as well post the raw stream footage of our first session in case anyone cares to watch, this isn't our final product, we're going to edit them down to probably somewhere between 15 and and 25 minute parts removing lulls, silences and general boring bits. If anyone does actually skim through this (not holding my breath) feedback would be most welcome. The first hour is a sort of prologue and character introduction so fast-forward if you wish to skip to the gameplay proper.

West Marches over on Itmejp's channel is pretty good. Some of the early weeks are inconsistent depending on who the cast are but they're generally very good.

Great game but I haven't seen many posts about it on /tg/.
This thread is also dedicated to the other games that resemble this one I guess like Mafia, Sporz, Nosferatu etc

it's an entirely serviceable party game.
Do you have a question, or...?

What's the point of being passive aggressive in games? In game or out of character.
Are you that much of a shit to ruin other people's fun?
Do you lack that much social awareness and self awareness to not act like a cuntnugget?
Were you literally forced to eat that much shit that you have to vomit it out for other people?
>>51017839
Passive-aggressiveness is the feminine way of dissenting. Most who do it don't have good control over the feel cocktail in their heads, so assume they do not unconsciously until proven otherwise.
You can't fix it, your That Guy has to do the work. If he can't take hints, ditch him until he straightens up.
>>51017887
True that mate. If someone acts like that in my games or my friend's games, I'm sorry to say but I have the right to physically slap their shit.
I've also had enough of freaks with no inside voice, no clue of personal space and who just barge in and interrupt.
>>51017839
I feel like there's a story you're not telling us here. Either way, some people are just cunts who never grew up. It's not something a person should put up with if they have the option not to.
>alignment is chaotic good

>>51017812
Depending on the system, alignment is a perfectly valid thing to consider.
Outside of those systems, some players just like to use it to help define the gist of their characters behavior patterns.
There's nothing wrong with talking about them, even if you don't like them.
Hello /tg/. Me and my pathfinder group have been complaining about seemingly endless level one campaigns. So our Dm gave us a level 5 campaign set in the town of thousand pines ( We pointed out the similarity, and it was coincidental). Where we found the town besieged by a sea of werewolves. And by sea I mean as far as you could see there was werewolves. Long story short we fended off a half assed attack and are currently besieged. We need some ideas to help us with our furry problem.
Our party consists of a cleric, rogue, a cannibal barbarian and a sorcerer
>cannibal barbarian
This sounds like a lolrandumb xD murderhobo garbage.
I'd say have the Cleric abandon their oath and pact with a demon to fix your shit, or have the cannibarb intentionally become a werewolf so his cannibalism is less cringy.
>>51017569
Eh hes been biting werewolves instead of party members so we let it slide. And the moment he does ill just scorching ray him in the face a few times.
Also the cleric is a follower of nemyth varr so if we die we are fucked.
where did the wolves come from?
why are they there?
who do they serve?
could they be illusions?
This is for all oldhammer art, which while I have a bit of, I could really use more, and we should all really share more often.

As a Skitarii player.. Do I hate xenos? Lorewise it just seems we are being bitched around by the Imperials.. Enlighten me!
>>51016825
Of course you hate Xenos. Xenos and all xenos tech is heretical.
You are tsundere for Necron tech, though.
>>51016825
>The alien mechanism is a perversion of the True Path.
The Adeptus Mechanicus doesn't just hate aliens, they hate everything aliens make. If it ain't made by human hands, it's a perversion of the Machine God.
Xenos technology lacks the machine spirit and (in many cases) is literal silica animus.
"Feeling conflicted about Treaty of Olympus Mons and construction/conflation of Emperor-as-Omnissiah" =! "Xenophilia".
Hi /tg/,
Which rpgs have done stronghold or base-building in mechanically sound, and/or interesting, and/or fun ways? I haven't gotten the best experience of such systems in action, aside from Ship Creation in Rogue Trader, and reading the Stronghold Builders Guide for 3.0. What other systems should one look into to get a good idea of how to handle houses, castles, towns and army bases in a game?
The campaign section of ACKS (Adventurer Conquerer King System) does a pretty good job.

>>51016516
I can tell you it isn't Ultimate Campaign from Pathfinder. I think they where high when they wrote that pile of shit
I'm pretty new to posting on /tg/, but in my travels to RPG sites across the net, I always see one thing consistantly: That Palladium's rules suck. Palladium was my first RPG system, so I might be a bit biased, but can anyone who has this sentiment explain it to me? I never had a problem understanding the rules.
Are we talking Rifts (MDC) or Multiverse (SDC/non-MDC) here?
I've had more experience with Multiverse(Namely PF and Robotech), and am only familiar with Rifts in the sense that I've read and own most of the published books for it. So probably focus on Multiverse for this thread.
Your starting image is very strange, how can you "trot out" a dead horse?
I think the point of "beating a dead horse" is that the horse was not dead when you started but you have continued in the beating past the time where the horse has died, and as such the reason for the beating has gone away, but your beating continues.

Who would win in a fight:
50 Ewoks with no protagonist allies, or 10 Storm troopers with the aid of an inquisitor?
>>51015903
Did it ever bother anybody else that a bunch of the Stormtroopers that the Ewok's defeated during the Battle of Endor probably ended up getting eaten by the Ewoks?

The Ewoks were all extinct within a month of Jedi ending so fuck it, let the horrible little shits have a last feast.
