Hello /tg/ I came here today to ask for your help.
I think I might written myself into a corner, and I want to get out. First let me tell you the situation. So, my players are trying to find this maguffin that is in an abandoned temple. The temple was built a long time ago, and it was prosperous but one day the monks in the temple created an artifact of great power (the maguffin). The thing is that this artifact drew the attention of the drow living in the underdark under the temple, who attacked it from a tunnel they dug. But something followe the drow, monsters from the underdark, and while they where pillaging and sieging the temple where attacked by the monsters. Meanwhile the hig priest of the temple shetered himself and the maguffin in the highest floor of the temple and protected the entrace with an impenetrable rune, simbol of his office. So the players have to get one of this runes to get the artifact, and to get one of those they need to search for the rest of an old high priest, burried in the cripts below the temple. The twist is, the rune was stolen by some of the monsters and taken to the underdark and the players have to look for it there. The problem is, I don't know how to guide them to look for it in the tunnels, and I don't trust them they will figure it out themselves. So, how do I make them realize the thing they have to look for is in the den of some underdark monster without telling them?

Why does everyone seem to think that nonlethal is in any way important for avoiding megacorporate attention? Death is easy, cheap, and casual in Shadowrun. Bloodsports are the most popular programs on television, go gangers do thrill kills on commuters during rush hour, the police shoot people and leave their corpses in the street, and security guard deaths get written off as a minor business expense every time a lab experiment goes wrong or a shadowrun goes right.
If you murder a dozen security guards - or mafiosos, or go gangers, or even police officers - on you way to your objective, nobody's going to give a fuck. It's not even going to make the news.
Corps only care if you embarrass them, or kill unarmed civilians, or whatever.
I mean, don't get me wrong, they'll still try to shoot you while you're on-site. But once you escape, whether you were shooting APDS or SnS won't make one fucking trace of difference as far as literally anyone other than those poor dead fucks are concerned.
Shadowrun is a setting where utraviolence is normalized, death is a casual fact of life, and people only raise their eyebrows when it's unusually graphic or humiliating instead of clean.

While this is clearly an idea inspired due to the my resent play through of Final Fantasy XV but I've been considering making a modern fantasy setting with some elements taken from Full Metal Alchemist.

One thing is working out how modern cities work in a world with magical creatures that will predate on humans. I remember watching the scene where Noctis and crew were on the train when demons started to manifest inside forcing it to stop so they had to escape before the tunnels closed. That said, in 12 when you see the war in Nabudis you see a bunch of mages channeling energy into a massive sheild to repel the arcadian airships before their Palling tower was raided and they were all stabbed to death.
So that could be stuff to use to help design cities and towns. I imagine going to some rustic village out of the ways where the men and women of the village have to take turns patrolling and keeping monsters out of their farm fields and then you go to a city where they have it down to a science locking down areas when a monster from the sewer system shows up

Hard mode: The character profile alone needs to get you kicked out at chargen, even if you're on your best behavior.

What do you mean, the character will have you kicked out?
Are you talking about some kind of broken unbeatable stat combo character that makes the challenge rating unmanageable for the GM and ruins every fights by being immune to most enemy's attacks?
Or are you talking about some outrageous character concept that revolves around constantly doing socially unacceptable things?
