New Year, new chance to get more games to the table, what's on your "to be played" list? Any game related projects you're planning? Conventions to be attended?
What's the next kickstarter to be hyped so hard posters throw their backs out heaping praise on a vague suggestion of a ruleset?

>what's on your "to be played" list?
I got Mage Knight, Doom, Space Hulk Death Angel, and Flashpoint over the break so I'd really like to break them open asap
how's the replay value on the Grizzled
New year, three new acquisitions by Asmodeus:

That's all, off to game day, hope we can get meatier things than for sale and code names to the table. Love those games, but I need more Mare Nostrum, damnit!

Pretty gud
How is Savage Worlds as a system for action-horror set anywhere in second part of XX century-modern day? Currently I'm trying to choose between CoC and SW. I'd rather not use WoD since some of my players have allergic reaction towards it (yeah, towards the system, go figure). I have next to none experience with them, and so I decided to query /tg/.
I'll be trying to go for the "monsters can win against any human, but organized we stand a chance" feel, if that helps.
Just go with the new Delta Green
>>51037158
That actually seems like a pretty good idea.
Is the "Agent's Handbook" all I need to run it? Or is there a separate "Handler Handbook" or somesuch? I see there's a "Delta Green RPG: Need to Know", but it doesn't seem to be required, right?
>>51037050
I massively prefer SW to CoC with anything that involves action.
CoC is mostly simulationist % wankery, which is great if you want to stat a character's skills out and immerse yourself in the game world with straightforward numbers for when you need to know the exact % of how likely you are to find the book you are looking for, but has absolutely dreadfully boring and somewhat slow gameplay if you start doing anything that may involve a lot of rolling (i.e. action).
I don't know how Delta Green is, but it sounds alright.
Hello. I'm thinking of writing a web novel. I used to talk to you guys and I would like your opinion on this introduction to this story world that I'm building.
I'm using the protagonist as a point of reference here.
Anyways I'd like some critiques/criticism from you guys specificly because I remember talking to you so much in the past.
Here we go:
Once upon a time there was a dark lord named Ronald. Despite coming from a long line of dark lords, having a particularly evil family Ronald wasn't very evil at all. Some might go as far as saying he was moderately pleasant to be around. His brothers and sisters all became legendary evil underlings of the great Lord of Darkness. It was even rumored that his eldest brother Demogorgon was going to usurp the title of Lord of Darkness himself.
Ronald was at the age of all dark lords where they had to chose whether to serve the Lord of Darkness or strike it out on his own. Many dark lords who were young opted to join the Lord of Darkness as it would guarantee them security and provide them with luxuries they were accustomed to. They could study magic and become a great sorcerer like his sister nephi, perhaps they would aspire to become a black knight like his middle brother Matchite. There were many other jobs and ranks but none so coveted as his Eldest brother's Demogorgons job of Dark General.
However the internal politics of the evil Lord of Darkness didn't interest Ronald that much. Lord of Darkness despite his immense power was always fighting with his neighbors and trying to fend off constant attempts on his life. It was rumored that the previous lord of darkness Sam'il became so obsessed with protecting himself from assassins that he died by setting off his own traps. Ronald would have to strike out on his own.
Whoops that got all jumbled
try this

what?
ITT: The worst art in MtG
Foglio
Nigga please.
Take the last character you played and have them fight against pic related
Do they live?
>>51035033
My last character was a sorceress who could create magical, extradimensional holes in the ground by snapping her fingers or shoot lightning from her eyes.
Space marines are great but they can't fight people for whom for laws of physics are merely suggestions.

Do people honestly believe that this card is good?
Tare off your hype blinders: this card sucks. This card is Tibalt/Nahiri level bad.
(you)
This card is a meme. It sucks ass.
CMC 2 hits half of Modern. CMC 4 hits all of Modern.
Revolt procs off almost everything.
But from cracking Fetches, if nothing else.
And you only need to leave 1 mana open for it.
It's no Abrupt Decay, but it'll see Modern play.
Not too familiar with Standard, but I doubt it's bad removal by Standard's standards.
How would /tg/ have expanded them? They clearly weren't the most supported, most of their units are already in TW:WH by now.
maybe a robin hood knight in disquise with the peasants but you don't need to change much, they are cool as is
maybe foot knights too
>>51031272
they actually had a robin hood expy
Honestly, all brets really needed were a few of their cut options back. Foot knights, crossbows, warmachines.

What Tech level would be the imperium of man?
Due to the loss and occasional rediscovery of ancient super-technology, the varied nature of the planets within the Imperium, and inconsistent portrayals from writers and devs, the IoM ranges from TL0 to TL12^.
Removing the outliers like the advanced forge-worlds or hilariously regressed feudal and primitive worlds, though, I'd say the Imperium of Man probably averages around TL10^; at the very least, the Imperial Guard as the most uniform part of the IoM is TL10^ going by their standard loadout.
>>51024666
>>51025469
I'd say in most case it would be TL6+3^
That's a base of TL 6, so about world war one, with some technology up to TL 9 (the TL after the modern age).
And the ^ is to mark superscience/magic bullshit that falls outside normal TLs.

Man, World War One must have been incredibly different to how I remember those documentaries.
Why is
>male human fighter
a meme?
Genuinely asking, because a thing I enjoy roleplaying out is a guy who looks very common but has to find his own distinction in the world, he can be another run-of-the-mill Human Fighter, but, to put it in meta-speak, not every Human Fighter gets to become epic, solve a campaign and have his happy ending. And every person has their own quirks and character.
Is it down to the relative mechanical boredom of most fighter archetypes or does it just strike you as a character chosen by people with no imagination?
Basically people attempting to subvert the "everyone plays a special snowflake" meme became so common that they in turn became a meme
>>51023861
The male human fighter (when regarded as a trend) is deliberate counter piece to super special snowflakes. A more normal grounded believable character is often seen as more mature and better roleplaying. Then of course, as is often the case some people overshoot and turn right to a philosophy of only playing the blandest characters and calling everything unique or remarkable a mary sue.
It is basically the anti-sue counterpiece to half demon angels or whatever.
>>51023861
Come on, at least try to get it right
>male human fighter with brown hair who uses a sword
I think there's also supposed to be something in there about all-brown clothing.

Biodrone Edition. It's been a few months since Howling Shadows came out, and slightly less than a few months since people came up with all the rules that CGL didn't include because they are assholes. What cool cybercritters have you seen in your games? What have you had to outwit/outplay/outlast? Have you spend obscene amounts on a pet genetically designed for optimum cuddles?

It was literally just a rabbit with a Cortex bomb that blows up like a frag grenade when hugged.
I mean... it worked, but...
How large are pixies? Action figure sized? Handle of Vodka sized? Tinkerbell sized? They need to be big enough to fuck, I'm sure, but could I hide one in a water bottle?

Yeah, Penny is player character as hell.
And Quinton is the "brooding loner" character as played by a good RPer.
And Julia is someone who they decided not to let into the group because they didn't want any more players.
And Kady ismai waifu.
I'm never on this board but I used to love reading these threads. Now the only place these little stories are made is on reddit and they're mediocre at best. What ever happened HFY trend?
>>51003544
Just like Henderson and Bearington, they lived the full life of a meme.
Popular -> Hugely popular -> Tired -> Dead -> Popular on Reddit
>>51003544
they still pop-up every know and then but mostly hand in hand with a shitstorm caused by people who doesn't like it and have to post about that everywhere.
Also sometimes on /k/ there are HFY threads and they even made a few of their own, but obviously approaching it from the tacticool and operator side
I've never read one of those stories that was actually good.
I've been on a bit of a Digimon kick lately: with Tri to watch and Cyber Sleuth to play I'm happy to see the fandom have a bit of a revival. With many of my friends showing enthusiasm for the franchise again I want to run a Digimon game, likely based off of Tamers or Savers.
There are a few systems which seem like they might be a good fit, but I'd like to get input from you sain/tg/algomons which one might be the best/most fun/least sucky:
*https://1d4chan.org/wiki/Digimon:_Digital_Adventures (might work but I want to tweak & add some thing)
*Monsters and Other Childish Things (an obvious choice based on the title alone, but I know nothing about it.)
*BRP from Chaosium (I am personally just a big fan of this system. Might not work with the two characters (Digimon & human) people would be controlling though.
*West End d6 (would require a lot of work on my part)
I considered FATE but I don't think it's crunchy enough for Digimon combat. And while BESM is thematically appropriate it's utterly broken.
Polite bump.
>>50976934
Are people playing Digimon or Masters?
>Monsters and Other Childish Things
It's an ORE hack, which means you roll d10 dice pools, everyone acts simultaneously, and the d10s want matching sets.
>I considered FATE but I don't think it's crunchy enough for Digimon combat
Make me think you're not that familiar with Fate. While it's a narrative focused system, the combat mechanics are fairly explicit. They just don't feed that "I hit the thing" itch the way other systems do.
>West End d6
I don't think it would be as much work as you think. Digivolving is the only real mechanic that would need to be added to the system.
>>50977396
Thanks for the info! My gut instinct says M&OCT is likely a pretty good fit.
And yeah, I've onlyed played FATE twice and didn't enjoy it either time. I might have had some bad luck, is all.
I am intrigued by what you said about d6. I'm not familiar with it beyond a Star Wars game or two...
sup /tg/
tonight i payed my first /tg/ in like 4 years. it was a homebrew(?!) and im trying to identify where it drew inspiration from
it seemed like the system was centered around opposed d6 rolls with increases in an attribute giving more dice to roll
damage in combat was calculated by the difference in rolls and attackers seemed to instantly take counterattack damage if they ha the lower roll
also some bullshit about ranged attacks hitting as normal/missing entirely/hitting an ally instead
there were abilities/skills with different costs per rank. increasing a rank cost twice as many points as the previous
despite the skills/abilities being a point buy system, primary stats were 3d6 scaled to 1-5 range. hp and starting money were somehow rolled based on stats
a really lazy bing search says some of these features are from a system called D6
