Hi y'all. This is my first time on /tg/ but I didn't see a FAQ or sticky for this so I figured I'd ask here.
I'm a successful non-NEET who wants to get involved with DnD style games and all that jazz. What would your recommendations be for a beginner? Favorite genre is science fiction, if you could find me some space-based RPG on a spaceship or something. But I'm looking to get really invested and sucked into a world in a way video games can't.
Also, if there's some good quickstart guide to these types of games online, any pointers would be appreciated!

Got a question for you Bros.
I'm kicking off a short (7-10 session) campaign tonight, and I'm wanting to give it a heavy fairy tale flavor to it. Beyond the greater story about the party needing to save a princess from a dragon, I'm trying to cook up some smaller fairy tale themed encounters. The party is going to have to travel through a really large, haunted forest (appropriately called the Grimmswood) So there's plenty of opportunity for encounters in there.
So far I've got a long bridge with a troll living underneath it, and a trio of Hill Giants arguing about who should be chief. Maybe a witches house that either has legs baba yaga style, or is made of delicious edible material a la Hansel and Gretel.
You Gents have any other ideas?

I'm having a crises here.
I'm really into horror-themed games, RPG games, tactical-light games (I love 5e D&D), but I don't know how I feel about civ building (I find it either boring, or I suck at it, or I take forever because I'm not good at forward planning). I like story-based games (I found Tales of The Arabian Nights fun, if not amusing).
Should I drop $2,000 on the kickstarter and buy everything?
WHAT DO I DO /tg/, WHAT DO I DOOOO?
Otherwise, that money will go towards a down-payment on a new condo or my savings account.
