Question: With the advent of smartphones with high-resolution cameras, is there even a point to point-and-shoot cameras? Should beginners just stick to phone cameras, provided they have a newer phone?
Pic related, I took a bunch of photos of a deodorant stick I found on the windowsill of a library. This is the only one I really like, looking back on them all. I had like 12 in total.

I'll post more deodorant pics I guess
This one is alright I guess. Not too big a fan. I feel like I've fucked up some framing rule, but I know jack shit about photography so I don't know.
I messed with the curves a bit in this one.

Seriously, you're fine, and what you have in your hands is valuable, but dump some of your pictures.
I think that everybody here is for the photo, not the photographer.

Card types, portability, durability, size????????/

My current camera uses Compact Flash but I'd prefer one with all memory card types.
Why won't you use a cord that comes with your camera instead?
It's much safer and you don't need to remove the card from the camera.

Hi there /p/
Been doing some amateur shooting since a couple of years. I mostly enjoy street, and a little bit of landscape.
I recently upgraded to a full frame camera, but all my lenses are still crop, and soon i'm going to buy a full frame lens.
I would just go on and get the 55 1.8 zeiss, but i find myself really wanting to try a manual lens, like loxia 50.
I never ever used a manual lens before, but from what i've read and seen, i think i would enjoy manual focusing a lot.
I must admit though, i am a little bit worried that maybe it won't be fast enough for street photography? But in the other hand, most of manual focusing photographers that i have read from, seem to say that it is easily fast enough for that purpose.
Any thoughts on this? I am definitely willing to put a lot of practice to it, but still, am i ever going to be able to focus on say a cyclist, or rollerblader moving towards me?

f8 and be there.
Honestly, MF isn't that hard, know your lens, know your DOF for your aperture and you'll be focused in a second.
People managed without AF for a good long time.
Practice and anything is possible.
Do it.

They also had tools optimized to deal with using manual focus, specifically things like rangefinders, true distance scales, and focusing screens.
Hello /p/,
I want to discuss about the position of the horizon in a sea/lake composition.
My question: is the centered horizon boring if the composition looks good? I don't fell i want to lose my space in useless sky, and when i don't have a good subject in the water, it is boring too.
Which one of the three is better?
I know that the example I'm bringing is boring *and lacks of a subject*, but it's not the point of this thread (well, you can always shit on my photos, find it useful)
>>2906559
If the composition works, then who cares if it's boring?
Look, if someone's only complaint about your shot is that you're using a "boring" composition, then they don't have anything to say about your composition.
the third has the most interesting composition
>but it's not the point of this thread
stupid. it depends entirely on the example. there is no general rule that fits all images
>>2906564
Why the third?
The bottom of the pic, in theory, is completely useless. I know i can easly crop the photo, but when i'll be taking the next one, should i care of including the bottom even if on the bottom there's nothing intresting?

I recently received a Extension tubes I have ordered from amazon. Really cheap. What could possibly go wrong. I tried to fit one of them on the camera but it does´t properly fit. Suddenly I realize that the camera does not turn on. I change que Battery. It does´t turn on. I charge the battery. It doesn't turn on...
I notice that the camera smells weird, like fucked up electronics.
The chinese piece of shit killed my beloved 5D...
Is this possible or just it randomly died while I was trying the extension tubes?
What can I do now?
Should I ask amazon to pay the fix?

Just got pic related for dirt cheap off craigslist. Seller was a professional and had kept the film in the fridge/freezer since he got it. Expiration dates are from 1982-1997. Does anyone have any advice on how to shoot this? (overexpose, cross process, etc)
Also got these. Sorry for the shitty phone picture
Fucking jelly! If the dates are really random and you don't have 5+ rolls from the same batch it'd be hard to do a test roll.
I'd overexpose by 2/3 a stop and see how it goes from there. There's the saying that it's 1 stop overexposure for every decade past expiration but if this dude was a pro and this was truly stored in the freezer the whole time they could still be pretty close to box speed. Some of that shit isn't that expired. That 160NC can't be more than a decade old.
Has ebay gotten ridiculously expensive in the last few years?
I keep reading all these articles about people buying this camera for $100 or less on ebay and in shops. They are all at least 350 on ebay.
Not to mention the pentax k1000 is the same and the canon ae whatever it is.
What happened to $100 film cameras?
Do they still exist on ebay?
If so what model?

Never ever get a buy it now listing on ebay for analog photography stuff. You're pretty much guaranteed to get ripped off. The sellers just put these up for ridiculous prices and apparently once in a while some idiot falls for it.
Auctions often go for more reasonable prices (filter for sold actions), though there are still outliers with idiot bidders. In general I find eBay a bad place for good deals since everything interesting tends to get sniped by bigger buyers.
Prices for analog gear in general have been on the rise in the last few years it seems.
I'll sell ya an OM 2n for $100 OP
Buyers have been doing that on AU ebay for years though. Nice product at 2-4 times the market value, hoping someone is silly enough to fall for it. Are Olympus Trips still on there for $200 a piece?

It's just an album cover it doesn't have to be autistically perfect. In fact, having the face dark, slightly out of focus and noisey seems to work.
Unpacked my first DSLR earlier today and spent a few hours walking around my neighborhood taking photos. I'd appreciate plenty of criticism so feel free to rip me apart.

a6000 for video, xt for photo, id honestly prefer the xt10 because better build quality and slightly newer
id honestly go with the xt10 because better build quality and better native lenses but honestly once you buy a body you realize that the camera doesnt really matter
or you could ditch digshital and get a film camera
