I just quit my job and in two weeks I emigrate half way across the planet to begin working as a photographer. I have no real experience as a professional photographer and only enough savings to tie me over for about one month.
I also have no work lined up and no contacts in Vancouver to help me

How do I get my photos to look like this? Sort of warm and fuzzy while not being super grainy.
>Don't focus the camera on anything in general
>Blur camera slightly when taking it too.
>Open Lightroom and fuck with the sliders
It looks like shit by the way
Use a lomo f8 plastic toy lens and throw VSCO 03 warm presets on it.
rub vaseline on your $5 manual focus lens with fungus growing inside.
I know I'm probably going to get shit flung at me for only posting one photo but anyways...
Something feels a bit off and I can't put my finger on it, this may sound stupid but I can't figure out wether I missed the focus or not. Through the lens and in Liveview everything seemed chipper.
What do does /p/ think?

Not enough DOF
boring ass flower
I like how it looks like a pair of lungs though.
The composition is almost symmetrical, but not perfectly, so the composition ends up between two chairs. Also, it's not sharp or well lit enough to justify the boring subject. f16 is usually not the sharpest aperture, and there's also some noise in there.
Since the background is all black, you should be able to recompose, extend the frame etc with ease, maybe giving it some more air around will help. You can also try either brightening the stem to give some color contrast, or just clone it away to simplify.
Whats a good lens i could buy for my crop frame DSLR that isnt a 16-55mm kit, 50mm f1.4, or 75-300mm. Im into filmmaking but mostly photography. pic related its my camera.

Erwitt is not really a masterclass in 28mm
William Klein is one of them too
28mm is basically the worst focal length.
I own two cameras- a canon powershot sx50hs, and a nikon d3300.
the powershot is infinitely better than the D3300. It shows you real time what your photo will look like before you take it, allows you to shoot in raw, has better zoom than my dedicated zoom lens for the nikon, allows for external flash, it's convenient and compact and doesnt require for me to switch to a zoom lens. The pictures also just come out better right after taking them, little to no editing required.
Why the fuck would I use an inconvenient dslr which will require me to edit my photos later anyway, over this beauty?
Not even bait

Hey /p/ham question here
What makes Leica lenses great?
What sets their lenses apart from others?
Coatings? Glass elements?
What on an engineering aspect makes their lenses so superior?
What makes their out dated and vintage lenses superior to modern lenses?
What do Leica lenses offer that other lenses don't?
Please no responses of just "they're sharper"
I want to understand what makes Leica superior and why they've been considered superior for the past 50 years
They're sharper.
>>2909701
only thing they really offer is good build quality, small size , and excellent image quality
>>2909701
When talking about their film cameras: they did what they were supposed to do very fucking well and with a precision that makes them feel good to use. If you don't know what it's like to use a precisely tooled instrument to achieve a task, then there's not really a good way to describe it. Hasselblad kinda has the same thing going on. It's just an excellently designed machine that works the way it's supposed to. Whether or not you want that is another matter entirely.
In the digital age, they're mostly a boutique brand that lives in the same kind of market space that brands like Rolls Royce live in. They aren't for those who want the pinnacle of performance, but want performance with a cachet of style and legacy that other companies just can't provide.

Any of you guys know a bit about cinemagraphs and the best ways to approach making them? Seems like a really fun way to combine the best of photos and videos for websites.
I have a 7Dii and figure that I have two options for creating one:
1. shoot a cinemagraph as if it were a series of photos, burst mode of 10 frames per second, and then stitch the photos together and edit into a video. or
2. ...just shoot in video mode.
is it worth the smoothness of the extra frames if shot in 30fps, or is it worth the better picture quality of just stitching 10 photos per second together? would the latter even appear any better if i were to need to export into a smaller file anyway?
...just general advice on how to approach this type of work?
...or is it even more that I should look at approaching a cinemagraph as a composite? use the same camera, take a well-lit picture, and then composite the moving elements filmed?
>>2909299
just googled cinemagraphs and that shits cool
watched a 5 min youtube vid and it seems very simple
shoot video on tripod
use a combination of layers and masks to achieve result
save as .gif
im not sure why you made this thread as a simple google tell you everything you need to know
>>2909434
im asking because the information ive found on google, while there's a lot of it, is all the same and all very basic. i feel like the best cinemagraphs ive seen online are a lot more complicated than all the basic how-to's make them out to be. but I guess this style of photography/video really is more unknown than I thought. which is a shame because it seems like a no-brainer commercial tool for websites.
some say gif format but a few say HTML5, which makes sense for a smaller format size and more native framerate. also regarding framerate, would a conemagraph look more "pleasing" as a series of burst photos at 10fps or just a 1080p video shot at 60fps?
really? nobody on here has experimented with this type of photography?
/o/tist here, not sure if it fits in this board but this is my first attempt at colorizing a photo. It's pretty bad but I'd like some constructive criticism if possible. I used Paint.NET for this one.
