Does anyone else scan their film with a 50mm lens? I just started scanning my negatives with my dslr and they all seem to come out pretty shitty. Any tips?
>>2908976
Get a kit of extension tubes, they'd turn your lens into a macro allowing you to get more detail, and since you're using the same glass you shouldn't lose quality. Plus they are cheap as fuck and easy to use.

Hello /p/
I don't really come to this board alot, so forgive me if im breaking some kind of rule.
I currently have a Canon PowerShot SX400 IS and its kinda ass. One of the things I noticed is that if there isn't enough light, photos come out really grainy and blurry to the point where I could have just used my smartphone. Got it for like 90 dollars on Black Friday a few years back and was wondering if adding additional lense to it will improve its picture quality?
Or am I wasting my time and should just buy a new camera....?

the sensor on that camera is fucking tiny, mobile phones probably have bigger sensors now
you are prob wasting your time with it
it doesnt have interchangeable lenses, you wanna get a dslr or mirrorless for that
but id learn to use that camera properly first, aperture, shutter speed, exposure etc before you spend money on a new one
>>2908560
your camera is about as shit as your thread, but as >>2908564 pointed out, it's not like you know enough about photography to justify buying something decent.
so delete this shit thread, lurk more, and try to get some decent pics off that garbage camera before you go and shell out on the latest fad in camera technology
>>2908564
>>2908575
>but id learn to use that camera properly first, aperture, shutter speed, exposure etc before you spend money on a new one
Look dude, I just want a camera where I can point at things and it takes high quality pictures. I don't need to learn all this other crap you listed just to do that. You are making it sound like it requires all these extra steps and experience lol
>>2908575
When I bought the camera in the OP it was already outdated so I don't understand what you mean "shell out for latest camera fad".
Hey guys; So I've been shooting a ton of automotive photography lately and I really enjoy it, have a few friends with some supercars who are more than happy to let me get some photoshoots in. But how do you break into the market of making money off of it? I can't seem to find any gigs to even offer, where do I begin to find car gigs in the first place?
Also; If you've done some automotive photography, feel free to put it up.
Take it easy with the editing, the sky looks fake as fuck in 1st pic.
Don't photograph graffiti, it's ghetto and nigger-tier.
Those hands look retarded, like you ran out of car photos so you just put in whatever bullshit pics you had laying around. Get your shit together, senpai, be organized and more professional.
>>2908364
To answer your question, beyond having a good portfolio to reference, I would think perhaps the after-market parts used in some of the custom tuning world wouldn't be happy to have someone go to some events and try to piece together something eye-catching.
They tend to be relatively less difficult to get sponsored by. I have a couple friends who already have gotten sponsored after only having entered the scene maybe a year before.
So if you're trying to put all your options on the table, I would consider this.
Also ofc you if you have favorite photographers who focus on the kinds of cars you would want to work with, read about how they did it or try to even ask if they could impart some knowledge.
>>2908367
Appreciate the feedback! The graffiti was sort of a forced location by the owner haha; the hands just happen to be there from the gallery randomly sorting the photos; I'll try to re-organize it!
>>2908371
The first part was a little confusing? Would be happy, or Wouldn't be? -And thanks! I'll try and reach out to some of the larger photographers in my area.
How would a used D700 compare with a current entry-mid range DSLR at about the same price ($500-1000)? What about the alpha a7?
Low light performance is a priority.
>>2908152
Just get an entry level unless you can afford to go full frame
You pay a couple of hundred more for an entry level dslr with a few un-needed features
>>2908152
You will not be disappointed with the D700 one bit. Absolutely fantastic body and built like a brick shit house. I highly recommend getting a good clean/service if buying second hand because a good majority of them have seen a lot of heavy use, due to people buying them for the build quality.
Source: I've owned two of these
I would absolutely love to own a d700. Great camera, great tool for an aspiring professional (you can rent a d800 1 if a job needs ultra high res), and the lenses are great too. The d700 will not hold your hand, you must learn to use it properly.

Hey, new to photgoraphy here. If i dont spend at least $400 am i never gonna take a good picture or is a lot done in post or do i just have a lot to learn or does having it set as RAW a factor as well.
How about you read the camera manual first?
You could actually take some interesting pics with every camera on this planet
There is a youtube series how famouse photographer take pics with 1$ cameras
>>2907100
From a guy whos on the internet a lot the last thing i would do is read the manual, but if this is a true suggestion then hell i'll do it. I've watched tutorials on what dial does what and how to change the f stop and shutter speed. It's more like i feel like im taking just plain pictures nothing spectacular if you can get what im saying haha

How was the light setup for this portrait?
A hard light off on the left and maybe a reflector to the right of the subject?

Is high quality home digital printing feasible these days? Or is it still best left to lab? If so, what do I need to know?
Can you afford to run a high maintenance large format printer?
If yes - yes.
If no - no.
>>2904326
I've owned an Epson 3880 for a few years now. Love the prints and it has been the lowest maintenance ink jet I've ever owned.
Ink carts are expensive, but last a very long time.

Just got a Canon Pixma Pro-10, and the results look great to me. Spent $200 on it from Craiglist, it was practically brand new, and came with a lot of paper.
Here's a 13x19 with a large border of a photo I took today on Canon's Pro Luster paper.

Should have broken him.
Some tourists got accused of taking a photo of a woman in a burkini and a man and his son were stabbed with a harpoon because, then the town banned burkinis.
Testing out the Tamron 70-200mm f/2.8 VC USD I got a few week back for a bargain with some "street" photography.
Haven't had such a good opportunity to trash out a lens this tele in a long time since jumping on the fool frame train.
Still earning how to get the most out of this beast, and I think shooting wide open at 2.8 isn't as "fun" and easy as it is, say with the 24-70mm.
