Lightdow lenses don't seem to exist outside of aliexpress. Why is that?
>probably garbage
I agree.
Welcome to the official /p/ Chinese grey market thread.
>>2904774
Here's the link for that.

>>2904774
That's not a gray market product.
>>2904777
They are licensed by Nikon to make them? Have you heard of them before?
>>2904778
>They are licensed by Nikon to make them?
They aren't being marketed as "Nikon" or "Nikkor", which is a knockoff/imitation product, not gray market.
>Have you heard of them before?
I think you might want to look up what "gray market" means.
>>2904781
Cool, great. Now that that's out of the way, what's the deal with this lens?
>>2904782
It's a cheap, chinkshit UWA. There's a good chance it's the same as Bower/Rokinon/whatever the other brands they sell that lens under.
>>2904784
>There's a good chance it's the same as Bower/Rokinon/whatever
Could be, but the focus and aperture rings look a little different.

I was expecting you about ten replies earlier. Now tell me to kill myself.
>>2904821
You really should. Your thread is shit and you should be ashamed. You started a thread to just ask about one cheap ass lens.
>>2904812
I would normally agree.
But this is a fisheye lens.
Which is nice to have, but won't get enough use to justify spending serious money on.
>>2904826
You ever play around with those adapters that screw onto the front of your lens? They're all over Chinese eBay, and are more fun than they have any right to be. Cheaper than a movie ticket too.
>>2904784
but the Bower/Rokinon/Sanyang 8mm is actually gud.

No killing yourself is going to far but you should reconsider this hobby. Maybe stamp collecting is more suited to your budget.
>>2904826
Those Korean UWA primes are cheap enough. You must be beyond destitute and desperate to even consider these.

Rare stamps are expensive, and I can already take pictures with my Nexus 4. Thanks for the suggestion though.

>Those Korean UWA primes are cheap enough. You must be beyond destitute and desperate to even consider these.
I already own the €1000 Tamron 15-30 f/2.8
Spending another €250 to get that extra width plus shitloads of distortion isn't worth it for me.
But at €150 - perhaps.
>>2904892
How often do you use it? Do you only take landscapes, or what?
>>2904892
t. someone who doesn't understand focal lengths
Pro tip: the difference between an 8mm and a 15mm is nothing like the difference between say, 100mm and 108mm.
>>2904900
It was more about the price vs the utility. I appreciate you trying to contribute.
>>2904902
>It was more about the price vs the utility. I appreciate you trying to contribute.
You're thick mate. That's like saying "why would I buy a 50mm? I already have a 300mm". The price doesn't matter at all, an 8mm lens is an entirely different, does not overlap in any way, with a 15mm. They cannot fill the same function.
>>2904903
For the same reason you may never get around to buying a toaster oven when you have a $20k Viking Range in your kitchen. Sure, they don't do the same things.
>>2904905
>For the same reason you may never get around to buying a deep frier when you have a $20k Viking Range in your kitchen. Sure, they don't do the same things.
TFTFY
>>2904908
You know what? That's a much better analogy.
>>2904908
What?
>>2904905
Anyway, that's still not really a parallel example. The korean cheapo 8mms are good lenses. They're for an entirely different purpose from that zoom you've got. They make entirely different images. If 15mm is as wide as you want, then an 8mm is not a lens for you no matter the price/quality. That's my point.
>>2904908
Drunk chef here. Why the fuck would I buy a deep frier if I had a viking range? I hate unitaskers.
I'd buy a deep and thick enamaled cast iron, and use that as my deep frier.
Plus I can use it to make some bomb ass chilli.
What's the photo fag equivalent?
Sorry, I'm just getting into this hobby.
>>2904916
Welcome!
The cheap Chinese lens is the deep fryer here. If you had a less dope kitchen, or specialized in deep frying, or didn't want to deal with cast iron, the deep fryer makes more sense.
This lens is a unitasker. It's price (and assumed quality) mean that if you really wanted to specialize, you should spend more money on it. If not, you can get as close as you can with the tools you have.
If you just want to dick around with a wide angle lens for a few afternoons, it might be fine. Like buying bulk mozzarella sticks and a deep fryer from Costco for a party.
>>2904926
Please, show me how a 15mm can get "close" to an 8mm.
>>2904927
As close as you can. It's an aesthetic decision.
To further the analogy, you could make fries, but you're not going to run a busy burger joint with a cast iron skillet.
>>2904926
>deep fryer from Costco for a party.
Costco makes dope shit. Try their french vodka, it's from the old grey goose factory.
More like buying from walmart :3.
Thanks for making that a bit more clear.
-----------
>>2904927
Oi, cunt, he's explaining an analgy in a way that a drunk newb can understand.
He's not saying that you a walmart deep frier and a costco deep frier with digital temp control are equal.
>Please, show me how a 15mm can get "close" to an 8mm.
Also, by buying a full sensor lens and mounting it on a crop body. 15 / 1.6 = 9.3 mm, so it's close.
>>2904929
We use a huge cast iron dutch oven skillet at work for the burger joint. So there's that.
>it's a "painful analogies" episode
wew lads
Fuck you guys. Pressure cookers are the shit. Ovens and deep fryers are plebs with high cholesterol health problems.
>>2904776
I saw a $30 prime 50mm lens on eBay today... with $70 shipping. It was made by "yongnuo"
They're supposedly okay
>>2904851
Here's one taken with a rockinon
>>2904851
Yeah, the Samyang lenses are actually really good. I've had the 85 1.4 for a few years and loved it when I was on FF, and have the 12mm f/2 on the way right now for my Fuji system.
>>2904939
>They're supposedly okay
No they're not.
>>2904962
>12mm f2 on Fuji
Would you recommend that particular lens? I've been looking for a nice uwa x-mount lens for quite some time now.
>>2904973
I just ordered it so I can't really say, but the reviews I've read have been very good, and like I say I've been impressed with previous Samyang lenses I've owned/used.
Only skatebois need fisheye.
>>2904933

the brands you listed are NOT bad.
this chinese copy is probably awful

>I need a car, so I bought a shovel.
>>2905273
Hey now, there's nothing you can do with a car that you can't do with a shovel. A car just does it faster.
>>2904774
I've heard stories about purely counterfit cameras, but I've never seen one, or even know where to find one.
If we're talking about strictly chinese lenses, here's another wide angle.

I've got the 7.5mm fisheye for meme4/3 and it's every bit as good as the first-party one for a third of the price (the only kind-of-downside is lack of AF, but it's a f/7-equivalent fisheye, so...)
