MCQ bushcraft is pretty good

MCQBushcraft is godmode, most informative relaxing vids ever. Zeds Outdoors is great as well.
TA Outdoors is good if you're looking for something to watch while going to sleep or something.
Dave Canterburry's wildernessoutfitters channel is pretty good as well, but it's more for cabin life and not camping.
> Joe Robinet Bushcraft... dude just does stuff innawoods, thats all.

Anyone else love hiking in the nude? It's pretty damn freeing desu, and really hard not to do when you know you (and sometimes gf) are the only ones on the trail.
>>887822
I get aroused for no reason when I'm nude, so no
>>887822
I randomly get aroused when I'm nude, so I don't do this

My dick is a grower, I don't want people to think I have a small wiener.
If you woke up tomorrow as the last living human on earth - everyone just up and vanishes - how long do you think you could survive off of scavenged stuff (food, fuel, etc) before you have to settle down somewhere and grow stuff?
How long would you have power? How long can you store gas/diesel before it becomes totally unusable? How do you grow stuff when a lot of modern crops are bred to be sterile?
How big of a problem would the sudden, sharp rise in animal populations worldwide be for you?
How long before you kill yourself?
>>887421
>If you woke up tomorrow as the last living human on earth
/out/ means Outdoor, not /aut/ - autism.
Fuck off.
>>887421
>How long would you have power?
power grids probably wont stay up without maintenence. all it would take is one small problem for the entire system to fail might want to get far away, upwind and upstream from any nuke plants, and upstream from any dams
>How long can you store gas/diesel before it becomes totally unusable?
a year or 2 if you use stabilizer, little bit longer if you know how to boost octane.
>How do you grow stuff when a lot of modern crops are bred to be sterile?
you go to your local garden store and find non GMO or heirloom seeds.
>How big of a problem would the sudden, sharp rise in animal populations worldwide be for you?
it wouldnt be a problem for anyone unless they are a complete and utter fucking retard
>>887421
>How long before you kill yourself?
why would I kill myself? sounds like my fondest dream.
also being the last human on earth is like being a lone kid in a candy store. you would have to actively fuck up to die in such a situation (basically unlimited canned food, gear, weapons, shelter etc pp)
>go camping
>find bear
wat do?
From what I understand of bears, they have the advantage of speed, so DO NOT try to run from one.
I'm not too sure if looking big would help more than going up a tree.
If I found a bear. I'd try to look big while backing up to a tree to climb up.
>>876343
Trees are like an ez flight of stairs for bears
It's like going up a flight up stairs to escape a murderer... Won't do anything.
So the look big advice is good. but make sure it's a black bear. And don't be too aggressive and threaten them, just look like you don't want any of its shit
>meeting a bear innawoods is a single solution problem
what kind of bear?
what season?
how aggressive is it acting?
is it alone?
does it have cubs?
how big is it?
how big are you?
how far away is it?
has it seen you?
Post /out/ feels
I cant think of any at the moment though

feels surprisingly good
>tfw you tell yourself you go /out/ for the solitude
>tfw even innacity you spend the vast majority of your time alone in your apartment
>tfw just want a qt to go camping and sleep with outside
Post /out/ jackets
Been eyeing this 5.11 Aggressor Parka pretty hard for regular winter use and /out/&about. Anyone got experience with this jacket?
not another 5.11 jacket. Are these really that good or is there some kind of shill going on?
>>853780
I don't know, I thought this jacket was already out for some time?
Certainly not trying to shill, tell me your worst. Just trying to justify the 270 dollar pricetag. Don't wanna buy something that turns out to be a piece of shit for that price
>>853777
Is this any good ?

Can a modern man make a decent living innawoods hunting and trapping? Are there other ways to make money?
For reference I'm Canadian and live in the BC backwoods, so that's what I know.

How about a job in the woods?
- Park ranger
- Biologist/botanist
- Forestry engineer
- Guide (if you like people)
Other than that, there's probably plenty of laws preventing you from hunting and trapping all year and whatever has a valuable fur...probably is on that list.
>>889776
everywhere? no
where you are? maybe
but is 4chins really your first port of call when it comes to finding out? srsly.
Hey /out/, I live out on about 77 Acres in a small block house. I've been hearing rustling in the woods around the house lately and this morning heard small animals crying. It sounds similar to baby coyotes I think. I was thinking it'd be pretty cool to "adopt" one. What are your thoughts?
Tl;dr: possible coyote or Fox pups in Woods, should I capture one?
>pic unrelated
I'm thinking they're probably raccoons. If so, adopt one. Pet raccoons are badass.
>>889231
It's a skinwalker. Be careful.
>>889231
when I was a kid growing up
we had a coyote for a dog, it was crazy loyal but killed a bunch of our ducks so my dad took him for a one way ride to the hills.
we had a raccoon for a while but it would tear up the house and sit on top of our doors and grab your hair when you walked by. my dad taught it to do tricks like a dog. (sit rollover beg attack) It bit my granny pretty bad and my dad walked him to the river and tossed him. we never saw him again. my sister cried for like a week.
I say go get one anon. post pics of the pup.
What is the feasibility of survival/homesteading in the Trans-Pecos region of Texas for a single person? Specifically I'd be looking at Reeves County, in the Rio Grande basin..
My main concern is water. Is there enough groundwater to make digging/driving a well possible? Rain collection is another source from what I've read on the region.
Anyone have any experience with this part of North America, or similar desert areas?
Lets go down this in order.
>feasibility
Extremely difficult.
>Reeves County
Reeves County *is* in the Rio Grande basin, but only in the same sense that parts of Colorado are. The actual river is over a hundred miles away from the southmost tip of the county. The only water in Reeves County, aside from Balmorhea spring and its associated lake, is the Pecos River. The Pecos River is semi-okay up in New Mexico, but further south it becomes very, very alkaline and it actually shrinks in size as it passes through the desert.
>Groundwater
Only the western edge of the county has much, with Balmorhea, and that's pretty much all claimed. And you'd need an outlandish rainwater collection system to get enough because it only rains a few inches a year, on average. Long-term predictions for the region see it getting drier.
The county is mostly flat with a lot of creosote. There's little outcroppings of topography in spots, but not enough to really make groundwater possible. Agriculture out there is a bad idea. Pretty much all the land use these days comes from the oil/gas industry.
>>888824
You might be able to get enough water if you combine whatever scant groundwater you can find with whatever scant water you can condense from the air. You should play around with that before going all in and buying a plot, though.
Why would you choose this location? Especially if you're as unfamiliar with it as you are?
Go there and check it out.

Moldy?
what are we looking at? cumb stains? bird pooh? frost?
What, are we whining about the frost?
I'll just get to the point, I want to be ready for a SHTF scenario. Where do I start?
have water and canned/dehydrated food in the house. when SHTF you don't leave the house.
>>885269
do you have a 500ft roll of razorwire?
Live in the countryside. Trust me, living in the city is shit when the SHTF.
Do obvious things like store Food, Water, Medical Supplies, Clothing, Lighters, etc.
Apart from that, learn hunting, farming, and homesteading skills, Learn how to blacksmith. Even learn how to make iron out of bog iron. Learn wild edibles. Learn how to build a cabin.
Is the Daisy 840 an okay choice for small game? I just want to shoot birds and squirrels without needing a firearms license.
>>884323
>living in a shithole that requires a firearms license
Ishygddt
As far as your question though, it will kill but not reliably and only if your shot placement is perfect. The majority of your shots will be wounds or stuns that will require you to Finnish off a wounded animal or worse it running off and suffering until it dies
Do yourself a favor and get a decent break action pellet gun and you will get clean h
>>884339
*clean humane kills
Daisy will kill birds but not squirrels and rabbits. You need a Sheridan pellet gun for dat.
I asked a question about a month ago about finding a good radio for listening in while /out/ to stay connected with the world for news updates and weather reports. I was looking for something that could receive basic radio station signals and weather channels.
After a few helpful people chimed in I quickly realized there are a shit ton of options available for portable radios and the ones I was looking at were very limited. Also learned that BaoFeng may be cheap and offer lots of features, but they are pretty crappy and probably should be avoided.
I did some lazy "research" after realizing this and decided to pick up a mobile HAM unit, the YAESU VX-6R. I spent a little more than I had planned on, but now I will be able to receive many different signals (fm, police, fire, ems, weather, amateur HAM signals ect) I will also be able to send signals to communicate... I will be getting a HAM license now. You are not permitted to send signals unless you are licensed and you can only send within certain frequencies.
If you send signals and are not licensed, "they" will find you. Fox hunting is a favorite pastime of HAM operators and they are good at locating signals.
The YAESU VX-6R I bought is a used item that has been modded to transmit over 4 bands, a TX mod or some shit. It was cheaper than new in box, and already had the mod done so I went for it. I'll just need a manual for it, easy enough.
I went for this radio because it is durable, waterproof and has a ton of features.
Thank you for opening my eyes to the world of portable radio /out/doorsmen!
TL;DR Just bought a portable HAM, will be getting license, thank you for the info.
>>881679
I have a BaoFeng UV-5R meme radio and a Radioshack Pro-528 receiver. Meme radio is for camp-walkie type comms and FM radio receiver, Pro-528 is for scanning and trunked frequencies.
Neither are waterproof but I keep them in a waterproof Pelican container.

Whats the scariest situation you have been in outdoors, and how did you get out?
>>867651
This one time in Kyrgyzstan (Manas AFB) it was about -20f and i radioed my patrol leader to come out and drive me to the nearest heated toilet because i had to drop a massive duece.
He was taking forever and i didnt want to shit in the guard shack and spend the rest of the shift smelling poo.
Anyways i gathered my courage and accepted the fact that i was going to have to shit in the plastic portapotty that was half buried in snow for like three months now. I bundled up and headed outside to dig the door loose.
I got inside and tried to hover my ass over the frosted seat. After awhile i accidentally lowered down onto the seat and my ass instantly froze to the seat of the porta john.
/out/ im going to level with you. Ive been shot at, taken frag from an IED, and may have even killed someone (know i atleast hit him). But ill tell you right now the scariest time of my career in SF was thinking "Holy shit im going to have to radio someone to bring hot water out to unfreeze my ass from this seat. What if they take pictures? What if i have to go to medical for frostbite on my ass cheeks? What if my wife hears about this? How long am i going to get made fun of for this?"
This was 8 fucking years ago and the most recent joke about it was two weeks ago.
Life as the guy whos ass froze to a porta potty.
