Say you're on your way to Alaska for a vacation, and your plane crashed in the middle of the woods in the Canadian wilderness. There are 4 survivors left, including yourself, and they each have a tool with them, and are willing to give you their tool if you give them the big bag of trail mix you have with you. If you could trade your item for any of these three items, what would it be, and why?

I pick up a rock and brain each of the other survivors when they're looking the other way. Then their meat can be used to bait snares, and I'll live like a king until help arrives.

Hey /out/, what is a good jacket that will keep me warm if I have to keep my house at 55 degrees f all winter (money probs)? Something that will not impede my ability to do things around the house. They sell a lot of Carhart coats here, is that a good option?

Walmart fleece should do the job
>>
>>897220
Those coats are straight but probably a little much for 55F in the house. Just layer. Get some hoodies n long sleeves
>>
>>897244
Thanks guys, so far I have been wearing two pairs of pants, a shirt, a hoodie, and a flannel over that, sometimes a hat too, but my nose is still running lol. I am not a big guy and layers seem to not be doing the trick

We're fucking doing this.

You guys argue about this shit enough that I believe it warrants its own thread. Cotton vs Synthetics. When to use them; when to not. The pros, the cons, fucking all of it. Argue among yourselves but some to a decision already.

Glad someone posted this. I almost got sucked into a search team for them.

>get turned around
>see red light off in distance
>lel might as well walk towards it
>take FIVE days to get there
>ran into nobody in a very popular sand dune recreation area
>somehow cross a major highway to get into Mexico

Their story is bullshit. They were trying to get into Mexico with their gofundme money and shit went sideways. The pin on this photo is where they started.

I'm moving to Los Angeles this winter for a job, from small town Appalachia. Is there anywhere to go /out/ relatively near the city that won't have a million people on the weekends?

I enjoy birding, plant ID, hiking, camping, etc, and I'm kinda scared that my /out/ days will be over...please reassure me...

I found myself in the same situation a few years back. There are a ton of cool places that are utterly ruined by folks from LA. It got to the point where I would wait until the weather was shitty and then go out. It kept all the riff raff away.

Big Bear, Johnson Valley, Joshua Tree, Cox Truck Trail / Hot Springs all all good example. Shit, you can even find stuff in the Cajon Pass.

http://www.bikecollectives.org/wiki/index.php?title=Community_Bicycle_Organizations#Ohio

When I was poor and getting into cycling, I went to the local bike co-op with a solid frame I bought off Craigslist. The folks there held my hand through rebuilding the thing, let me take parts off the junk bikes there for free, didn't charge me shit. Paid $65 for that frame that I still ride today.

This won't work if you're a pussy. I had to deal with a lot of meth-addled bums, crustpunks, "travellers", and quite a few insane people. If you have the balls, this is a great way to gain some knowledge you'll need as a bike owner anyway.

I mean don't get me wrong, im not rich or anything, but If I am going to buy a bike I am going to buy the right one. I've had my fair share of frankenbikes i've put together before, as a kid, now I am just looking for something that won't strain me so much.

Went out for a nice little hike the other day and came back with a rash on my whole neck, face, belly, and right arm. Its been 3 days and im on corticosteroids with no real relief yet.

How can I go and do longer hikes, camping, all that jazz and not get major allergic reactions to every tree and plant under the sun? I was wearing boots, jeans, and a sweatshirt. Are gloves essential?

don't roll around in poisonous plants. and wear pants, long sleeves, and even gloves if you are afraid.

mosquitos and biting flies are a far more serious irritant imo than poison oak.
